  • Thanks dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my teacher explained it in a REAAAALLLLLLYYYYYY complicated way.your way totally helped me understand integers!!!!!!!!!!!the whole video was very helpful and made me stop worrying that i was gunna fail my test on this!!!!!!!!!!

    thanks a billion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THNX BRO THIS HELPED WITH MY STUDYING :) ILL ACE THIS TEST CUZ OF U!

  • Thanks! This video helped alot!

  • thanks you really helped me

  • Sorry, your video was vaguely helpful, I was looking for a fresher and this absolutely confused me.

  • @cantdecidelol tell me about it

  • @JessicaB97 I think the answer to your problem :(-5)-(+5) is -10, because when you take away the + sign you have -5 and -5 which is -10, in other words, if you put 5 cats with 5 cats you have 10 cats or negative 10, or did I misunderstand something?

  • @JessicaB97 Hi Jessica. There is no rule for adding and subtracting that says a negative and a negative, or a negative and a positive, etc. That's for multiplication and division. In addition and subtraction, use the method shown in the video. First circle the numbers with the signs before those numbers. Now scribble the plus sign. You are left with 8 cats and 4 cats. That makes 12 cats altogether. There is no fighting. 12 cats is 12 negatives. Hope that helps.

  • @JessicaB97 The answer to the problem in your comment here is -10. Cross out the plus sign. Now you have -5 and another -5. That's 5 cats and 5 cats which makes 10 cats.

  • I hope tomorrow on my mAth quiz my teacher lets me do it like that haha I LOVE THIS VIDEO

  • Okay so if i hv -5 + 5 ( 5 cats nd 5 dogs) wouldnt 5 dogs chase away 5 cats nd we'd b left with 0 ? but the answer is -10 ..? please help i hv a test soon nd i got confused on my hmwk when my teacher checked it .. so im guessin the cats nd dog rule doesnt apply here? ur vids really help thanks a million ! :)

  • @JessicaB97 -5+5=0 That is the correct answer, not -10. Not sure who told you that answer, but it's wrong. The dog cat thing works with that problem. I hope that helps you my friend ; )

  • Very cool!

  • Oh my gawd! Why can't you be my math teacher?!?

  • thank you very much!! i really understand now :) but the problem was the distracting beat. It was very disturbing but i enjoyed it anyways :P

  • Very interesting. Helped me a lot. Thank you SO much ! now, i understand integers :)

  • Thanks you very much!!!

  • Dude i didnt get integers but now i understand thx

  • Thank you this really helped me understand integers better

  • OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH....YOur perpective is amazing....so simple so brilliant

  • Thanks i didnt understand integers until you explained it to me

THANKS THIS WILL HELP ME GET MY RURAL VET DEGREE:)

  • Why the distracting beat? Youtube have enough music videos.

  • @koolrahul12 Sorry. I'll try to make an epic movie on math for you next time. ; P

  • @koolrahul12 THIS WAS AN EXCELLENT TUTORIAL. WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY? WHY CRITICIZE THE ONE DOING THE WORK, AND PUTTING FORTH A GREAT EFFORT TO HELP...THIS WAS VERY HELPFUL FOR MY CHILDREN, NIECE AND NEPHEW. THOSE WHO TEACH GET FAR TO LITTLE PRAISE AND THANKS!!!!

  • Thanks studying for my sol and didnt get it thank u

  • Thank You! The first time I did this, I got an F! I didn't get it at all! And I wished that there was a trick on how to make it easier. I am more of a visual person, so it was easy because I pictured the dogs chasing the cats. In other words, THANK YOU!

  • TURN OFF THAT MUSIC

  • Thankyou! This explains it so much better!

  • thank you so much

  • Do you have to take out the plus symbol when you have 5 + 6 ? Would you take that plus sign out, or only the plus signs that represent the positivity of a certain number?

  • what if you have (+8) + (-5) + (-8)=

    ?

  • This the best video! I truly understand math now! THank you sooooooooo much!!!

  • 2-5= -3 not -7

  • @3412dolphin I think you need to pay a little closer attention. The problem in the video is +2 - (-5), not +2-5. And the answer given is +7 not -7.

  • this video rocks!!!! my son now understands!!!!!! wooopeeeeee awesome job!!!!

  • ok so now i understand this but how about multipling and dividing ?

  • Your explanation is very straightforward but what you failed to explain is why when subtracting a negative number it becomes a positive - that is where most students just memorize rather than conceptually understand!

  • negative+negative= add

    positive+negative=minuse or add?

    negative+positive=minuse or add?

    negative-negative= add

    positive-negative=minuse or add?

    negative-positive=minuseor add?

