  • im not satisfied....thats one of the clocest if seen but your still missing a tom beat in there....keep it up bud...your almost there

  • @chillybo007 Yep...realized that myself after viewing back at the video and went "Damn." Oh well...takes too long to put together a vid like this and we were not going to go back and fix it all just for one little tom beat. The most important part of the beat is the Hi-hat trick and the snare work...so we were happy enough. Thanks for commenting. BzB ;-)

  • i have the same shirt as your son....but I like your shirt even more!

oh....and nice playing...this was one of the first 'classic' riffs I learned

  • i ♥ hot moms

  • This is what happens when average joe drummer from po dunk gets a video camera and thinks he can play worth a crap. Dude, do a search and see all the baddass teachers on youtube then go back to your job at safeway.

However, your kid shows potential. Don't ruin him - get him lessons from a good drummer.

  • You're playing it wrong. I suggest you watch Steve Gadd's video where he breaks it down. Your version is close but not exactly right. The lead in (on the &-ah of 4) is two doubles not a double and single. There a tom strike on beat 3 of the first measure (with the last bass hit).

  • Couldn't be better explained ! :)

  • This guy in the video doesn't care AT ALL about feel. The way he plays this feels NOTHING like the Gadd beat. God, I hate this impersonal mechanical drumming.

  • thank you man!!

  • OMG I love your kid!!!

  • I will pass along your complements. BzB :-)

  • @bazybeats

are you self taught or did you have a teacher?

  • awesome shirt

  • it's great that you're teaching such a FINE piece of work.

  • Thanks...BzB :-)

  • Yo thanks alot for the post man. All other videos of this song just play it really fast to show off that that know it, and don't break it down and teach it like you did. Thanks again for the video.

  • hahahahahahaha first thing i noticed was the shirt

  • What was the second thing you noticed? BzB :-)

  • yo BzB i like what your doin but just some advice when you show us how to play beats play them with the music too cuz just beats sound odd all alone try doin sortaof a cover tutorial first play the beat with the song too then teach it...to see what a cover sounds like look for cobus potgirter on youtube

  • Ok..I will keep that in mind. Thanks...BzB :-)

  • do u know whats said that that kid is better than 95% of rock drummers today

  • Where are they saying that? Tell me more. BzB :-)

  • lol i just said it cuz he is

  • I will pass that along to him...thanks for the comment. BzB :-)

  • well impressed with the lesson, i have put it to practice and got ing in 30-40 mins. I am at present solidifying the beat, and as soon as i got a camera will send you a video of myself. Thks man, the camera angle is better from you for some one else trying to watch. Wondered if you could do bonham shuffle new video as the one on u tube is out of cinque and cant learn from it. Bazybeats is my other drum teacher, thks again. Gordondrummer

  • Thanks for the great comment. I am considering how to do that Bonham vid and get it the way everyone will like it. I know it is out of synch right now...but when I do it again I want to try to get it a little more correct. Again...I thank you for the wonderful comment. BzB :-)

  • Been drumming for a long time...cool instruction. Oh, and the shirt is cool too!!

  • Just started drumming (after not touching a snare for years) and I'll try this rhytme out with your instructions playing and check your other videos and maybe pick up a thing or two. So thank you very much! Nice videos to look at, you explain it well.

  • Cool...thanks for the feedback.

    BzB :-)

  • bad computers are one thing .... bad shirts are inexcusable .... i love hot moms ? .... what the fuck dude

  • neva heared of a MILF?

  • of course i have heard of a MILF but it is still a tacky shirt to wear

  • Fuck you sweetfly66 that shirts fuckin awsome

  • v kits sound like shit.

  • Superb!

  • Thank You...BzB :-)

  • I love the shirt

  • very well explained and demonstrated. nice control. excellent.

  • Thanks so much for taking time to write. I appreciate the comment. BzB :-)

  • no leg, floor tom with leg on 3

  • those are power threes. just saying

  • Comment removed

  • nice t shirt......

  • Hahaha...yea...I thought it added a bit of humor. BzB :-)

  • np :P

  • awsome vid :) nice shirt too ;p

  • Thanks...BzB :-)

  • Cool vid. not my thing but u got the disciplinary and theory to support your shit. legendary stuff man. keep it up. and the little fula's gonna rock

  • Thanks so much for taking time to comment. BzB :-)

  • Thats a good video, very clear. However if you watch the 'Gadd's 50 ways video', you'll see and hear that he hits a floor tom on the last note of the groove. Watch out for it, not sure if you've covered that part. Very helpful video though.

  • Thanks...yea...we were aware of the other tom strike...but the vid was already in the can and ready for export when we realized. BzB :-)

  • Americans are so funny...great lesson though, Bazybeats, thanx.

