  • I own a 66 hemi charger (survivor) and a built 440 '66 charger as well. The 440 (stroked to 493cid) puts out 1100HP, so I can tell you a 440 can be built to make power. There's no real doubt about that.

  • 440 is a wedge motor, not a hemi.

    0-60 a stock 440 and 426 are narly identical. The hemi excels beyond that point as it builds power at higher RPM, where the hemisperical chambers gain their benefit.

    The 440 is probably the better street engine, where the Hemi is the better drag engine, all things considered.

  • That's because the HEMI was optioned with aluminum heads, a large single 4 barrel, a more aggressive camshaft and overall the HEMI is just the better drag motor.

    You idiots with your brand bashing need to grow up. I'm a Ford guy, working at a Mopar shop. We built an 835HP Hemi. Jon Kaase built a 760HP 351 Cleveland. Those are the two top motors, period. Dont try to compare them because they cannot be compared to. For the record, I love Windsor motors but that's neither here nor there.

  • you're a dumb fuck, Dukes103 is right, it's more about your transmission, rear-end and suspension than it is about horsepower when reaching high top speeds. The engine gives you the RPM and Torque and gives that to the transmission, it's up to the properly tuned transmission and suspension to deliver is to the ground.

  • There's more to cars than big super chargers and turbos and blowers my friend. Tuning a car and understanding engine dynamics is what you need. By the way, I didnt at any time say that 440 was better than Hemi, I just said it wasn't impossible what he was saying.

I've owned all and love them all but I love my hemi more!

  • no! i have my gears set so i can reach speeds up to 195 mph so that and my engine is a blown 440 sixpack.

  • Well yes they do original but also they are cross bolted where the 440 isnt,the hemi also had low compression,now take the mid sixties heimis they are alot faster then the 440s with the short rams,I'm sorry the 440 is a great motor and so is the 383 but nothing beats a hemi when the hood is open

  • buddy im a top of the line drag racer i raced against a Cobra that had the same hp ur car has and guess what i still smoked him. Hp dosnt count its how fast ur car launches and mine goes from zero to sixty in 2 seconds! and i got it to top out at 225 miles an hour at the drag strip.
