How do you figure the Federalists were for states rights? It was the anti-federalists who got the bill of rights added including the 10th amendment. I am curious as to what you meant by that. The person I am finding very interesting is the anti-federalist Patrick Henry. Some of the things he said are unbelieveably prescient.
TJ is ignorant he wasnt aware of a lot, how could the whiskey rebellion violate the Constitution when the Constitution did not yet exsist. The significance whiskey rebellion was that it showed the flaws of the article of confederation and therefore the need for the Constitution.
Jefferson did say something like that , that the law is for the living but TJ took it out of context. Jefferson was also afraid that the mob 51% would vote away the other 49% rights.
The whole issue of "states rights" has become moot. In this day and age, nobody is voting for Senators who will represent their state's best interests. They are voting for their stances on national issues. The Senatorial system and the electoral college are outdated artifacts of a time when Congressmen and Senators actually cared about and represented what was best for their state and their was a real threat of larger states trying to obtain some political or economic advantage over smaller
You're always insightful dude. I think the debate between strict constructionalist and the more loose interpretations will continue to change as society changes.
@moonshot926 Thanks? And who is calling whom a "dumbass?" You would to well to look up sarcasm in the dictionary...that's the big book with a lot of words in alphabetical order.

@sonvolt48 TJ does not understand that the constitution has been amended 17 times. Last time was 1992. It will never be outdated.

@moonshot926 Thanks for proving my point. You might want to use "the google" to find out the number of Constitutional amendments.