  • @fyrado check out ur book

  • thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • omg ur awesome.

  • thank u sooooooooo much 4 helping me with understanding integers :)

  • Oh I love you! Thanks a lot!!

  • nice vid :D

  • I love you

  • omg weres professor Burger when you need him?! lol jk thank you very much! this made so much more sence to me then professor Burger's method :)

  • wow! I am a homeschooler who was having a difficult teaching this to my kids. You made it so easy! Thanks a bunch!

  • thank u so much u helped me out alot!!!

  • I am so using this for my math project.

  • OMG THANK U THANK U THANK U SOOO MUCH!!!!! Now it's so much easier!! :D

  • could you take the music out please i cant pay attention

  • omg!!! thanks!!! now this is so easy !!! thank u very much !!

  • I was struggling to make my son understand subtracting integers, but thanks to this video, my son learned in 9 minutes. You Rock...thank you!!

  • You explain it in a better way for me. I FINALLY understand!

  • @SuperLucario211 It's a math lesson, not a Disney movie. ; P

  • @SuperLucario211 it's math...it's meant to be boring with an exception of this teacher and jediteacher2007. btw,if you don't like something, don't waste time making a comment.

  • @SuperLucario211 Downgrading other's work can be very insulting, and this gentleman is just trying to help others. If you don't appreciate this man's doing,

I feel very sorry for you.

  • thxs i did have a test today and i used ur method on cats and dogs and it helped!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im really hankful i found ur video

  • what if u have larger numbers like -84 + 18 = ?

  • @techdeckbro1 The greater value equals the answer. e.g( -84+18= -66) So if the negative number is greater than the positive, then the answer is a negative. same thing goes with a greater postivite.

  • @techdeckbro1 84 cats and 18 dogs. 18 dogs cancels out 18 of the cats, leaving 66 cats or negative 66. You start with small numbers and get the concept down by drawing the letters or pictures and then bypass that step when you get the method down and move on to larger numbers.

  • thanks,great video

  • my teacher sucks BUT YOU ROCK!!!!

  • man your a genious thx a million

  • sweet

  • very good video really helped my child thanks so much

  • Your video is very helpful thank you.

  • This was the absolute best way explaining how to add and subtract integers. I'm needing this for the TABE test. After watching this video, with a little bit of practice, I have mastered this method and find it explained very thorough. I wish I found this video a lot sooner, hope more videos are in the works. Thanks much Tim Bedley.

  • This makes it so easy thanks so much

  • thanks.. :DD

  • got it i can teach my child now thanx

  • its the background music!!!it's getting throo to me!!!

  • thank-you t-bed for the vid. i am so worried about ym exam later today, but at least i'll have my integers down!!

  • thank u for the enlightenment :)

  • wow this helped with my math homework i didnt quite understand

  • Thanks everybody for the kind feedback on the video. I will try to add some more concepts in the near future. Be sure to subscribe so you get notice of when they're live.

  • @tbed63 ca you teach me how to multyply integers before tuesday i have test u rock so hard ur awesome dude

  • WOW! Thanks for the Trick!

I Perfected my Math Quiz on Integers!

How about another video on Square Roots?

  • thnx for helping me, i understand it better than all that numbers, i learned it very

    thnx for helping me

    xd

  • THNX UR A REALLLY GOOD TEACHER

  • Thanks man! Really is gonna help me on my quiz.

  • READ THIS ITS WAY BETTER FOR LEARNING. YOU WILL GET IT RIGHT AWAY.when you see a question like: +9 - (-4)= see how there is 2 - next to eachother, that means its +, just forget about the + on the left, never look at it. always look at the right +/- LOOK HERE!!!. + + = + - - = + - + = - + - = - What you see up there ^ is alway on the right. its not the first part of the question like -9 + (-9) ^never look at that - look at the next + and - sooo + - = - so the question equals18
  • Thanks animallover...but that's actually how you multiply integers, not add and subtract. -9 +(-9) is actually -18, not positive 18.

  • @tbed63 haha. thats why i got the test 100%

  • @123animallover123 srry but i dont really understand any of what ur sayin but thats okay i find out how to do it

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! My son finally got it. I just wish I would have found your video sooner.

  • @fraz200 wow i am a 7th grader and i didn't knew this because i didn't be attentive in class because of my boring teacher! now i don't find it too awful to do this so good luck to your son fraz200 and everyone! This is a great math lesson for everyone and I like the concept of the cats and dogs.

  • The best educational video ever although you should make it more exciting E.G. Robber vs police or food vs people to eat it!

  • negative kitties! poor kitties

  • omg so gelpful! thx alot

  • a suggestion for you:

your hand doesn't let us see what you're writing sometimes. Specially when you teach "two negatives make a positive".

