What do you mean by cheap in this case? Cheap as in cheap tricks/unfair? Or cheap as in badly made? I wouldn't really agree with either of those criticisms. Alpha is rather cheap in the former sense, but the AI isn't that important anyway. It is great playing against friends. The mind games you have, and need to have, in this game are fantastic. The counter system is IMO one of the best features included in any fighting game.
I wouldn*t really say that it is unfair, but that the difficulty level is not very well balanced. There is no easy and normal is what other games call hard or even very hard. The AI does long combos and a few juggles, but that*s what real players do too. It sucks for casual players and there is no difficulty where you can just spam a few combos, but the only thing I'd consider unfair are their counters. Sometimes they counter the living hell out of me even when I vary perfectly.
@OnkelCannabia This is probably the only fighting game where i spam like crazy. i only countered like 3 times and that's about it. and there's some characters i hate fighting. Bayman because of his grab move and Brad Wong because he can easily dodge your moves. it's like fighting a cheap version of Voldo from Soulcalibur.
Wow, I always found DOA to be the least spammable game of them all. And not countering may be possible against the AI - it is still a massive handicap though - but against any decent human player it basically means you're gonna get your ass handsed to you. If one a whole Tag Team round with counter only. No offense, but if you're spamming and not countering, you're doing it wrong ;)

1) Mega Man is Capcom character not a Tecmo character, so it makes sense for him to not be in here.
2) Bungie, the guys who created the Halo franchise, worked with Team Ninja to create Nicole and Nassau Station.
3) Why you comparing this game to Gears of War? They're not even in the same genre!