  • That is funny...I used to live in Germany. Thanks for the interesting complements. BzB :-)

  • You lived in civilization Germany with other Germans, or you lived on an American base with other Americans in Germany?

  • Well...it is kinda half and half. I lived on a Remote installation on the top of a hill with 89 other American families. But we were a 35 minute drive away from the nearest base. I had friends in the nearby town of Trier. I met them while a bunch of us were playing in the woods one day. It was really cool. They taught me a bit of their language and I taught them some of mine. We visited each others homes and had a great time even though we did not really unserstand half of what was said.

  • Hey man , nice job

Thanks for making this easier to learn , very cool beat . my friends wanted to jam this tune. was tough in the beggining cuase its not a normall move for me to play hh with my left but you explainded it well and one I got the feel it was easy...very cool ...Thanks again.

  • Thanks for letting me know it was good for you bro. BzB :-)

  • I have not watched this vid in so long, I dont honestly remember. I am answering a ton of mail right now or I would review the vid and let you know. If I think about it later I will come back and check it out...but I cant make any promisses. BzB :-)

  • i like hot moms lol nice job

  • u know anywhere i can get a decent stave tab of 50ways

  • Nope...on that one...I have no idea. Sorry. I dont think I would want to see it anyway...It would probably just contradict me anyway. BzB :-)

  • Bazy rules!!!

  • Thanks man. BzB :-)

  • Thank you,Bazy! P.S. I think your son is already a great drummer and should be proud on his dad. Anyway, thanks once again for this very analytic and useful videos! Cheers!

  • youre kids catchin u upbazy! lol

  • As long as he keeps practicing, he will leave me behind in the next few years or so. BzB ;-)

  • your linear skills are pretty good, but maybe its time to start practicing on the kick a little more. :)

  • Funny...BzB :-)

  • Just gotta ask, does that kid want to play drums becase he loves drumming, or because your a drummer and its juswt easier for him to play drums? you should throw a guitar at him and see what happens eh?

  • That is funny...ya..he does not look too into it does he...It was mostly nerves. It was his first time on video and it had him a bit shook...that is his way of showing stress. He wanted me to assure everyone that he does love his drums...he is also playing keyboards and writing music with his computer. He may very well pick up some guitar at some point too...who knows. BzB :-)

  • Hi. I watched a few other vids and yours.

I'm a guitarist for 40 years and a drummer for 38. This seems to be the holy grail of drum figures here on the tube. (other than all of Bonham's, and a couple of Porcaro's) :) Question I have after watching you, is do you think it affects the overall feel with the music if you learn & execute it as a linear sequence of events, rather than learn & commit to the separate components (hi hat & bass drum separately 1st.) -been learning this from Gadd vid.

  • I think it all depends on the person learning. There are many styles and modalities of learning, just as there are many methods of teaching. My approach may not work for some and may be perfect for others...but it is my favorite way to teach. BzB :-)

  • Please stop cover this song. This is the best drum song ever. Everyone I have seen have corrupted it.

  • I got another question for you that concerns another one of my favorite drummers , the late , great Dennis wilson of The Beach Boys . Do you think that the beat that was put down to the songs that his brother Brian wrote for the band a little ahead for it's time ?

  • Ya know...I have never taken time out to really study his work...Now that you have said this I will have to do that. I will get back to you on it. BzB :-)

  • BzB , It took me about four months to finally get the beat down by studying your video carefully . I normally play keyboards in my friends' band but when we do "50 Ways" , he tells our regular drummer to take a break and puts me up on them . The tempo is pretty fast so by the time we are done with this tune , I'm exhausted ! The floor toms take a lot of stress off my hands !

  • Thats a cool story...Bazy trained keyboard player kicks drummer off drums and jams a Gadd beat...I love it. Thanks for the sharing...BzB :-)

  • I think that this bazybeats juniour should have more attitude when he is playin.

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha is kid looks so confused.

  • Maybe...but he plays the beat...can you? BzB :-)

  • yeah.

  • Great video, I learnt this groove just from your lesson, good teaching Bazy, thanks.

  • Please do sum covers maybe simple plan and do a vid showing linear beats :):):)

  • Another great vid bazy how long has BazyBeats jnr being playing for ??? :)

  • He has been playing for about 8 years now. Thanks for the comment. BzB :-)

  • Thanks for the analysis, I do however disagree eith the snare fill where you say it is

RRLL R L RRLL R L. Listening to Gadd it seems to me it is RRLL R L only...i.e. not repeated. Just a thought.

