I've Loved to watch Harryhaused since I saw my first Stop-Mo Film in the early 60's as a six year old. I really dug King Kong's fur moving from his fingers ruffling the fur. That mad it a little more alive. I used to get his magazine in the 70's and read them til they fell apart. Bradbury is another Giant in Sci-Fi although he says that the only Sci-Fi he ever wrote was Farenheit 451 and the rest are fantasys, Egytian style myths and fairy tales. God Bless their imaginations and artistry
I love both these guys, i just hope that one day ill be able to bring amazment and excitment to thousands of people through my animations like Ray Harryhausen, Ray Bradbury (for the story) and Willis O'Brian
The problem with CGI is it looks real now but you look back 4 years from now and it will look fake. Stopm-motion on the other hand will always stay the same looking.
Good point. The technical aspects of CGI have far outpaced the artistry. The whole appeal of stop motion, as RH himself has pointed out, is that it is obviously "not real." There is an element of fantasy about it: you know it can't be real, but there it is. And because it's not something you can re-render over and over again, all the little nits and tics of the animator's manipulation are there on screen, only adding to the personality of the animation.
These two giants are responsible for bringing me more enjoyment and wonder as a child(and as an adult) than I can ever express in words. At the risk of sounding cliche` ...they just don`t make `em like that anymore.
I met Ray when he came to our university to give a speech. What a gentleman. He spoke to you as if you were his old friend. Sadly, there were many empty seats in the auditorium that night, yet when Michael Moore came it was standing room only. Really pathetic what our schools have churned out.
Ray's work will far outlast that of the coward who stole his title.
This just tears my heart out, to think that these two giants are such good friends with Forrest J Ackerman, too, after all these years and years.... Bless 'em, Lord!
oh God, I would sooo much like to meet Ray. The man is the master of special effects. Those modern CGI effects suck!..and I belong to a younger generation.
CGI will go the way of 3D. Ray Harryhausen is first and foremost an artist, not a technician. Just because you can use a piece of software, doesn't mean you have vision. Good on you, Karloff, for recognizing that.
A true treat. These two guys have been best friends and dinosaur lovers for life. They grew old but they were successful in never having grown-up. I wish I had such an enduring friendship. Both gentlemen have had astonishing success in their chosen fields and they are heros to many of us. I envy them. Bravo.
