  • not trying to be mean or anything, i love stealers wheel n all but whats up with joe egan haha is it drugs that screwed him up? or is he just a conceited bastard?

  • 3 people just can't get by.

  • I recall there being OGWT reruns on cable years ago, back when they had a few channels that put that stuff on. I got a glimpse of quite a few bands from those days on there. Sometimes, you miss some really good stuff when the only thing they put on the radio playlists was the one Top 40 hit the band had. You never know what they really might've sounded like.

Good little tune, Gerry. You did well in your turn.

  • Rafferty is doing his Joe Cocker impression!! Cocker couldn't play the tambourine and sing at the same time though. I wish Rafferty was still around...RIP.

  • ARIEL BENDER!!!!

  • Hey! There's no SHARE button to share this with facebook! that sucks...love this song!!!

  • Sounds like Free

  • Fried up man.

  • Dont give a fuck what any of you arseholes think!! I THINK that was a superb vocal.Full stop! I also think that a much later American band called Cry Of Love (very good also) copied this vocal style.

  • The lead singer is Ewan Mcgregor?

  • @kcran5671 looks nothing like ewan mcgregor

  • @Sebastifariaan hahaha

  • OMG that drumer is just too Hippie

  • I beg to differ I think it is Moses on drums lol

  • A band on top form, playing live. Joe Egan is the man and the bass playing is funky and spot on.Love THIS.

  • super cool. Very Paul Rogers/ bad company.

  • Egan's face's in this are unreal. LMAO! He was on some SERIOUS happy pills!

  • Damn thats fucking OWEND the music from today!

  • OMG, it's Jesus on the drums! look at him! XD

  • @Led757 It is the burger King :D

btw this is still awesome music

  • @Led757 I dunno man... That beautiful scarfish thing he's wearing looks like it might be the skin of more than a few of the "sheep" in the flock of christians he supposedly 'forgives'

lol. Jesus wears the skins of his followers. Kind of like that Nazi bastard who made lamp shades from the skin of murdered jews.

Yes... I just went there. Hope some part of you laughed before maybe being offended. fuck Jesus, that stupid mexican built my deck like a drunkard! My kids died on that deck man.

  • dudee! jesus is playing rhe drums oh snap ninja

  • Blimey Joe Egan looks like he could be Jack Osbourne's Dad !!! @ 2:14

  • Jesus on the drums. :D

  • I think he sounds more like Paul Rodgers at times in this song......

  • @JimAdsit Well that was also my impression .They really sounds like some of the Free songs

  • ahah yé stone en cris lui!! ;p

  • I think that the drummer was going for a Jesus look

  • where is Gerry Rafferty in this video ?

  • @mrpentium No Gerry in this video. He had left Steelers Wheel for sometime during this time period.

  • I have to agree with you that he does sound like Joe Cocker in this song.

    This is really good.

  • Are their albums out of print? I can only find them on 'best of' compilations. It took Gerry Rafferty's death to wake me up to how awesome they were. RIP.

  • @TCrawfor The three original SW albums were superbly remastered back in about '04 by Lemon Recordings.

  • why couldnt they give him lil waynes or lady gagas liver, theyre a waste of life anyways

  • Rest in peace Gerry. Your music will endure.

  • RIP indeed, Gerry. So long and thanks for the music...

  • RIP Gerry Rafferty

  • Comment removed

  • @toomanybeer That`s joe Egan singing - at a time when gerry had left the band ( but then rejoined ) so he isnt in the video at all .

  • RIP Gerry Rafferty! Gerry Rafferty, the Scottish singer and songwriter behind such hits as “Baker Street” and “Stuck in the Middle with You,” has died at the age of 63. He reportedly had been suffering from liver and kidney problems. According to various reports, he died in Dorset, England, with his daughter Martha by his side.

  • Hey I heard these guys are having a reunion tour later this year with all of the original members. I can't wait to see Gerry live, I'm pumped.

  • TOTALLY Joe Cocker, lol. Sadly I'm only pokin round after hearing Of Gerry's passing. Sadly they say it's alcohol related. Which means that addiction has claimed another great artist. So sad RIP

  • @MrDrHook - C'mon man, tell me that anyone is going to live forever.

  • Is Gerry in the video?

