Saw this film last night. Whats with all the hate guys? It wasn't to scary, although I think the little girls second drawing of the things was creepy beyond belief. Still a good film though. You don't criticise a comedy for not being scary so just, because it was more leaning towards the horror genre. Doesn't mean it was bad just because it wasn't PERFECTLY scary. Haters gonna hate.

I really did find this movie scary... until the last 10 minutes. during most of the movie you get nothing more than flashes of skeletal fur and glimpses of small shadows to accompany the haunting whispers, and it is truly scary. then towards the end when all hell starts to break loose, you are just over-saturated with the creatures and they lose their ability to scare.

i saw this movie when it premired on 8/26 and it was actually pretty good, a lot of jump scenes, but i do not see how this movie is rated R, i think a PG-13 rating would of been more suitable.

for the story line i would give it a 8/10 but for horror i give it a 6.5/10

the movie was horrible, Del Toro needs to stop the "childish fairy tale" brand of horror. The movie had nothing to do with Katie Holmes comeback to the big screen, its purely Del Toro's stories depicting children in the stories. It's not a horror movie if its labeled as PG-13. The original was bad, but this was the biggest disappointment for the horror genre. Even the acting was more terrifying than the movie, through 1-10. I give it a solid 0, Del Toro lost my fanship with this movie.

I was really disappointed with this movie. I'm a big del Toro fan and I had high hopes for FilmDistrict after Insidious was surprisingly impressive. Bailee Madison did a nice job and Katie Holmes wasn't as big of a hindrance as I thought she'd be. Weak creature design and a poor narrative greatly diminished the effectiveness of the film. I hope that FilmDistrict can redeem itself in the horror genre.

Love the show but the introductions to these are manliputed to fit unjust points. Katie Holmes has starred in two hits since her marriage with The Cruise - Batman Begins and Thank You For Smoking, the latter movie was made for just 10 million and grossed over 39 million worldwide.

As for Thank You For Smoking she had a very minor role, and the budget/box office ratio you mention is not a huge hit. Of the $39 million, the studio gets half. As for the budget, that does not include the cost of prints and advertising. Gotta look at the whole picture.

@BeyondTheTrailer As for 'Thank You For Smoking' I work in Post Production myself (Film Scanner! woop woop) and though Marketing isn't included in overall budget, film prints most definitely are and the whole picture of a film is Home Entertainment. the theatrical run of a movie is like the Billboard Singles chart - the real money is in the album / DVD-Digital NOT the Theatrical release. I love this show but I do think it selects scantly relevant factoids to back up some unfair points

Julia's Eyes (Good movie - not sure about BO) and Biutiful (?) - he was an uncredited producer on 'Mother & Child' but he was a credited 'creative consultant' on Megamind and that was a BTT hit!

I don't think the movie sucked. It's probably a bit easier to understand if you know some fairy folklore, though (like fairy rings for example [that circle of mushrooms]). Del Toro could have made some parts a little bit more clear as well. Overall it was pretty good and entertaining. 6.8/10
