Why nail the opening ribbon tab tot he end of the compartment flap door instead of attaching it to the face of the flap door (by driving the end of the ribbon into a small slit cut into the wood face) and cutting a small slit in the leather and feeding it through (in the center towards the top and bottom of course)? It seems unnecessary to create new holes in the wood when one could use the same methods as the originals and have it completed in a much more finished and polished manner.
