Love Shawn Phillips, saw him in small venues in Detroit over 20 years ago. He still tours and his manager sends out tour dates via email. He does private shows, I love, love, love, to see him again. I have a couple CDs that still get play time. Keep hoping something draws his to Southern Florida. So cool to find these on youtube.
Shawn Phillips is truly amazing in his powerful deliverance of his music. His lyrical prowess is unbending and I had the opertunity to see him in concert on May 4th here in mpls, mn at the Guthrie theater, wow, he still has it after all these years. Get to see him again in July in St Cloud on the 30th. His DVD from the 2008 reunion concert held at the MN Zoo titled "Living Collaboration" is out, its a DVD of wonderment and awesomeness, go purchase it, you'll be very pleased indeed.........
This is a really good interesting live solo version of Casey Deiss. Fine use of the voice, dynamics / microphone and the humming trumpet (?) section is top notch.
By ditching the Jesus look he also looks younger & better than he did 30 years ago!
OMG, joelsamuel, you are the GREATEST for posting this! In 1971, our Palm Beach, Fla underground FM station, WMUM, played the first side of Second Contribution. Heehe, I recorded it on 8 track. 37 years later, I finally get to see THE MAN :)
anybody out there have a firm idea who the musician brian odger on 2nd contribution really is?personally i think it is brian auger, often refered to as auge.
barry dean is the bass player. he was along time member of the oblivion express and cowriter of many songs with auger.
i worked for auger as a sound engineer in the late 70s.
i also had the pleasure of doing a show w/shawn phillips and cosmic debris in the early 80s in tucson az. ah the stories i could tell. i was very impressed by shawn
Hi, It's Brian Odgers, Sometimes credited as Odger. He's actually my godfather and I've been trying to track him down. My dad and he were close but my dad passed away in 1976 and we lost contact with Brian and his family. Any help reaching him would be appreciated.
Wow...Shawn...you are a MAN. God Bless you. I first heard "Second Contribution" on KQIV FM 107 in 1972. I cherish the memories. I have the album on vinyl. Amazing to see Shawn Phillips NOW...after 35 years. Thank you, Shawn. Thank you JoelSamuel/uploader. Wow...Wow...WOW. Jeff Wilson, age 52. Portland, OREGON USA
Rented a 4x4 went on hliday in ever darkening Africa - only tape availablein car. Dug in old tape collection for music for the road and voila! rediscovered Shan- what a pleasure - UI - He now lives in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. THANX!!!
Has there ever been a greater song writer? I have listened to this brilliant artists stories since the early 70's, and never tire of him. His style and voice are truely unique. Thank you for posting the video's.
This is one of the great performers, all time. I visited him in Positano, in the 70's, where he was living. He imparted to me some wisdom. He started out with Johnny Winter. Winter asked him why he got so far from his musical roots. Shawn answered, "There's more to the tree than roots". I never forgot that. He's a very nice gentleman.
Two great songs for you to enjoy- The Power of a Women encore and then the Ballad of Casey Deiss- by request- your ratings are important to me and i enjoy your comments as well. Enjoy the show. joelsamuelpresents & bscactuspresents

This guy is so overrated. The ballad of Casey Deiss is so excellent on disc but sucks so bad live.
