  • Great song, Alot of heart in this man, and his snyth band!

  • I saw The Call in Portland Oregon in the early 90's with Meredith Brooks. What a great show.Seeing this video is really nice.

  • The call will always be one the bands that inspired musicians as well as music writers and people who enjoy great music, cause people like us we still believe. Thanks youtube.

  • Pure bliss...

  • One of the BEST songs of all time by one of the best bands of all time! Michael Been and the guys (Tom, Scott, & Jim) should have truly been America's U2, but crappy label support & horrible marketing caused them to miss the mark. The power and passion of this song is incredible. When I got down and my faith was waivering, I could (and still often do) play this song to feel energized and uplifted. Thanks Michael for including your faith in your great rock music! See you at The Resurrection!

  • I still believe !

  • I bet he still believes and now he really does know !

God gave him such great talent and his music/lyrics will outlive us all !

Thank you for your musical gifts here on earth.

True positive insperation in an insane world.

    God Bless you, Micheal

  • I heard this on the radio 5 days ago for the 1st time ever. The whole time I was thinking it was a new David Byrne song. The singer does have a similar voice. Well imagine my surprise to find it was by an 80's band I had never heard of before. I'm from '81 after all. Being a big U2 & Talking Heads fan, this is perfect for me. I'm a new fan.

  • I prefer the Tim Capello version.

  • This is one of 2 DAILY wake-up songs, Let the Day Begin is the other, anyone that dislikes is in a dark place and I don't have anymore extra flashlights.

  • where is the studio album why cant i find it?

  • @lamo48 all the dislikes are from people who prefer the frankly EPIC version from Tim Cappello. Search for it and listen n tell me this version is better, bet you can't....

  • 6 people don't believe.

  • all dislikes most be commies!!!!!!

  • I think this is an autism anthem and I'm so sorry for your lose although the word sorry doesn't mean much I'd love to hear you sing I still believe at NAA conference in Florida I'll do whatever it takes your energy song mean a lot to me.

  • Michael is an incredibly underrated bassist. He's playing almost entirely hammer-ons. His groove is dead on!

  • @RyleeStrange Hammer-ons on a fretless bass to boot!

  • @buzzn4jc Which just means he knows a fretless bass like few others do! His sense of pitch on that puppy is nuts!

  • Wow. I was at this show. *chills*

  • this song has helped me get through so many hard times...

saw the Call in a tiny basement venue at Syracuse University in 1987 - we slam danced to "Walls Came Down," cheered for "Everywhere I Go," and stood in stunned silence and cried as Michael Been pounded out "I Don't Wanna" for an encore

one of the great underrated bands of the 80's

  • Great tune!

  • love this mans voice RIP Michael

  • Great song great artist will be missed R.I.P Michael

  • What a voice!! Without a doubt, the best unknown voice in rock!!!

  • Saw these guys open for Simple Minds in Ottawa, Canada back in the 80's...great show!

  • wasnt this song on lost boys , but a different band and some sax , are they a christain band

  • 2011 could be an extra tough year, and I'm going to need extra doses of this song to make the road a little easier. "I Still Believe" is a great tonic...classic...ever-lasting. When I'm old and debilitated, and perhaps can't get out of bed, I want to put on a set of good headphones and listen to Michael Been and The Call play and sing this song. It's magic.

  • @TheCheshire2009 I can't say it any better and so, I won't. I saw a billboard once in nowhere Missouri that very simply read in white letters against a black background... 'When you're going through hell, keep going'. — Winston Churchill

    And on you go...

  • Is he wearing a Triffids shirt? Excellent!

  • WOAH

  • one of the best musicians EVER...

  • I picked this song as my song for 2011, i wanted to die, could hardly move, was alone. Now I have Love,am full of life and everyday i move more.

  • I'm surprised that more bands and singers haven't covered this song. There's so much soul in it that I can only see singers being magnetized to it. On the other hand, Michael Been's performance would be a tough act to follow. This is a person bringing his song to fruition, and his heart truly shows.

  • @TheCheshire2009 - But do the other bands that would cover it "still believe"? I think the artist covering this has got to really believe in the lyrics to do as credible a job.

  • great song :)

  • This song kept me... maybe sane, maybe just alive? I can't even finish the line, but i wish i had thanked Michael for this song. I don't know, maybe it's not too late. From a fellow Oklahoman, thank you so incredibly much.

