genevievevlogs is my... 3rd or 4th channel? However, I set it up 2 years ago with no real intentions of using it. THAT SHALL CHANGE. Soon. ish. Soonish.

Very well said, David. It's no secret that many YouTubers consistently put on a facade in their videos and you can see right through it. Although, when I decided to start making videos I made an entirely new channel/username...so I suppose I'm sort of contradicting myself.

I've always found the URL/IRL name relationship interesting. I think because I was "introduced" to you as Dave relatively recently this change isn't too much of a change for me; I like the sound of this new approach, though, making "dc8r17" more of a "symbol" than a be-all-end-all statement of who you are...

@g2theIrishPianist It's certainly an idea and will probably use the new intro to still acknowledge the 'dc8r17' part of the channel as this is where you'll find me, but it's all progress as I mentioned to Nicole. And cheers for the support :)

Loved this video, David. Very inspiring.

That's a thing I think I struggle with sometimes with YouTube myself... Trying to discard the idea of the "brand" and displaying the real me instead. But, I think everyone's first year as a vlogger is ultimately one of exploration. Slowly but surely. :)

@Nsnick88 In total agreement here, it's all a working progress and sometimes we need something to pick up an error or an idea to keep us making ourselves work. Your channel does stand out to me though, but that's probably down to you being awesome.

Question: Why do you refer to the viewers as "decoders"? Is it because of a wordplay with d.cater and decoder?

@orcasquall I will answer it in the question video but will answer it here, but yes that it exactly it. @cutecoil's way of saying the channel as d.cater in one of her videos sparked the idea.

I chose my username before I ever thought I would pick up vlogging. I sometimes wish I'd picked a different one but I don't want to start all over with a new channel either.