  • dude i like your vids ando your way to drum and im not gonna ask this question to mock you or anithing but... where you picking your nose at 0:21? just asking not making of you dont get mad at me

  • Actually, I had an itch on the side of my nose...interesting observation though...you are the first person to ever comment on it.

    BzB :-)

  • will do bazy maybe it could be your next vid..you are gona have to wait for crimbo tho...ano its killing me to..rock on

  • another great vid bazy just thout i wud drop u a comment sayin ive just got myself a drum kit on order {alesis dm5 pro kit} lookin foward to learning....rock on bazy

  • Thanks bro...I would like a full report on how those drums work out. I have people asking me about those drums quite a bit. BzB :-)

  • Its never too late to drum. Go for it. BzB :-)

  • haha at the beggining bbjuniors like: hurry up dad i wanna play halo!!

  • Ya...he does sorta look that way doesnt he? :-) BzB

  • hi bb, I'm from germany and and I don't know enough vocabulary to explain my exitment! I learned that pattern in no time and tought it my 7 and 13 years old sons. they're also exited about that groove and we listened that old fashioned song a lot after that. many greatings from germany and hope to see you soon. bye

  • Thanks for the great comment. I am very happy that I have been able to help people learn this groove. Thanks for taking the time to let me know. BzB :-)

  • This beat has driven me crazy over the years and I was able to get it in about an hour just like you said. Your'e a fantastic drummer and an excellent teacher.

    Thank you

  • Thank you for sharing that with me...I am really glad to know that the vid is helping people out there. BzB :-)

  • Best training video I've ever seen.

    Awsome Job!

  • nice shirt :)

  • hi saw this video wow I am learning from you, keep it up best regards from a geriatric brit

  • I am really impressed because you teach so well. I could follow you and I have been trying to do this for a while. With you method of explaining stick by stick, I will get it right .. Thanks a million from Ireland

  • Thanks for letting me know that I helped. BzB :-)

  • Thank you. I just started playing last month. This was very helpful.

  • Thanks for commenting...BzB :-)

  • G'day mate, and thanks for the tips. Been trying to nut it out on my own, no such luck. You made it easy for me..cheers mate

    Dave in Australia

  • Had a drum kit for about six months now but I am old enough to remember when this track first came out. It is surprisingly difficult to play for a newbie but this and others like it will help me get it down- cheers

  • thanks, there! i didn't know there were people existing who still play that song. i found a transcription in a german drum zine and just started off playing it the wrong way: arms crossed, right hand on the high hat, wondering why i didn't get the feeling of that song, so thanks also to bazybeats jr. for the performance, he's better than i am at that point! thanx

  • That was great! ive been looking for ages on how to play this song, good teaching too.

    Thanks Man!

  • Thank you! For me interest technic playing "50 ways". Good luck to Your son!

With the best wishes from the Russia.

  • hey i can play it to but your son is very ggooooddddd awesome!!!

  • PAISTE!!!!!! NICE CHOICE!

  • yeah so helpful thank you..... but i have a question ive been looking around for an electric drum kit an im a starter wich would you say is best for me?

  • Seriously, I would stay on acoustics for a while and then jump to electronic after you are very comfortable as a player. Electroinc drums can get you into a lot of bad habbits off the bat. When it is time to go electronic then look at Roland in whatever price range you are thinking about spending. Take time to research online and then go into the store to try them out for yourself. I always suggest playing the expensive ones first so you know what the top of the line souns like. BzB :-)

  • your son is even better than me ^^

    thnks that was really good

  • I will let him know you sent the complement. Thanks for watching and commenting. BzB :-)

  • A very helpful step-by-step breakdown. Thank you.

  • Thanks 13x6...BzB :-)

  • duuude ur missing the floor tom near the end of the first bar b4 the roll

  • When you play the snare at the start, it is a five stroke roll with the fifth tap being on the bass drum. (rrll-bass) You are only playing rrl-bass. I have Gadd's video and have it written.

  • Yep...I knew what you meant...Thanks again. BzB :-)

  • Yep...I had noticed that I forgot that first tom hit after the vid was cut...but hey...anyone can add that one beat in there...we are close enough on this cut. Thanks for the comment...every bit helps and some things go un-noticed until someone brings it to my attention. BzB :-)

  • Sweet. Helps a lot. This bloody groove has been haunting me for ages.

  • Glad I could help. BzB :-)

  • Hey Bazy Thanks for all your help on this groove

its a hard Groove. i'm a bit of a Gadd Freak so i've been working on it for awhile. but i could never get it. but thanks to this you and this video i finally figured it out thanks a ton!!!

  • Cool...I am glad that it got you there. That is what every day is about for me...helping turn on the lights...If I did not feel that I was helping people then there would be no use in doing all of this. BzB :-)

  • Awesome video. It helped me to learn new things.

