  • Al is a virtuoso when he teaches he expects you to be of a sufficiently high level, if you think he's a bad teacher you are clearly not at that level.

  • he's not a horrible teacher - he's NEVER going to radically slow his stuff down for 'beginners.' like or not, he presumes you have not just a certain knowledge but a certain ability. he is not the kind of guy that would say 'anyone' can play guitar.

  • @caesarcerf

His music just isn't for beginners. If he was going to explain it to beginners, these videos would probably be hours long.

  • anybody got the book to this?

  • i like how every note takes so much more effort than on an electric, makes me stop complaining about action/tension and just get on with it

  • Brillian technician: strong and efective licks; irreprehensible speed and percussion; logic combinations of scales and arpeggios; high graded knowledge of rythm and percussion; etc.. Just for these, Al di Meola has all my respect, as a guitar lover in general and an amateur guitarist. He is an inspiration for all of us.

    Cheers from Portugal.

  • He reminds me of Russel Crowe lol xD

What genre would you call this type of music/improve?

  • @RyanHigaftw latin jazz fusion or whatever.

  • He reminds me of Russel Crowe lol xD

  • nice hairline!

  • amzing hair cut !

  • What's up with the sound? Gotta crank the shit out of it?

  • @dannyhood66

    Welcome to youtube, holmes.

  • Great guitarist. Horrible teacher.

  • @guitarcapo Totally.

  • and you are.........?

  • nice ideas

  • does this guy age?dude looks the same in all his vids

the tone of that guitar is just magical but nothing can beat his PRS prism sig

  • @metalheadblues I was thinking the same thing? Must have sold his soul or something?? The guy is a major badass.

  • @joesl8 yes man, his technique of pick is perfect, perfect ¡¡the first king of alternate picking

  • @ChrissyChiChi So, he reminds you of your Daddy, eh? ;)

  • @313kafka He reminds me more of gary glitter to be honest....

  • @ChrissyChiChi Harsh!

  • @Modes9 But oh so true.

  • yeah, who was disrespecting al? Are you serious? Name 5 other guys that can play this clean and smooth, with that much soul and knowledge as he does?

  • Eric Clapton and Steven Seagal had a child: Al di Meola.

  • @ChrissyChiChi LOL only 80's and 90's jazz musicians.

  • Lots of people dis Al, but they can't play like him. Al rocks and can improv like none other!!!

  • God, I love that REVERBBBBBBBB! Wonderfully pleasant tone!

  • nice dick

  • What's with the crotch shot man?

  • Comment removed

  • @Crazyflew I agree. I don't want to see his crotch either, but apparently the guy who shot this determined this view (in all its glory, lol) to be the best one for seeing what his fretting hand is doing. Just my opinion here, but I think they could've raised the camera about 3 inches and we'd all be spared of this aberration. lol again!

  • Al di Meola would own chuck norris, scalp him, then use his hair as guitar strings

    RTF forever

  • Chuck Norris plays guitars without touching the strings

  • Hell anyone can play a guitar without touching the strings! Pick open strings with a pick!...

  • @TurkiyeCumhurbaskani

John Petrucci can play guitar with his dick and without a guitar LOL

  • Da'dario uses Chuck Norris' ass hair to make acoustic and electric guitar strings and anything leftover is used to make suspension bridges for San Francisco :))

  • something like that .. LMAO !!

sure Al .. cause we can all do that

one of my guitar GODS yes ..

but AL is a horrible teacher.

  • i would't say 'horrible', but like Yngwie he certainly isn't detailed and patient enough..like say, paul gilbert or john petrucci, who are GREAT teachers

  • @galarius i agree, al is just a great player.

  • This guy is truly a great player....He must have spent countless hrs. listening to DJANGO.............KEEPON STRUMMIN>>>> DALLAS

  • I can't imagine why you would say that because i've never heard anything quite like him.

  • mm batio No, mal musico

podrias poner a frank gambale?, metheny también no

  • I'll recommend Steve Morse.

  • steve morse recommends Al Di Meola.

  • Hey, I'm just curious. I want to expand my horizons a little.

Can anyone, in their own opinion, name any guitarists that can outplay Al Di Meola?

  • hmm....i cant think of anyone that can outplay him, but maybe tie with him or rival him would be (in my opinion) Alex Skolnick (of Testament), Frank Gambale, Marty Friedman (With Megadeth and solo) , Paul gilbert and Shawn Lane.

  • Al being one of the best, it's hard to beat him. But some that can keep up would be the one's that "oompaloompa" named, but I could also throw in John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Allan Holdsworth, Michael Romeo, Steve Lukather,....hell, there are quite a few. If you want to add blazing speed, you could go with Rusty Cooley, M.A.B, Shawn Lane. "Being better" is a very subjective term that is different among the people you ask.