  • @wmsmorgan No, Gerry Rafferty isn't in this video. He left the band after releasing "Stuck In The Middle With You" He came back later, and he and Joe became a duo. It was just the two of them when they recorded "Star".

  • Rest In Peace Gerry!

  • RIP Gerry Rafferty

  • this guy is soooo happy :D

  • can i vote to dislike the person who voted to dislike this ? , common ya pussy show yourself

  • the one person who disliked this is a homo. if i could. i would punch you the face for sure

  • Story of my life...I don't try hard, but I get by...

  • These guys were OUTRAGOUS! FANFUKINTASTIC! ..I'm a product of the 70's ..and they rock!! ( I just forgot about them ) Too many bands in the 70's!! I can't keep up

  • Needs more cowbell

  • @jhunter1021 agree with you 100%

  • drummer looks just like jesus

  • @mindingosafado Hell Yeah :D

  • @mindingosafado If Jesus was a pimp...Hahahahaha.

  • Good old music

  • The reason why Gerry Rafferty isnt in this performance is that he had left the band after recording the album . When Stuck In The Middle With You on which Gerry sings lead became a worldwide hit he rejoined the band. That`s why Gerry also isnt in the promo video for stuck In the middle with you .

  • @45rpmSINGLES I thought Joe Egan sang lead on that song as well as "Star"

  • @roselandalvin Joe Egan sang lead on Star , Gerry on Stuck In The Middle although the promo video footage of that shows Joe singing ( miming to gerry vocals ) as Gerry had left the band but then rejoined

  • The Drummer looks at LOT like Dennis Locorriere, lead singer for Dr. Hook from this same time period. Check it out!

  • @paranoid19851 This is a great video. I just wish Egan and Rafferty would get back together and do a reunion tour as Stealers Wheel. Egan did play on many of Gerry Rafferty's albums after Gerry split off from Stealers Wheel. They remain friends to this day. In fact I just got Rafferty's newest album (2009) and Joe Egan is referenced many times on the album as a contributor.

  • @joevs21001 Gerry is a chronic alcoholic and hasnt made any new recordings for years and hated live performance . He last performed live 17 years go in 1993 and I fortunately managed to see him then. Joe Egan retired from the music industry in 1981 nearly 30 years ago . So no-one will ever see them live again. Joe did some background vocals Gerry`s 1993 album On A Wing & A Prayer . The only other Gerry album he`s on is Gerry`s first solo album from 1972

  • @GoldenOldiesOn45RPM Actually Joe and Gerry recently worked together as of 2009. If you look up Gerry's NEWEST album which was released in 2009 and is called "Life Goes On" . I actually have it and it's not bad at all. Has some 'retro' stuff on it and some new release material. Gerry has had issues in the past, no doubt, but he's still alive and well and he IS still working. Your right though, he NEVER liked doing live performances.

  • @joevs21001 As a hardcore fan I can tell you it doesnt have anything recorded in the last 5 years. The `new release material` you mention were available as free downloads from gerry`s old website - and that ceased to exist years ago ! Gerry definately didnt work with Joe in 2009 - Joe appears on those songs taken from the album On A Wing & A Prayer recorded in 1993 - Life Goes On etc. The only song that was new to fans was Maid of Culmore which is only new to cd , not newly recorded.

  • @GoldenOldiesOn45RPM Your defeinitely right and I appreciate the info. It's a shame that Gerry doesn't perform anymore. I truly think that he was a master musician, composer, and writer back in his "heyday" so to speak in the late 70's and early 80's. I can still listen to his music all day long and never tire of it. I have introduced younger people to his music and they too have become fans of Gerry. May you enjoy Gerry's music for many more years to come. Take care.

  • Egan's singing live, but does anyone know if that's really the band playing? I mean, he's not just singing to a backing track while they pretend to play, right? I ask cuz the band sounds almost impossibly close to the record.

  • I love this song, love Egan's vocals on this take. Too bad Gerry wasn't in on it.

  • @Alecdeluxe I love all the faces he makes too. You can tell he's having a good time.

  • @Alecdeluxe Kinda reminds me of Joe Cocker. They almost could be brothers! LOL

  • Jesus on the drums? Awesome!!

