Mays's career is going down the crapper as we speak. All the predictions of him being first round talent seem incorrect as the 49ers are already shopping him around to other teams as trade bait. Check ESPN to verify... he is fast. He is fast on his way to being back on the bench or out of the league.
Taylor Mays is damn fast, but nobody seems to realize he had less distance to cover. Mays is 3 yds off the line of scrimmage, Best is 7 yds off, and they pretty much meet at the line. It was definitely a great play by Mays...just sayin.
That's the quarterback's fault. When you see safeties lined up right behind defensive ends and 10 men in the box you've got to audible to a play fake or play action to a quick curl or slant or a short out or possibly a screen, but you can't run the ball in that situation.

I've been a highschool defensive coordinator for 3 years now, and I agree with you completely. a FS should help out in run support once the running back makes it past the second level (LBs). However, if I see my FS making the tackle on a dive play, my Mike Backer is going to spend some quality lunch on the bench for not taking care of it. Dive plays are on the LBs. It was a failure if the FS has to make the tackle.

1. Both had angles they had to make up for, but yes Best was at a worse angle relative to the first down marker.
2. Best had the advantage of a head start and knowing the play. You have to factor in acceleration, reaction time, and Mays' change of direction, which in this case, largely compensates for the extra yard and a half of depth Best had to make up. You can clearly see that he's out in front of Taylor and moving before Taylor has a chance to react.

You have to know about Darren McFadden, he started out like that, and folks labeled him "bust" like they did Reggie Bush, and then look, all the sudden he started running people the hell over.You can't say he will never make it, we don't know that, he has the physical ability we see that. But that's a tough player, guys like him get underestimated about that very often.

I've been a highschool defensive coordinator for 3 years now, and I agree with you completely. a FS should help out in run support once the running back makes it past the second level (LBs). However, if I see my FS making the tackle on a dive play, my Mike Backer is going to spend some quality lunch on the bench for not taking care of it. Dive plays are on the LBs. It was a failure if the FS has to make the tackle.

1. Both had angles they had to make up for, but yes Best was at a worse angle relative to the first down marker.
2. Best had the advantage of a head start and knowing the play. You have to factor in acceleration, reaction time, and Mays' change of direction, which in this case, largely compensates for the extra yard and a half of depth Best had to make up. You can clearly see that he's out in front of Taylor and moving before Taylor has a chance to react.
