SNES Everything was super back then. I guess they said fuck it Super Mario worked so lets just turn everything super for the super nintendo. Even though some those should have been called Super Bullshit (Super Noahs Ark) or Super Waste of My Fucking Time (Super James Pond).
I just recently found this game in my garage again...It just brought me back to the times I use to play it when I was like 7-8 years old with my friend,we would always get farther and farther in the game but I think the farthest we got was the train?Well we don't hang out that much anymore because we live so far away and like to do different things now,but it still brings me back, with that in mind I'm going to beat this game with my friends or by myself,I'm gunna go kick some ass.
I never beat this game. I dont think we could gain extra health. Anyway this game really brings me back. This game was awesome. Just wonder if they rereleased or will rerelease the original game.
This brings me back to summers spent on the reservation with my Grandmother in rural NC. Me and my cousin would play through Super Double Dragon, Contra 3, Mortal Kombat 2 and Street Fighter 2 countless times. We had nicknames for all the characters, based on the area we grew up in. Just like country boys, lol. Ah, good times.
You just punch or kick the boomerang to knock it down so you can use it again. I never found a problem with the game and the music is high quality for any video game :D
This game was awesome, but really hard. The attacks you could do didn't do much damage, at all. The rapid face kick or punch should have been able to knock down enemies a little easier.
Classic n a half, Missed it highly, so i brought a snes and this game on ebay not long ago and still a brilliant game, just a shame it is so basic in move wize
Good news for all Double Dragon fans they are currently remaking Double Dragon 2 The Revenge for XBOX Live. This time it's called Double Dragon 2 Wander of the Dragons.
From what I understand, they were supposed to put a lot more into this game, but due to time and budget constraints, this is what we got, not that I'm disappointed.
@LetsPlayWithKyle1 Tough one.....The original Double Dragon in the arcade was awesome, I used to love it as a kid when I was so small I had to stand up on my toes to play it! But when it came to consoles it never seemed quite the same, the arcade was just better, the hits seemed more brutal, but still I loved it anyway. Double Dragon 1 was the best Dragon, but Streets of Rage 2 may just be the best platform beat em up of all time, and definately the best console beat em up. In my eyes anyway
@gunswordfist I have to agree 110%!!! Me & one of my childhood friends of 20+ years played this game a couple months back, & it was like playing it for the first time all over again! I still have not seen, to this day, a side scrolling beat-em-up that matches the controls & move list on this game. Clearly ahead of its time.
I rented this one weekend back when I was in my teens! I liked DD 2 on Nes for some reason better than this, though. Not to cause any arguments on here...
This was the best one in the series. It had the best move set and the best controls. Loved the block button and being able to counter with that "Van Damme" style multi-kick. The only things missing were the head-butt from part 1 and the ability to punt kick enemies into orbit from part 2. Was Abobo in this game too? I can't remember.
The Best Beat em up ever, I loved this game Just recently brought a snes again as i thought that was one of my pre loved consoles and boy am i getting this game again soon, wish they made double dragon on ps3 or xbox 360 updated one with loads more moves and a co op campaign with a mate, be the don of all games.
no matter how old I get and how much time passes since I played this for the first time back in the 90's, I'll never forget this levels music. "dun dun dun dun, dun dun dun dun..."
I'd rather pay 50 for this than some of the shit thats out today, i wish gaming wasn't the cool thing to do anymore, might get some decent games then, not the same bullshit
this game blows as hard as anything can blow. you can punch an enemy and instead of him getting stunned he just starts a combo on you. of course every hit YOU take is a stun. and the blocking is rediculous in the later stages. enemies have jobs. one in front and one behind you. the one in front is charged with blocking your every hit so the guy behind you can rape you up the ass. and every single guy takes sooooooooo long to kill. with so many guys to beat they need less health. game blows.
this game rules so hard. is this the euro version btw? it sounds different in pitch than the game I'm used to hearing, also guys seem to die pretty fast.
Wow this takes me back. I would love to have a chance to play this game again! Co-op is freaking awesome! Bodies flying everywhere, tons of kung fu weapons and acrobatics. Can't go wrong with this game.
Double Dragon II is my favorite, what an incredible game for the NES, but I liked all of the DD beat 'em ups. I wasn't a huge fan of this one when it came out, mostly because the graphics lagged behind brawlers like Final Fight and because it was already the 4th game in the series, I guess I was a little tired of it. It was also on the easy side but now that I play all these years later, I realize that it did have one hell of a fighting system for it's time and is an awesome game.
@AustrianFilmGeek I played this game all the time as a kid, and its funny I didn't realize how stupid that actually is. The guy has enough skill to through the Boomerang at an enemy but he can't catch it when it circles back to him. Instead he just stands their and lets it hit him in the face, knocking him on his ass. He must be retarded or something. Think about it, who goes to battle with a Boomerang in the fist place?!?!? I mean it's a Boomerang for Christ sake!! NERF makes those!!!
@piratesephiroth Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion but this game far excells the original and advance. It basically was an innovation from the orignal which seemed one dimensional due to it being designed to eat quarters and this oen that explores martial arts in full depth and creativity, I think classics deserves to be imortalized but you can't put down a great game like this that actually does well on improving from the orignal, most game companies can't do even that these days.
100% wrong, I can beat this game without dying ONCE, the controls are near perfect, the graphics are great for its time and the weapons are generally well balanced. the game typically takes away the super powered weapons rapidly (most notably nunchucks, they last for about a screen or two before they're gone due to scene changes). the game forces you to think quickly on your toes AND use your memory in the heat of battle to learn and recall where sub bosses and knife tossers will come in.
compared to final fight, streets of rage, or any other beat em up really, this game is miles beyond in terms of actual player skill required to take the challenge on. every other beat em up boils down to a quarter eating single attack button mash fest with little to no technique required, save for basic positioning and range moderation. this game excels far beyond every other beat em up I've played in all regards.
This is one of the best in the double dragon series if not the best. is it my imagination or do some enemies on this look like they were copied form "The Last Dragon"? Oh btw, where did you find this? I want it.
Ya know, I had to see this again, and I am going to pull this out and record myself playing this very game..lol. Then I am going to hope YouTube do not YANK my audio track ;] .
@nicomell1 he means da guy in da suit is van damme and terminator is da big guy with da glasses in mission 6 in da jungle lol da bosses in this game are funny
@reyfuego360 Yea...I understand that. I was taking his words literally...I played the game before and beat it and I didn't remember any of those two characters. But what he had MEANT to say was that there are 2 characters that LOOKED like Van-Damme and Arnold Swartz/Terminator...I remember now... lol
This classic of a game was a hard game, but it was worth it. So much ass whooping integrated into one game. I like how they add more enemies for the 2 player mode. That just means that there will be even more ownage!!!! I love this game.
things I didn't like about this game (or Return of DD, which I own, the more complete version, only missing the ending text): no vs. mode, small characters, and you can't pick up the swords. for a long time it was one of my least favorite of the official series, but it's grown on me, to the point where I'd play this over any version of DD3
Good lord, this brings back memories. I remember when I was like 6 and I would play this with my dad like every day. I really wanna play this again now that I'm actually good at games. :)
I wish I knew how many countless fucking hours my cousin and I spent playing this game. We had it down to a science where we knew exactly what to do. I'd kill to have some of those nights back.
I just counted the floors while using the elevator. its about 100 i guess. and how is it possible that the elevators are sometimes faster and then slower???? :-)
@moneystacka86 sometimes, but I often have just the opposite experience... too many "open ended" games with little real purpose other than messing around... or games where a button press triggers a tone of scripted stuff. I guess in terms of being longer or having more buttons, that's true. but fighting games were always simple and are best when that's what they are (not throwing in stupid puzzles or other distractions)
this wuz the best double dragon ever made i remember when i wuz a kid i used 2 finsh the game everyday this game is fucking fun 2 bad my snes doesn't work

