WAIT a tornado was actuly near decatur! WTF i didnt even know that! i livei n southeast in decatur and i cant beleive that happened i knew it went over the tennesee bridge over the water some how xD but SRSLY??!!
I was at this gas station multiple times between storms. If this was when the tornado was crossing Hwy 20 you were wayyy to close. I was at this gas station while the EF5 was heading towards the area and I wasn't even about to stay near that station.
Are you talking about the EF5 that went through Hackelberg and Phil Campbell as well? If so, then this was a different storm. I think this one wound up producing an EF1 near Madison (or the storm that came in directly behind it)
No Radio on in the car to even find out that they were under a tornado warning. The roof of the BP station could have blown down on them..Idiots should have gone inside. Duh!
We knew what warnings were issued. We have radar software with up-to-date warning displays and warning texts (and if you read the description, it even says this is a tornado warned storm) So while we knew what we were getting into, it wasn't the smartest thing to do getting that close to the hook of the storm. And considering the wind direction, the top part of the awning (if it was blown off) would have gone straight in front of us.
This is not a misleading title. This is only 3 minutes out of a 5 hour chase. We were chasing this storm when we got into the core and decided to pull over.
