@cinderellalifestyle Hi again Laurie. Your song prompted me to research Santa Susana and I was, of course, horrified and angered by what I read. I,m left wondering if our authorities have any idea what they're doing, or worse, are a 'few' lives considered expendible in the endless hunt for energy ? Here in Scotland, we have an increasing number of windfarms appearing on the hillsides and whilst unpopular with some, to me they represent hope y'know ? no nukes, no oil wars.

I think it is critical to learn by our mistakes....(if that is possible in governmental cases) where $ is concerned, it is a battle,.... Avoiding war and preserving what we do have, for future generations,,,,a must. I was reading about madame Curie this past week..we have come a long way in a short time.....I'd rather see a windmill than a refinery, too;-)

x amount of miles away they where told to turn there back to the bomb and put there hands over there eyes,when it went off he said he could see the bones in his hands like an xray

he died before he was 50 his two sons died before they where 45 all from cancer

And for doing a job in duty to country, all the harder to understand....There was so much that was not known then, your accounting is witness to that. There are many people who have been affected by this who are fighting to keep a very public eye on it, legislation enacted. etc, sadly it is only one of many "slip ups" worldwide. There ought to be compensation.

We lived in Palo Cedro, Hayfork..a short stint in Salem OR..then to Newcastle. Redding area was the only place of my childhood that i also remember hearing "sonic booms",...perhaps they had to do with the space programs...? the nation was captivated,...

@songblurred Don---there is another US accident in which a technician was impaled on the roof ..had to hang there 6 days....there are a couple vids right here at yt that are heart rending. if censorship comes about in RE the internet, it might be an attempt to shut down avenues of exchange of info, there are alot of people who don't know about this, amazingly. unfortunately it is often years later that truth comes out..take tobacco, for instance...lotsa sacrifices, there:-(

Awesome song Laurie. I was in California in 59 too and have some of the same reactions, so I like these kinds of songs.  Even though the words tell the story on this one, I really like the creativity and effort you put into the music. The part where it builds up to mayday meltdown gave me chills. Great creation!

@SubstituteForTalent a dear friend years ago confided she grew up in New Mexico, in a very poor area,..which must have been close to Roswell.....when I read about SSFL, I remembered her relating about the SKIES she saw there when little, she knew they were testing, she did not know what....crazy colored skies she said...then I recalled the sunsets in Redding, where I lived, '59...they too were CRAZY colors...red, orange, purple...like a sky on fire. I recently went to the opera Doctor Atomic which is about Oppenheimer and the development of the atomic bomb in New Mexico. Nobody had ever created atomic power before, and the scientists were taking bets about how big the blast at "Trinity" would be be... they didn't even know if they would set off a chain reaction that would destroy the world.
