I'm from the UK and I often think that the US Presidential campaigns are fueled by engaging people's emotions, and I think what you were saying about people voting on emotion is absolutely right. That's how Palin got so far - because if all she does is appeal to emotion, then she has a guaranteed group of supporters that will buy into that. I think it's sad that America can't seem to break its politics out of that habit of appealing to feelings and patriotism.