  • anyone know if paul pilnick is playing here as i think i met him in liverpool

  • @mrcolinraycyrus Yep, that's Paul playing guitar right behind Luther "Ariel Bender" Grosvenor, who was brought in to replace Rafferty. Then Rafferty came back, they were a sextet for a while, then they disbanded. Pilnick has supposedly reformed SW with Tony Williams but not with Egan nor Rafferty.

  • they should bring back the old grey whistle test , man

  • @spanyug

later with jools holland is the closest we got now

  • Stealers Wheel, Come on Joe Egan and Gerry Rafferty, EVERYONE is ready for a REUNION. Even a REUNION special concert on DVD would be COOL! No ones getting any YOUNGER guys. Egan is great in this. Although he does look like Joe Cocker's brother!

  • Yeah I'd defo pay to see Mr Egan and Mr Rafferty back on stage together. Shame Joe kinda faded into anonymity after SW split while Gerry's profile rocketed with his excellent City To City and Night Owl albums. I saw GR in concert back in '93 and I remember he mentioned Joe. Thought the SW remasters on cd where great.

    (David).

  • i think its so cool how they signed Jesus on to play drums on this tune ;)

I mean I know he's in demand - so to give his time for this must have been a big deal back in the day

  • @Bf109D Jesus aka Rod Coombes doesn't look like Jesus any more - lol.

  • i bought the album in 72 or 3. that b4 youtube, lol. the visuals match the vinyl. :-)

  • The bassist looks like Black Joaquin Phoenix!

  • @hilabeans123 Wow, he sure does!

  • This guy looks like Tobias and Seth Rogan

  • brilliant song.

    greetz from holland

  • i need more cow bell

  • tune

  • Ok i can admit i've listened to this song 25 times in a row joevs21001 i'm soooo with you on this one!!!

  • Come on Joe & Gerry, what about a Stealers Wheel REUNION! The world is now READY guys.

  • @joevs21001 Oh Man, I'm sorry, I don't have the heart to tell 'em.

  • @joevs21001

oh well, so much for that now...

  • @joevs21001 sadly it'll never now happen - at least not with Gerry, RIP.

  • @joevs21001 Sorry, fella. Too late now. The bottle won another battle. RIP Gerry.

    Tom Loughlin Jr UticA ny

  • @joevs21001 I guess Gerry was too sick to re unite :( RIP GERRY

  • @joevs21001 C'est impossible

    Tom

  • @joevs21001 RIP Gerry.

  • @joevs21001 would have been nice, RIP Gerry.

  • @joevs21001 ehm... you know.. ehm.. gerry died 2001

  • @s0ulj4h187 Are you saying Gerry died in 2001? Actually Gerry died about two months ago in the beginning of 2011. RIP Gerry. Your music will truly endure the test of time. Some of the best memories of my life are listening to Gerry Rafferty's music.

  • Joe Egan reminds me a little of Joe Cocker in this video. Steelers Wheel was definitely in their prime in this video. They aren't given as much credit as they deserve. They were an incredible band.

  • Egan is outstanding in this. You dont get em like him very often. Respect.

  • yeah bby this is my fav song i missed it

  • when i was in grade 5 Joe Egans nephew was in my class!

    lol no joking

  • hahaahah jesus is on fucking drums!

  • I've watched this every day since I discovered it a couple of weeks ago. Continue to be amazed at the power of this ill-fated band. We need more great music like this!

  • jesus is on the drums

  • LOL! I was just thinking that.

  • I remember this...they also did a great version of Late Again....is that on youtube....i cant find it

    Jim

  • god damn it i was born in the wrong time

  • It's OK whenever you were born.

I guarantee you, we NEVER heard this stuff with the range and clarity with which we ALL can hear it today.

    Just enjoy.

  • fantastic voice, fantastic song... true rock classic.

  • Lost classic

  • More cowbell

  • Luther (soon to be Ariel) is having a good time, tho Paul Pilnick doesn't look too happy. Pilnick was soon in Badger, Luth over to Ian Hunter and Mott.

  • this was done after Rafferty left the band

  • Joe Egan is so CUTE!

  • Gerry Rafferty looks like Joe Cocker. Ha ha.

  • That's 'cuz it's not Gerry Rafferty. It's Joe Egan.
