a great song spoiled by Richard. He was a good background vocalist in the singing department, but not worthy to be a soloist. He should have stuck to his day job as the keyboard man and producer.
What the hell was wrong with this set up?Both are out front extremely visible to the audience and cameras. They couldn't have this new and improved stage style ,they just had to take Karen off the drums and put her out front which ultimately lead to her obsession and death.IDIOTS! It is was against her liking entirely,if she only had told them to fuck off, there's nothing they could have done about it.

:O THIS VIDEO IS YOURS AND I NEVER REALISED IT UNTIL TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I SO FREAKING LOVE THIS SONG AND I ALWAYS ABSOLUTELY ALWAYS PLAY THIS VIDEO AT HOME AND SING THE SONG AT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I last listened to this in the Philippines in '72 -- and now I find it HERE ! It is truly a GEM from The Carpenters -- so much fun to see them perform it side-by-side !
Thank you sooooo much......honestly, this English honors major says that this song has the most true lyrics of ALL songs....William Thackeray would love this song! :) Thanks for sharing. :)
Karen was so cute in that dialogue starting at 2:09...what a dream for men who are not into the 'trashy slut' type girls who dominate today. I truly hope she's now singing in the Lord's choir!
@engelcarta390 Well said! There has never been another one like her since her passing and I doubt we will ever see another "Karen Carpenter" ever again. :(
@orangewizard Amen! The trashy, slut-type girl is really all that is presented today. Because of that, I've almost forgotten what it's like to admire a wholesome, talented woman. And I truly hope that I get to hear Karen's voice again in the Lord's choir. God bless you Karen!
I love this song! This song had me begging my parents for a drum kit in my room when I was fourteen! I think this is the only song I learnt to play before they banished me to the garage!
I remember this song. I hadn't heard it since it was originally out. It was really popular back then but never het's played anymore. I remember flipping dials on the radio back then & picking it up being played on a religious station. I think it was on the gospel charts too. Shame she died so young. Good stuff here.
Ah, you can get them from a variety of places. People who sell Carpenters' bootlegs usually have a copy. Richard did not like "Make Your Own Kind Of Music", so that is one of the reasons it is not released. Also it would take alot of time to get permission on everything. It would also be a gamble in their minds because of the sales. I would definitely buy it!!!
@AKindOfHush It's a shame RC didn't like "Make Your Own Kind of Music." This same song on BBC Four is probably more polished, but it seems like they were struggling through it. This seems more alive and heartfelt.
super ............ karen and richard

Great seeing Karen on the drums. I take it is a very early clip.

This may be the only Carpenters' song in which Richard sings a bit of the lead.

I totally 100% agree. Karen was a beautiful girl. I too am not into the trashy slut types you seem to find everywhere today.