  • I know what you mean man. I'm asking for people who Al might turn to for instruction.

Like... obscure jazz, fusion, or classical virtuosos.

Thanks for the names though. :)

  • Not a problem at all. That's great that you are getting into some of the more "obscure" guitarists instead of the BIG NAMED one's. I have a subscription to Guitar World & Guitar Player, and while GW has a lot of info & interviews with the more "popular" or "known" guitarists, GP writes about a hell of a lot of guitarists that I have never heard of but are pretty amazing. That's another way to find "hidden gems." Either way, good luck with your endeavors whether playing or appreciating the music.

  • id say paco de lucia

  • I know he really likes Chick Corea but instruction? Al is a "top of the mountain" player He might look to composers for ideas to expand his own ideas but I don't think he would for instruction, you know what I mean?

  • this guy was tearing it up when guthrie was in his dad's balls. my friend ... never disrespect Al.

    but guthrie is great

  • I think you should've responded to the guy who mentioned michael angelo batio instead!

  • huh ? batio is only a speed monster

  • @joeylodes sounds like a line from the Sopranos...lol

  • alan holdswort, paco de lucia, john mc laughlin, michael angelo batio

  • I don't see how, since Al's technique is flawless, and he seems able to play anything he wishes ...Wait a minute, how about that guy from the "Crossroads" film, Eugene Martone; didn't he win that epic guitar duel at the end, making Martone the best of the best? ...Oh, I forgot, that was fiction, not a documentary.

  • ...But seriously, most any dedicated player would love to have Al's overall abilities, so I don't think you're missing anything by learning his methods.

  • It just blows my mind to hear how clean his picking is both on electric and acoustic. Everyone knows about his acoustic brilliance but even on his electric songs he's has no distortion to speak of and, thus, has nowhere to hide flaws. And it's still crystal freaking clear. Unbelievable.

  • I've always hated Di Meola's album covers. They look like he's trying to sell you a cheap Winnebago on the corner of main rather than what might be the greatest guitar work ever recorded.

  • this guy is a genius on guitar but... is it just me or dose he look like a cheap Bob Saget?

  • I feel bad for saying it because you got like 4 thumbs down on it but yes. O:

  • It's true though! hes an amazing guitarist, but if you compare the 2. he dose look like Saget!

  • Yeah I know! Hahaha

  • thank you for posting!

  • Do you think he was iinfluenced by Django

  • I asked him this specific question back in 2003 when he did a guitar clinic in the Chicagoland area Guitar Center. He actually said that he "hated" the whole gypsy jazz movement since it was very rhythmically "straight" with a repetitive, non-syncopated pattern. He also made a parody of it by playing a small segment with his rhythm section which included Gumbi Ortiz

  • I guess he is way cooler than Django

  • No one will ever be cooler or a better guitarist than Django

  • Dunno about better, but definitely not cooler. That guy was slick!

  • Not really...but John Mclaughlin was truly influenced by that scene...and was greatly influenced by the fiddler Stephane Grappelli

  • Al Di not a great acoustic player?Thee words"Cielo e Terra"!!Look it up!Buy it!Not a great acoustic player!My Eye!!

  • The Flatpicking Pretender ideed..........

  • nah...acoustic is way harder since you gotta press harder on frets...and thats the base of guitar playing...

  • have you ever played an ovation? its incredible easy to play while it still sounds full, "its an acoustic guitar for the electric player"

  • lol - what are you 15? Sounds like another genius teen.

  • If you're refering to gebass6, I'm 49.I was listening to Al Dimeola back in the late 70's.

  • No, I was referring to gre1990 - his comment is juvenile and ignorant enough to suggest he is either very daft or very young - probably both.

  • why dont you try to reply y comment itslef, insted of guessing my age? :)

  • its hilarious... i started off with a high action acoustic, and i hated even touching an electric cause the strings gave so much and there was no stability... then i bought an ovation, got really good on it, and then a year later i picked up an electric guitar and it felt natural

  • Sounds like you could teach Tommy Emmanuel a trick or two.

  • You can do all of that on Acoustic.

Neither is harder than each other, but are harder in certain areas.

  • vbogdan22, thats just not true. simple fact ^^

  • no just his typical douche hairdoo

  • I have this guys video but the only problem is....I don't have a vcr!

  • could you please send me this video? Im in africa and am aspiring guitarist and I need more time with the video at home.

  • Try looking for it on google video and download it from there

theres a few videos of him on there but im sure if this one is