Very good video though, I showed my students.

  • I'm in college algebra and I have to do this sometimes still lol.

Thanks for this method, it unscrambles the whole thing.

  • HAHA lol I cracked myself laughing ehere the -6-3= 9 cats lol !!!HAH u r the best!

  • thanks man xD

  • k12 online schooling

  • thanks you so much :)

  • O MY GOD YOUR AWESOME!!!!

  • Thanks lacispe! I'm glad this could help you.

  • thanx much and poor cats

  • my question is that why does the negative be changed to positive wuts the reason

  • because your subtracting the oposite. the oposite of a negative would be a positive. thats a very rough answer. you might want to ask a math teacher to explain it if you don't get. i hated this part of my math clath.

  • helpuful and a good video

  • Thanks for the lesson. I liked your use of cats and dogs as positive and negative integers! CK in Texas

  • If you watch this video above all the way through, it pretty much explains it. There are no hard and fast rules for addition and subtraction the way there is for mult. and div. In Mult, pos times pos is ALWAYS pos and pos times neg is always neg and neg times neg is always pos. That just doesn't hold true for add and sub.

  • I cannot thank you enough. this is a perfect example for us right brainers lol. I never ever understood this and could never master it, you just gave me the tools THANK YOU!

  • i got question how do i found in paper 364 - 597 plz tell me i know how do to in calculitar

  • 364 is positive. 597 is negative. You have way more negatives (cats) than you have positives (dogs)...so just subtract the smaller number from the bigger. Your answer will be negative since you are really just counting how many more cats you have ; )

  • Oh comon!

why does cats have to be negative?

Cant dogs be negative and cats be positive?

    >___>

  • Thanks for all of your comments. Unfortunately your rules are incorrect. You are giving rules for multiplying positive and negative integers, not adding and subtracting.

Actually this tutorial isn't to help students understand the WHY of the math...it's more of a trick that makes it easy to remember HOW to solve the problem. It takes a lot of the memorization burden off of students who have difficulty memorizing algorithms. It's more of a mnemonic device.

  • thank you so much for your help.

i hadnt had a math class for a year and

when i came back to do algebra 1 today

i forgot everything. thank you so much,

this helped me and so did your method.

    this made it so easy.

  • tyvm!! now i understand well! u explain it so goood!

  • That's a better method than what my teacher showed me. I'm re-taking alg in college, they took away my dearest calculator. Thanks

  • nice man good job it really helpit me thank you

  • That helped thx man u r awesome(btw im in 5th grade im charliew0's son)

  • haha as childish as it was (sorry no offence) that was easier then when i learned in school. i have to take a "refresher" class and this helped alot!!!

  • You have no idea how much you saved my neck:)

Please,if you have anymore simple ways to look at order of operation problems(PEMDAS) involving negative numbers do show. I get confused by all the phrases.

    (2) (3-7) + 3 + (5-8) (6) this sort of thing. Thanks!

  • God THANK YOU HAHAhAHA!

  • Bless You. I am such a visual person and this helped me see the picture!!! Wonderful!

  • thats too easy!

its kind of sad, that this video helped anybody..

  • woooooow!

  • your truly the man i couldn't blive this was that easy , i love u and subscribed

  • thanks! i finally get intergers

  • wow tat really helped me..

  • my dog's are wimps and my cats are dead- should i wait for the cats to decompose?

  • WOOOOOO!!!

its a miracle im starting to understand it better now!

this is way better than how my teacher teaches it! :D

  • You couldnt have picked a better example for me, I love animals ^_^ This will help a lot with the simpler problems, though I may need a different technique for larger integer problems. ANyways it was helpful, thanks!

  • fantastic stuff! i will practice this! Thank you!

  • mean-30-6=24 24 becomes +24 subtracting- if numbers are just simple like this: 6-3=3 29-31=31-29=-2 (because 29 is smaller than 31 *we dnt have to change the oppsosite of the subtrahend and add it from the minued... but if its integers or there's a negative no. then i change the opposite of the subtrahend(in symbols-negative is the opposite of positive)and add it from the minued. example- 1.-30-6=- 30 + -6= -36 because 6 is positive so i changed it to negative... so negative + negative=negative
  • in adding integers if i have to add negative from positive all i have to do is subtract(because theres a negative no.) the greater no.(not the signs because we all know that positive is greater than negative)from the smaller ones and then, copy the symbol of the greater no.

    example-

    -6+30- 30 - 6 (i subtract 30 from 6 because 6 is ---- negative.) 24=+24 because 30 is much bigger than 6...(the symbol of 30 is positive.

    am i right?

  • thanks for the help!