  • I saw the Call 8 times, in San Diego at a club called The Bacchanal (cir. 1987-88). They played back to back shows every time they came. Although the sets were similar, every show was more powerful than the previous. When I heard the Micheal been had passed, a shadow crossed my heart. I believe his purpose on this earth was fulfilled. Rest comfortably Micheal. You will be missed.

  • @mistarax ...wish you could have made it seven and given me one of your experiences!!

  • U2 cant hold a candle compared to The Call

  • Now I am torn between the two. Capello's holds so many memories for me, yet The Calls "original version" is simply AWESOME. And I have always believed that the original is the best.

  • In 1987 I saw a movie call The Lost Boys. To this day, it is still ranked in my top 5 movies of all time, partly due to the awesome soundtrack. On this soundtrack was a track by Tim Capello, which I would rank in my top 10 favourite songs of all time, a massive "Call" given my broad range of music tastes and the stack of 80s (and 70s) songs I love to bits. It wasn't until I stumbled onto this video 6 months back that I realised Capellos was not the original.

  • My first wife and I had seen them on MTV (The Walls Came Down) and she heard they were coming to town and asked if I wanted to go see them. It was a tiny little ex-porn theater in San Antonio that Stone City Attractions had turned into a small venue.

It was the most incredible show I have ever seen. They did this song for the first time in public that night (Michael said he had written it on the bus earlier in that tour) and the emotion was SO raw... awesome. RIP, Michael.

  • Very sorry to hear of Michael Been's passing. I am grateful that he and The Call gave us the gift of "Reconciled."

I heard The Call at The Palace in Hollywood in 1986. I was standing in the front row of the audience of about 1,400 very appreciative fans as the band played all the songs from "Reconciled." It was absolutely fantastic. Every song brought huge applause, and each time Michael replied, "Thank you very much. We appreciate it." Very gracious.

What talent and soul! I still believe!

  • Micheal Been...was one of the Greats...his time and true appreciation will come...i am only glad that i caught on to this band very early on...the true strength and dignity and power of The Call resonates from this song..

  • v sad to hear that news.

  • a part of my youth has died.

  • RIP Michael...Thanks so much for all you did and the tremendous talent you brought to the finest revolution of the 80's. Gone far too soon, but it will all live on........such a presence behind the bass and mic....

  • who needs u2 ??? rip michael.

  • Michael Been passed away of an apparent heart attack on August 19,2010. He was at the Pukkelpop Music Festival in Hasselt, Belgium. We have his son and family in our prayers. The Call's music will always live on.

  • @dodgybizkit what!!!!! no....

  • beautiful voice - awesome man - You are missed already Michael - RIP

  • chills everytime I hear this...RIP brother

  • retro funky

  • U2? First time I heard that comparison. They don't sound anything like U2 other than some of the stylistic things that many '80s bands -- including U2 -- shared. Great group! RIP Michael Been -- you kept the faith.

  • Love the vibe, horribly disappointed to have never experience his rare talent live.

Coming from an early indie background, I am sad to have lost great people like Michael, and another great one not that long ago.......Doug Bennet, love you guys!!!! Sing well together in heaven.

  • RIP Michael

  • This whole album was a Master piece. Thank you to the Call .... farewell Micheal.

  • Amen brother!!!!!! I agree with every word.

  • The Call was the most significant band I've ever found. They made me feel, and seek which allowed me to find. The still inspire me. Sad for our loss, glad I found them 25 years ago, glad I've had Micheal to inspire me for so long. Happy for him to Let his new Day Begin.

  • @WompyWamperson Amen brother!!!!!! I agree with every word.

  • Comment removed

  • Gutted to hear of Michael's passing tonight.. Deepest sympathies & thoughts with Rob & the family and the B.R.M.C. crew.. What a great guy! Can't believe it..

  • R.I.P. Michael

  • we had a christian rock band' we did this song i had never had heard it before. when i had moved down south from chicago the church i go to they had played this song on a tape' i said funny thought my friend wrote that song lol

  • One of the greatest rock anthems ever written. By the time they made it to Oakland on 86 tour the Coliseum was packed and everyone was bouncing on their toes singing this in absolute rapture. This song is all the religion I ever need.

  • Epic song. I think Alanis ripped off the riffs for her crap-hit "You Oughta Know."

  • EsoxRepublic: Bet it was a great concert, thanks for the info!

  • anyone know what kind of bass he is playing??