  • I am so glad that you enjoyed the vid. That is what makes it all worth the work. BzB :-)

  • thank you for this video it really helped!

  • That is awesome to know. BzB :-)

  • why do peoples drumsticks always look so long in these videos.. what size are those. or am i just retarded

  • Nope...your not retarded...I used Regal Tip "Joey Waronker" series sticks in this vid and they are a bit longer than most sticks...just my preference. BzB :-)

  • i love hot moms!!!

  • LOL...BzB :-)

  • bur can't you doo a 10 step program or something ffrom aa newbie too aa rockstar XD but plz doo aa program from nebie tooo better XD

  • Interesting concept...I will keep that in mind for a possible serries. BzB :-)

  • thanks man that was a great lerning video you got to do more videos plz!

  • There is more on the way...thanks for the comment. BzB :-)

  • k tanks but i saw your other videos they was great and easy!!! tahnks XD

  • and finally about 25 years later, a real good explanation of this groove!

  • Thanks man...I was not sure if you had seen this vid or not. I learned it from the actual Gadd vid but I had noticed that it was hard to learn because Gadd really did not comment on how to do it, he just showed it and slowed it down. Thanks for the great comment. BzB ;-)

  • Excellent analysis and decomposition of one of (probably) one of the most amazing pattern compositions in contemporary drumming (kept me scratching my head back in the 80s!!!) Brilliant stuff BzB! Much appreciated.

  • Thank you for the wonderful comment. BzB :-)

  • Cool video dude! i am nick from Greece, i am a drummer too, and your video was very understanding and helpful! rock on!

  • Thanks Nick from Greece...Glad you dug the vid. BzB :-)

  • not about the video although very good but can you tell me do the electric drums need a amplifire.

  • Yes...they will need amplification unless you plan to just listen through headphones. BzB :-)

  • Hehe nice, I first started to play the hihat with the right hand and now im not able to play it with the left, your kit is cool, how much have you paid for it, i found it for 5499 e, thats to much for me^^, i have bought my millenium mps-200 for 319 €, and thats enough, greets Ted

  • thanks for checking out this second vid MrG...as for the kit...I paid 4,500 USD for it when I bought it around 3 years ago. It is now selling for 5,500 USD here where I am at. BzB :-)

  • okay then, by the way nice t-shirt^^

  • Dude, your kid must feel seriously lucky to have all those drum sets around the house!

  • it is quite crazy here at our house...We have several bands that practice here between me and my two sons. BzB :-)

  • A great systematic lesson.

Tbh I've always played it with no foot on the HH, just left hand, then right hand.

But this way of grooving looks cool. I'll try it next time im at the kit.

  • Yes...I have a vid more like the way that you are describing...I started out playing it that way until I caught a bunch of flack from peole here on YouTube. Then I watched the Gadd vids and put out this vid. BzB :-)

  • lol look at dad's shirt it says i <3 hot moms!

  • sorry man, this isn't quite right.. and you're playing it to hard.. listen to the original, how soft Steve plays it. you have to loosen up..

  • Excellent teacher!

  • Thanks for the complement JP...BzB :-)

  • Wow! Great teaching! You should do more vids on playing different styles!

  • Hey Tak22...I do have some more vids on my channel that show different styles...check them out. BzB :-)

  • Upload a video of your son just jamming hes pretty good

  • He has not gotten up the nerve to do it yet. I will get him to do a vid one of these days. BzB :-)

  • lol

    nice drum video anyways!

  • Cool bro...thanks for the comments. BzB :-)

  • How do you afford all those drums set you must be a good saver lol.

  • Actually FatManBatMan, I just work my butt off and spend my money on drums. BzB :-)

  • How muck did you guys buy it for..........

  • His kit was like 250 for the shells and then I spent another couple hundred on the cymbals and such. BzB :-)

  • what set does ur son have i want it

  • My Son's kit is a Groove Percussion 5 piece. He is getting a Mapex for Christmas this year. Several people have already made me offers to buy his Groove Percussion kit...I dont really think BzBJR wants me to sell it. BzB :-)

  • you are the best i am very good but not like you

  • Thanks fernando13jr...BzB :-)

  • Oh my gosh thanks man! You are a very good teacher I learned that in about an hour too only cause I have slow internet though. Wow that was very helpful. I've been listening to that tune lately and couldn't figure out what he was doing. If I would have had listen to that about 100 times to figure it out thanks man!

  • Thanks DefHarmony...I appreciate the wonderful comment and feedback. BzB :-)

  • great job man any tips for a beginning drummer starting late in life 40 something thanks your son is going to be a great drummer!!

  • Thanks for the great feedback bro....BzB :-)
