  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!

  • Wow, seven-plus minutes of absolute tedium. Maybe coke made it more interesting.

  • If anyone was waiting for Helen Reddy to "go disco" she actually did so most credibly with Ready or Not. But Make Love to Me is a barebones song designed to showcase Kelly Marie's fiery voice: as rendered by Helen it's like listening to a to-do list being read. Helen Reddy was a first-rate singer but you'd never know it from listening to some of her hits - or apparently some of her flops.

  • "Perfect Love Affair" is a lot of fun and HR sings it perfectly. It's a much better song than this one. Nonetheless, I find myself appreciating all things Reddy -- including this song, which did not give her much to work with.

  • I remember this on ITV ......Written by MikeTinsley/Peter Yellowstone released on Capital Records USA......recorded initially by Kelly Marie who spent 9 months in the Ozzie charts.....reaching No. 5

  • I remember Helen vividly in my '70s young music-listening days. When this song came out, I recall it tanked pretty fast because it was when disco was really dying out -- and this arrangement and opening was so formulaically why. It sounded like she had gone so commercial from her more earthy and gritty work earlier in the decade.

  • She was ever "eartthy" and "gritty"?

  • I didn't realize that Helen Reddy recorded this same song that Kelly Marie had recorded earlier. Thanks for sharing it.

  • I LIKE THIS SONG<<<<

  • Helen's special vulnerability in her voice, it shines through in less busy, competing orchestrations. She's better in sparser, supporting arrangements, even in uptempo songs.

  • This is the only good song Helen Reddy ever did. She should of recorded more disco. Sparser non-disco arrangements make her voice appear worse. Thank you atyg1967. Rock sucks. :)

  • Disagree. Many of her hits, so commercially successful, were non-disco. They were also nominated for Grammys. Helen even admitted in an interview that her venture to disco was a mistake.

  • This disco song is from Helen's 1979 album, Reddy, which featured the disco tunes Trying To Get To You, Perfect Love Affair, The Magic Is Still There. Also featured Let Me Be Your Woman, Minute By Minute, You're So Good, Words Are Not Enough, Sing My Heart Out....a truly great album by a truly great artist!

  • Try "Imagination", great 80's disco by Helen Reddy.

  • Boy I had fogotten this one

  • kelly marie.helen reddy,Francoise Pascal all recorded this song

  • Helen Reddy is awesome, nowadays retired though, but thanks to the internet youngsters (like me :D) can learn about this great music

  • Poor old Helen. I think that her music has dated terribly. If it hadn't been for that one iconic "I am Woman" song it would think that she'd been one of the Andrews Sisters, only more mawkishly sentimental. I have seven of her records on tape, but I find them hard to listen to now, and never in company.

  • Great track from Helen!

    Thanks!

  • I remember ML2M in May of 1979. It was on the charts for quite some time. Also the song Love you inside out by the beegees came out that time. todays music is not good compared to then.

  • Great song. Thanks for posting it Sweets

  • i have the album this is from. quite unusual to have the 12" actually on the album. was there not a 7", or single version, does anyone know.

i personally think she dabbled way too little in the rock/disco area, as she does it so well!!

  • This the 12" version as you mentioned. However, there is also a single version.. which is about 3 minutes or so in length. I prefer this version as I can't get enough of Helen Reddy :) I agree... wish she had done more Disco.

  • thanks for that info. was the 3 min. one on 7"single? sounds like you and i would like her singing the same kinda stuff. i was chuffed to find a 12" of hers, lately:IMAGINATION, as i loved the lp version. kinda monotonous cover, though, a glammed up pic of her would have been cool. do you have the video for the latter, by any chance?

    cheers.

  • Capitol Records also released a 12" disco single of Helen's song, Take What You Find.

  • THANKS for that info. never knew that. you don`t have that one, do you? i bet that will be a tough one to get a hold of...

  • Yes, I have the 12" disco copy of Take What You Find.

  • can you tell me the running time of it, and what is the B side?

    thanks!

  • Take What You Find is on both sides of the 12"

record. Running time is is 5:01, It is a promo Number SPRO-9382.

  • Yes, I have the 12" disco copy of Take What You Find.

  • I believe the video for Imagination is available for download on Helen's website, helenreddydotcom.

  • Capitol Records released Make Love to Me as a single (short version); as an album cut on Reddy album (long version); and as a 12" disco single (slightly longer than album version).

  • I love this song it was my first Helen Reddy record i ever brought. Does anyone have anther song off this album they can up load called "Perfect Love Affair"

  • Yes by The Constellation Orchestra? LOVE THAT SONG....I have the vinyl 12".

  • Discoguy79: Kelly Marie's song was called "Feels Like I'm in Love." They're two completely different songs. Kelly Marie's was released on Coast to Coast/CBS and Helen Reddy's on Capitol. Kelly's has more of a Classic Disco vibe, while this one has more of a EuroDisco flava. :-)

  • Actually, Kelly Marie did cover this song in 1981. I have a 4 song vinyl 12" that from Unidisc Records that includes it.

  • kelly marie did this also. i like kellys version better. i dont like this production.

  • I love Helen Reddy! She never got credit for this amazing disco song!
