The patriots needed a president that was as similar as possible to Big Boss.They created a third clone which was as similar to Big Boss as possible and programmed the aging to be faster so he could become president quickly.This ended up being vital for Big Boss himself.In mgs 4 he says that the Patriots came after Solidus thinking he was Big Boss himself!

@MojowidanAK Yeah and MGS1 showed the briefing, but prior to the briefing Snake didn't know that he had any relatives (besides learning about Big Boss before he burned him down). When told of Liquid he was surprised he had a twin, he always said he had no family.

The only Snake to know of the others was Solidus because he was put in power by the Patriots. Liquid knew because of Big Boss calling him inferior and Ocelot telling him about Les Enfants Terribles.

@MickfromShik old comment. Liquid had the same hair as snake, and the same skin color(I couldn't tell much of a difference...) But he spent several yers under a desert sun and it bleached his hair and his skin. I know for a fact tha this is posible because after spending a a sumer at the city pool, my black hair had several streaks of blonde in it, for a LONG time.

Solidus is a very recent clone, much younger than Snake and Liquid. He is in exact clone, and they made him age faster, even faster than Snake. Since his an exact clone, he looks like Big Boss, and with his enhanced aging, he is almost exactly like Big Boss, in age, looks, strength....but not intelligence. -My opinion.

Solidus' accelerated aging kicked in a lot sooner than Old Snake's did. This was so he could more convincingly assume the role of president AND the mantle of Big Boss, for which he was created. Solidus was born to be a pawn, a puppet figurehead.

But he defied the Patriot's destiny for him, and fought for real freedom, real independence from the Patriot's absolute control. That's why he's my favorite MGS character.

From what I can tell, the Patriots had some very special plans in mind for Solidus. He was meant for something called the "Predecessor Program" or something like that. As clones, both Solid and Liquid Snake are flawed, but Solidus is a perfect clone of Big Boss. He was meant to carry on the image of his father, and thus give power to the legend that the founder of the Patriots had created 60 years ago.