  • @kokomojosiphus Usually plays an Ampeg fretless. Crazy good technique. Yes, he really can play it with just left-hand hammering. I was 10 feet away for a whole concert and watched it all.

  • At 3:58 the bass licks dont even come close to matching the bass players fingers. Still sounds great though!

  • I saw this band in Houston,Tx. This band was way before their time, I rank them up their with U2. The lyrics to all the songs are deep. =)

  • Absolutely! This was a great band, and they never got their due. The first time I heard them was when they opened for "Simple Minds" in L.A. in 1986. A few months later I saw them at "The Palace" in Hollywood. Fantastic show, perfect venue--about a 1,000-1,500 people in the audience. The band was strong and gracious. The audience applauded heavily after each song, and the lead singer said each time "Thank you much. We appreciate it." "Reconciled" is a classic album.

  • One of my all time favorites.

  • Opinions vary and that is what makes the world go around every one is entitled to their own. And I still Like Tim Cappello's Version. And he by the way is member of Tina Turners entourage,

  • one of my top ten favorite songs...ever...reminds me of the few times i felt sane back in the 80's.

  • Crappy band making a mess of and Awesome song Need Tim in there doing it Right

  • @MsShaders... The '87 Tim Cappello/Lost Boys version was the cover... the Call wrote the song... It was also redone by Russ Taff the same year.

  • @MsShaders

are you serious? THIS IS THEIR SONG

  • @MsShaders I don't see how you can compare Capello's to this version. No accounting for taste, that's for sure. The only thing Capello would be good at would be underwear commercials.

  • The original and still the best!

  • A most awesome song

  • that muscley dude with the sax, is off lost boys yeah?// think he is callled tim cappello, and was his cover of this

  • Saw them open for Simple Minds at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas, Apr. 2006. Awesome show.

  • such an epic song

  • nice, but i still believe the original is unbelievable

  • Wow, I adore you guys, can't say it enough!!

  • This was good for an original...but better with Sax.

  • Great song! Good group. Great writing with a lot of heart.

I saw The Call in 1986 at The Palace in Hollywood--a relatively small venue (room for audience of about 1,500). I thought it the perfect size for the group and the audience. It was fantastic.

The Call never received the attention they deserved in the U.S. I don't know about abroad.

  • I love sax's but not in this song. So this is for me the best version.

Espessialy because the synthesiser makes a sound like spring, everytime I hear it's solo, it seems like I see leaves grow from the knot till real fresh leaves. Just like spring.

  • Either way, with or without the sax, this song is great. (I do have to admit the sax added something just right to the song)

  • great band,epic lyrics.....

  • no fucking way this is better than tim cappello version, this is good but tim made it fantastic and timeless.

  • Excellent song, talented band

  • I love these guys, they frikken rock man!!!!!

  • Tim Capello did this in Lost Boys....nobody can do it better than him....rent the movie....you will see

  • No body does it better than the band that wrote it..The Call..No comparison

  • That is what I meant....LOL....Love them!....The Call

  • Better with the Saxamaphone? No way!

  • ,,,ah..what?.....cant understand your gibberish...The Call released this song...so the Saxaphone was played by a member of Call. :)

  • No, in the movie the Lost Boys there is a version with Tom Capello on "sax-a-maphone". C'mon. Remember the Simpsons episode?

  • No....I do not watch the Simpsons.....you are getting away from what is talent.....watch the Simpsons if you want...but I was talking about Lost Boys,.,,,

  • Yeah, me too. The word "sax-a-maphone" was from the Simpsons. I thought you would get the reference. Back to the song. The sax part was NOT from The Call.

  • no where is Tim Capello?....the sax player from the Lost Boys...he does it best....he is the best

  • Great song and NO,its nottracked orsynced, Ive playted in bands for 30 years, sae several play bass on just fret at cetain times,,,

  • ... in english maybe?

  • anyone know the chords to this song?

  • tim capello is the dude with the oily muscles. he covered this song for the lost boys.

  • I was born may 30th 1986;....that's really trippy to me...I was born really early in the morning on the 30th too so I bet my mom was in labor with me while this was being filmed. just thought I'd share :P

  • Wow, that's exciting if I think about it. No wait, I thought about. It's not!

  • Great, epic, anthemic---timeless.

I will always love this song.

Yes, The Call should have been bigger but they had a Christian lean to their pop/rock music / This song is an inspirational song, as well Everywhere I Go, which I didn't realize at first.