@shoNuuff yeah, the idea of putting the different weapons and block is cool, but it was very poorly executed.
You can simply compare it with older games, like Final Fight or Bare Knuckles/Streets of Rage.

@dabos90 What are you talking about??? Van Damme? Terminator? Where are they in the game?
nicomell1 1 year ago
@nicomell1 Van Damme is on mission 1, 5:30 into the video. Terminator is on the jungle level, you fight him on the bridge.
dabos90 1 year ago
@nicomell1 he means da guy in da suit is van damme and terminator is da big guy with da glasses in mission 6 in da jungle lol da bosses in this game are funny
reyfuego360 1 year ago
@reyfuego360 Yea...I understand that. I was taking his words literally...I played the game before and beat it and I didn't remember any of those two characters. But what he had MEANT to say was that there are 2 characters that LOOKED like Van-Damme and Arnold Swartz/Terminator...I remember now... lol

This classic of a game was a hard game, but it was worth it. So much ass whooping integrated into one game. I like how they add more enemies for the 2 player mode. That just means that there will be even more ownage!!!! I love this game.

Wow, When I was a kid, I just spammed kick and I beat the whole game. Didn't understand english at the time either. lol. Good times.

things I didn't like about this game (or Return of DD, which I own, the more complete version, only missing the ending text): no vs. mode, small characters, and you can't pick up the swords. for a long time it was one of my least favorite of the official series, but it's grown on me, to the point where I'd play this over any version of DD3

I'd kill to have some of those nights back.

this game kicks butt it reminds of me of streets of rage for the genesis.
The rivalry of the NES & SEGA Master System, SNES, SEGA Mega Drive (GENESIS), Turbo Graphics 16, and NEO GEO is like the Playstation vs XBOX

@Superapeaholic i feel you, games now are to complicated lol
moneystacka86 1 year ago
@moneystacka86 sometimes, but I often have just the opposite experience... too many "open ended" games with little real purpose other than messing around... or games where a button press triggers a tone of scripted stuff. I guess in terms of being longer or having more buttons, that's true. but fighting games were always simple and are best when that's what they are (not throwing in stupid puzzles or other distractions)

@Superapeaholic yeah on virtual console at least or made directly for wii 360 ps3 in 3d

I wonder if Wiiware is going to get any more DD releases?
I know they have the original DD, but I'm really hoping for some of the later titles.
