Fantastic footage. I was luckily trained by Rod + Steve during the last year the Odeon was open. I stayed until it closed, and helped remove some of the projection equipment. I transfered up to Odeon Harrogate, and now work as a projectionist at The Kinema In The Woods in Lincolnshire. It was a truly great place to work :-)
A few months ago i drove my range rover through the remains of the entrance/foyer to do a deal with the scrap man as there was nowere to park, inside it is like a aircraft hangar, no walls ...nothing, i think the current owners still have to pay rates on it...thats progress....i hate that word lol.
yeah i know what you mean about the rectifier, the mag heads were left on and were fully operational as far as i know?,
John (SPUD) Taylor tried to keep things as they were as much as possible, he was a great fan of 70mm and taught me alot about it, an old carbon burning dog just like me, he got my 70mm outfit running for me when i had my own home cinema, ive still got a 70mm mag preamp in my loft...memories...AHHHHG.
The processor is a CP65 with the sub bass extender card, and custom automation, it also has the mag cards, i used to have one the same, i used the mag inputs for dvd presentation, i ran my shows with a westrex 5000, when set-up properly it was excelent. the sub bass was out of this world.
Oh the Dolby CP is like hardcore to me I just like Dolby didnt get a good look at the front. Is it a CP50 55 or 65 I know its not a CP45. Oh is an automation system, wow look at the size of it that no moon its automation system.
Looks like the automation is getting a maintenance check over I see an oscilloscope! LOL 2m37s I see you! So this is where projectionists now hang out! The Bog coming to cinema soon in ((sense-a-smell)) LOL I see the Dolby stereo add on the wall next to the rack. Now what is this at 3m10s never seen one of those before is it an 8 track tape player? LOL Damn that rectifier is buzzing! Ever used ear plugs in booth because the SPL db level is LOUD! 4m0s is that is what is buzzing?
Hi steve, Rod arranged to have the cinamation unit removed to hull, in storage i think, this unit was in fact worn-out, alot of the cams were rounded off, thats why you see Spud Taylor nursing it for a show start, the cover was removed in the shot, and the cheif engineer, and a few others were trying to work out how to disconnect it, the noise you hear was the new rectifier that was installed, i would not have been happy with all that racket, but it seems no one cared.
New Irem's dont sound like, I expect it got knocked carring up the stairs and the Transformer Coils were loose - A screw driver and tuning works wonders.
Interesting the Mag Heads were still on the V8 in screen One, most Odeon's had those removed some years ago.
Thanks for posting more of the video, I hope the Cinemation control unit went to a good home. I am not sure what happened to the Cinemation control unit at the Odeon Blackpool which was the same as Nottingham's. I believe that Steve in the box at Nottingham still works for Odeon.

Why did the Odeon close? I kept going there when the Warner place opened, because it was better AND cheaper. It seemed to be still doing well.

What is that trailer playing at 0:40, I recognise that?
Its a real shame to see this cinema go- shame on the Odeon for abandoning their art deco roots.
