Bryan, this is a well-written declaration that states what was clear since Prop. 8: people don't have a right to vote on civil rights of any kind, it should be decided by legislators through Constitutional Courts' rulings, and judges should be held accountable for denying people their rights, but what they do is cowardice: they claim a denial of liability to shove it in our faces that majority of people don't agree, and cover it up under false pretenses that this is democracy!
And, BTW, I did not say a word about the US Declaration of Independence or anything else, because I don't think that some document should and is fully able to describe civil rights completely, without leaving any chance for revision. You can't seriously believe that those words written 200 years ago can be applied in every important aspect of our lives.

You know, it took me 6 years to realize something important. I used to think that I was unlucky to be gay, that I'd rather be straight, because straight people get to be out in the open, holding hands, hugging & kissing, and no one tells them that it's inappropriate and bad for kids. I used to envy straight people for that reason. But not anymore. I realized that I'm the lucky one, because I get to see this world with my own gay eyes, first hand, and I see that it is OK to be gay...

the definition of marriage is a male and a female not 2 males. you can't make something legal that doesn't even make sense and contradicts the definition. you have to call it something else. if anything, make it so that civil unions give just as much rights as marriage, but it's not marriage. because marriage in definition is for 2 people, male and female.

I think you need to remember that this debate is about state-recognized civil marriage. Churches are still free to define religious marriage in any way they so choose. That's the way it is in Canada. Churches are not forced to marry anyone that does not meet their particular definition (divorcees, same-sex couples, etc).

Love is a human emotion that most humans should be able to enjoy. It is truly caring for somewhere, regardless of their orientation, ethnicity, or background. All love is equal in the sense of intimacy. Being gay just means that a person loves people of the same sex the same amount, maybe more, as a straight person does to someone of the opposite sex.

I used to think that I was unlucky to be gay, that I'd rather be straight, because straight people get to be out in the open, holding hands, hugging & kissing, and no one tells them that it's inappropriate and bad for kids. I used to envy straight people for that reason. But not anymore. I realized that I'm the lucky one, because I get to see this world with my own gay eyes, first hand, and I see that it is OK to be gay...

What annoys me is that the bible is completely outdated in 2009. Yet it's still being used as a weapon.
People need to understand the context of which the bible was written if they wish to actually believe in it.

the definition of marriage is a male and a female not 2 males. you can't make something legal that doesn't even make sense and contradicts the definition. you have to call it something else. if anything, make it so that civil unions give just as much rights as marriage, but it's not marriage. because marriage in definition is for 2 people, male and female.

Just so you know, marriage has already taken a turn for the worse in this country because about half of marriages end in divorce. Although I'm not saying that granting homosexual marriage would decrease the percentage on this statistic, I'm just saying that heterosexual marriage is not all that it is cracked up to be.
Furthermore, why did you watch this video in the first place, and then proceed to argue online?

Divorce hasn't always been an option, the penalty for dissolving the sacrament of marriage was death, until not very long ago. The woman in any marriage was also prperty, but to you that's neither here nor there, since your reactionary views are that marriage isn't continually re-defined, as is religious dogma, which has clearly infected your thoughts. You should be arguing against interracial marriage, that's more your speed...like it used to be Slooow, where any idiot (you) could understand.

I think you need to remember that this debate is about state-recognized civil marriage. Churches are still free to define religious marriage in any way they so choose. That's the way it is in Canada. Churches are not forced to marry anyone that does not meet their particular definition (divorcees, same-sex couples, etc).

Weak. Marriage is a union between two consenting adults. At least other opponents of gay marriage come right out and blame their beliefs on their religion. When interracial marriage was made illegal people used the same arguments. They were weak then and they're weak now.

you know...not so long back, black people werent allowed to drink at the same fountains as whites...so there were two fountains...one for blacks and one for whites. Love is a human emotion that most humans should be able to enjoy. It is truly caring for somewhere, regardless of their orientation, ethnicity, or background. All love is equal in the sense of intimacy. Being gay just means that a person loves people of the same sex the same amount, maybe more, as a straight person does to someone of the opposite sex.
