Sugar addiction is due to chronic neurotransmitter deficiencies. The solution is a 100% pure amino acids supplement (i.e. no fillers, no additives, no sugar/stevia, and manufactured at very low heat). Such a product is called AMINOKIT Recovery Formula and can end sugar cravings in 24 hours. The above product has been used in drug rehab centers for 15 years to end cravings for not only refined sugar but cocaine, heroin, alcohol, and other drugs. Avoid sugar and achieve fast, healthy weight loss.
I am writing a book about Eating Disorders and talk extensively about HFCS. (Actually I rant a bit about it) I understand why the food industry pushes this substance, but what is wrong with dietitians? So many of my patients have had the experience of being told that they must eat, say a Hershey's candy bar, in order to "overcome" their fear of high calorie foods.
I think the point is that sugar and for example high-fructose corn syrup is not food, it's a highly addictive white powder/chemical that causes severe health problems. I think it's mainly directed towards the corporations who produce this stuff and puts it in almost all our foods. I agree that a toxic, addictive substance should be classified as just that.

....regulation of the food industry....now that is a good one....just like they regulated the GMO's and the introduction of genetically MUTATED organisms & monopoly of monsanto??
....edible herbicides, insecticides & self propagating crops....does anyone really think exterminating honey bees was entirely an accident?
....here it is in WI the end of june and i have yet to see one honey bee....
Knowledge is real choice, when you don't know, how can you choose wisely and choose whats best for you and yours... unless you don't give a s##t you know the bliss of ignorance= contract disease, screw your body up screw your mind up keep ill and die young! is that bliss no but its still ignorance.. ignorance is the real evil in the world..
-seems a few have missed the point, it is the artificial-sweeteners which are causing obesity, -owing human-body cannot properly metabolize Fructose, a cheaper substitute for natural Sugar. Again the involvement of selfish-interests mandating Gov'mt.-regulation, now finding Fructose in 90% of supermarket shelf-foods, -instead of ordinary old-fashioned naturally assimilated canesugar. Simply read 'ingredience' label on packages, --it if fructose is included, --put it back, as your protest vote!
fructose is in table sugar as well as high fructose corn syrup. So anything with sugar, half of that is fructose, Sucrose (table sugar) is half fructose and half glucose.
The problem is not just high fructose corn syrup, but actually corn itself. Many of the calories we consume everyday come from corn or derivatives of corn. Stef, Did you purposely skip the line that implicates corn when reading this (7:08), or was it innocent oversight? I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume the latter.
Robert's article calls for regulation of fructose. But it was regulation that caused things like aspartame, saccharin, and high fructose corn syrup to get into their places. These "products" are already "regulated" (protected by the marraige of state power and CEO greed). More state "intervention" would make things worse.
Are you kidding me? You're fine with people using recreational drugs and don't want moral choices regulated, but want what people can eat? What the fuck is Stef trying to say here, because I'm seriously confused. It's nice you're educating people about fructose's effects, but regulation? What the fuck twisted logic is that?
@roysensei the main problem is, that you can no longer choose, most people can't go and by their products directly from the farmer, they go to a shopping center and 99% of the food available there is toxic AND masking itself as health food.
freedom is the ability to choose, if you have no choice, there is no freedom...
@roysensei Like Stefbot said, he was just reading it but to a larger point...we have to work with the system we have. Regulations are the only tools that we have at this point other than education but you see how great that works in America.
Funny, it was a youtube video of him, that makes me finally take the steps to cut down on fructose (I have read on this topic before, but the sugar addiction forced me back). I have made some trials for two months now, and this monday, I will go further: no (processed) wheat, low sugar, more meat and more vegetables (not starch). "Good Calories, Bad Calories" is a good book on the government influence in our eating disorder. Using a Glycemic index isn't a bad idea either.
Not to mention, half of products containing High Fructose Corn Syrup, contains Mercury. Something to do with the mercury cell leeching technology to seperate the syrup from the corn.
Some of my friends are Raw foodest and drink Sooooo much freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juice. And they are so super healthy, have amazing looking bodies. but they dont eat or drink anything cooked or processed. Anyway they haven't been sick it 10 years. So I really dont agree that fruit juice (freshly squeezed) is bad.
I replacd all my sugared soft drinks with carbonated water. It's the fizziness that I like about soft drinks, so soda water works forme. Now just to get the HFCS out of the rest of my diet.
I've got a water carbonator so I make my own at home. The cylinders are pretty cheap, so it works out much cheaper than buying it. Sometimes I add a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice for flavour.
What a coincidence....I just watched him give a lecture about the dangers of sugar on YT last night. He was very technical about how it all works and why its so unhealthy. Glad your bringing this topic up Stef. People need to know this to make informed decisions.
fructose consumption is a red-herring. Our caloric intake hasn't changed substantially over the last 50 years. What has is our level of exercise and fitness.
If there is a definite correlation with the rise of HFCS and obesity I would sooner blame it on its cheapness and availability rather than anything about its structure that makes it different from other carbs. (as you yourself say)
Thank you Stefan, for sharing this. I watched Dr. Lustig's video presentation on this a couple months ago, but it is difficult to get people to even start a video that is over 90 minutes.
The author of the article simply takes the wrong solution. The only reason we use HFCS instead of sugar is because sugar has incredibly high tariffs on it. Presumably to protect the farmers here from competition. Sugar is actually much healthier and cheaper, and companies like coke would use it if the tariffs for importing it weren't so ridiculous. If you go to a country where they produce a lot of sugar, or it's import tax isn't ridiculous, sodas like coke are made with sugar instead.
Well, not really. Stefan also admires Dawkins, who's a socialist - but only for his skill in the natural sciences. Stefan isn't a biologist, and Dawkins isn't a philosopher, so neither should really be expected to be super great at those.
Well we all see the tragic Irony in the article itself don't we? Government subsidies are the reason fructose is so prevalent. It's hard to find food that doesn't have some fructose in it. Yet here this guy is implying we're all clinically addicted to it, and must be forced to stop consuming it as if we had any choice to begin with. I'm pretty sure all that needs to happen is for the corn subsidies to end.
I found it odd before but now i can understand why he would read it. For one, it's obviously dishonest for stef to not include the full statements of the author, even if he disagrees with them in full, and there are obviously other reasons why sugar consumption is out of control.
@Fetch... and as Stef has said, only chaos and destruction can come out of violence, and here is yet another example of the "fruits" of government violence.
fructose should be taken, like all things, in it's natural form, i.e. bananas etc.
I also like that, among all the incomprehensible sleep inducing talk, one phrase is made clear and simple to understand. Even slang is used, which is strange given that there is such an adherence to the idea of 'proper terms' being used for everything else.. "Fructose is like alcohol without the buzz". It's even repeated.
Message: "alcohol has a buzz. Alcohol has a buzz. Go to sleep."
@Fetchdafish the second that you start believing you have no choice is the exact same second you gave away any possible choice you might have had; responsibility is a blessing, not a burden...
This was a very good reading. Frankly I think now that I have heard this I now understand why I have fatty liver. Fructose consumption maybe why. My personal physician has diagnosed me with fatty liver over four months ago. The low fat diet I have been put on didn't make a dent. Mainly because now that I have heard this fructose must be the culprit.

I have had gout for years, and tried just about everything without success.I reduced meat to, minimum once

Finally I have read something about Excessive fructose increasing uric acid.I experimented reducing my fruit