    Kudos

  • Once in 1987, I saw an oiled up muscle dude in spandex, singing this and playng a saxo!!!

It was at Santa Cruz Beach board walk.

    I'm quite sure...

  • and im sure the boys were lost also lol

  • I was at that Show in the "Crowd" in Santa Cruz.... What a Night that Was.... Happy Memories of a Time long Since Gone... and Yes the Boys were and Still Are Lost.

  • Hey I think I was there to? I coulda sworn I saw Cory Haim hanging about as well. I was scoping his civilian wardrobe.

  • AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I was expecting a muscly dude with a saxophone!

  • Yea, that keyboard tone is bad. But it doesn't need to be on guitar, it just needs a better synth patch.

  • if the only thing not tracked was michael's vox, then why did michael signal to the drummer to let him know a change was coming up in the middle of the song?? Really good band, great voice, great songs!

  • were you even paying attention?

  • I agree 100%..I dont undestand why folks feel this was tracked..

  • this song rocks! i feel as if this song helps me to figure out who i am.

  • so what are ya?

  • Great band, great sound! However, I think the one thing that held them back was too much synthy-sounding '80s keyboards. Listen to this again and imagine the keyboard part replaced with a guitar. I've always thought that their songs that minimized the keyboard parts, and focused more on guitar were far stronger. "The Woods" from the Into The Woods album is a great example. The keys on that song are an accent, not a feature, but the guitars just wail! Oh, and Michael Been plays an amazing bass.

  • Well, this was created in the 80's. :)

  • but the 80's were just SO about the keyboard. I love this song & remember the band from college era - where is the band now?

  • One of the best bands to come out of the bay area! I'm still in my cave but I can see an opening and I certainly still believe!

  • great song - played at a dear friend's funeral, and it spoke to us all. God bless you Bruce.

  • Thanks for posting. I love the Call. Wish someone would post a video for "In the River."

  • <3 them!!!!!!

  • Still a great great song !

  • The gresy guy from lost boys the corys style hahah freaking 80s stylee

  • prefer tim capello with the sax blasting out ,hands down! still feel it tho

  • I still believe.

I still believe The Call is the most under appreciated rock band of all time.

  • I bought this album when it first came out

and I thought it was awesome

    so I ask you

    The Call

    Do you still Believe?

  • I hear this song every day - it's AMAZING, These lyrics... they're just so real. Well written well performed, just a great song. Still gives me chils too!

  • wow, another forgotten song. can't believe I still know the lyrics after more than 20 years

  • I am so far from christian........but I loved his voice....this was when it wasnt shoved down your throat....I paid my 20 bucks and saw them in 1989..good show.

  • I believe Mark Heard was the Greatest singer/songwriter ever. I believe The Call were the Greatest Band ever. Both love JESUS and I love them for that. I shall be eternally grateful for their words and melodies. Their music held my hand through many many dark times and pointed to the light. I Praise God for these two great artists. Trough all the pain and suffering, all the doubt and destruction, all the delusion and discomfort , all the false worship and satanic lies, "I STILL BELIEVE" alex

  • I had a thought for a minute and looked it up...no they were not on the same label as Milli Vanilli. The late 80's were dark days for the music industry.

  • Well SOME bands use a backing track when doing live shows...it's not unusal.......but usually because something is up.....not like Milli Vanilli.....they were TOTAL posers. You'd be surprised of some of the big names thta use a backing track.

  • I dont see a problem with backing tracks when its a 3-5 man band wanting to sound like 8-10 with horns or piano or whatever they cant lug around on tour or play simultaneously. Drummers use click-tracks to keep the beat with these so that they can keep the band straight. but that should only be if they are not playing these instruments on stage during live performances.

  • yeah using a backing track for the instrument you are supposed to actually be playing on stage is just a recipe for disaster and maybe just maybe that is why The Call didnt make it like I expected them too....idk

  • ok im just going to say that everything but the vocals is tracked and the label made them do it since they were filming....and now i can go back to enjoying this and just wondering...phew

  • Disagree 100%..Live as can be...

  • @NutzMusic1234 does nobody understand that it's just that one riff at 3:58-4:01that looks fishy to me?....the rest of that was just a wasted comical rant. Look at that spot and tell me what you think.

  • Live!

  • @NutzMusic1234 ok and the riff that can't be heard at 1:33 too.
