  • It would be better if you used double sided tape,if you get me. Than no tape would be seen.

  • Elegant.

  • Ive been wanting to learn this for sometime now. I still cant keep the paper tight.. ugg!

  • Cool!

  • You are a genius.

  • I remember seeing this wrapping style when I went shopping during Christmas in Japan. I loved watching them wrap gifts. They were really fast and it turned out really nice! Ever since I left though, I forgot how they did it. Thanks for the video!

  • I tried this out & it was perfect. Thank you.

  • This is pretty cool, but my attempts to wrap something this way has failed multiple times and my back hurts now.

  • Could you be anymore vague?? Any help with getting the paper size right?

  • @abhorsen1989 I could probably be a lot more vague. I don't have a formula or anything for measuring the paper - just try wrapping it around the box before you start, and if it looks like it will cover it, it probably will. Err on the side of having too much paper.

  • Whats the point.. it's going to be ripped off anyways :S

  • @MrAbortionClinic What's the point of doing anything when we're all going to die anyway?

  • @MrAbortionClinic dis is out of the blue but u got played lol

  • @GodzillaGamingTV Played? sorry what, I genuinely don't understand why put more effort for the same result? And as far as life is concerned, why put anything in? because if we didn't we'd die much earlier than what we would have, checkmate. @uminobara

  • Thanks you for posting this. Only thing I think you should mention is that when placing the corner of the package on the paper it should not be at a 45 degree offset in relation to the length paper but probably half that. I tried 3 times, thinking my paper wasn't big enough.

  • lovely tutorial. Thanks!

  • Seems like a lot of extra work and has the same outcome as the easy-peasy American version...I'll stick to the easy way...its very good video, though.Thank you.

  • Looks very nice Im so tempted to try it

  • It's taking too long for yu to wrap that gift., dang I would have had it wrap in less than 2 min.! Just kidding...I can't wrap like that! :0

  • It's a very "neat" technique, but my Grandmother use to do that with out the use of tape! Are you Japanese? Do you know the technique I'm referring to? Personally I NEVER mastered the skill, I.e. wrapping a gift PICTURE PERFECT and "without" the use of tape! Shame on us! I sometimes will "Cheat" and USe Craft Glue (The Spray type). It is so FAST! But, I would LOVE to know how my Granny "gift wrapped all her gifts without the use of Tape, glue, etc. I also could never find her seams.

  • @Eseercam Hehe, cool! I'm not Japanese, I learned this from the Japanese tea company I worked for...they taught us to use tape, I guess because we're lame Americans. ^^; It would be easy enough to not use the first 2 pieces of tape and only use the last one, but...I don't know how you'd forgo that last piece!

  • Awesome! Thank you! I always watch the Japanese salesgirl wrap but could never really follow the steps. Now I can! Arigatou

  • wow I really like the way that was wraped and btw yes if you keep on practicing like you probebly did then you will get a lot better, now once again I really really liked the way that was wraped.!!

  • Such a pretty and creative way to wrap a gift :D Used less paper, by the looks of it :D I'll use this technique when wrapping up items for my Etsy shop customers :D Danke!

  • amazing love it

  • "its really important to use good quality paper, otherwise it will rip"

    CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

lol anyways this is a really cool way to wrap! thanks so much for the video!

  • @psshion Fk yeah, Challenge Accepted.

  • whats the point if it gonna be wrap anyway

  • how to you know what size the paper should be?

  • like it have you done anything complicated that stands out ?

  • Very cool, I will never wrap the American way ever again unless it's not a box. In which case I shall stick the gift in a bag :)

    Nice video!

  • This is such a beautiful way of wrapping a gift! I love to wrap gifts especially around the holidays and I'm always insearch of new styles to try. I can't wait to try this out. Thank you for sharing this!!

  • i did this wrapping for my mom cuz i thought it would be nice to try it out on my moms birthday gift it came out really nice and she said what kind of wrapping is this then i told her it was japanese wrapping she said that its nicer then the american way lol love it

  • lol very creative and clear i done it b4 too!!

  • i thought japanese style wrapping dont need to use tape at all o_o

  • @uohecc Yep, you're right. This is the way the company I worked for taught us ham-fisted Americans how to do it. :p

  • @uohecc Japanese wrap using both paper and cloth. So the ones that are wrapped in paper use tape but those wrapped in cloth dont need tape, they use tie knots. Very useful.

  • @uohecc I would have used at least 8 pieces of tape the way I usually wrap, so 3 is pretty good!

  • I wrap my presents in plastic bags, because I handout BULL SHIT!

  • Wow! I am terrible at gift wrapping, in fact I just avoid it all together. Glad I saw this video. Looks a little difficult, but the end result is worth it. Thanks.

  • Nice !!

  • I found this video extremely helpful. I've been to Japan numerous times. On many occassions while purchasing gifts, I would try to observe the manner in which store clerk would gift wrap the item, but was always unsuccessful in duplicating it. It was only a year ago after watching your video that I was able to successfully wrap gifts using this technique. I should say it requires some practice to do it well. But once you've mastered the technique, it is really very easy.

  • think i just lost a brain cell.

  • ill try that gift wrapping

    it seems simple

    yet its really complicated

    thanks for sharing!

    btw outstanding job! :D

  • Don't you hate it when (in the UK at least) you have to PAY for gift-wrapping?? And especially if its something ridiculous like 3 POUNDS!! John Lewis gave me that bullshit just the other day.

In Japan gift-wrapping is free! Some stores should learn that its not necessary to make a profit on every damn thing!!

  • i didnt get it

  • Thanks! Practiced wrapping with some newspapers and now I've got a new skill. Thank you for sharing! =D

  • too complicated. Ill stick to the default wrapping

  • tooo awesome thanks!! I will try this out soon.

    Gift wrapping is not easy.

There is a movie on You Tube.

    made by shadowyn films

that shows a funny story of a guy trying to wrap a gift.

    title: The Perfect Gift

Title: Wintertide---giving gifts in fantasy world

    Title; Soul Searching-

  • I have just tried to do this, and it is virtually impossible with the shit wrapping paper that is sold in the UK, we haven't got a clue in this country.

  • Hah, yeah, you can't really do it with regular US wrapping paper, either, it just tears when you do the folds. Try going to a nice paper shop and getting a sheet of proper paper. :)

  • * for fatter / shorter boxes, the concept is entirely the same (the box edge must still stick out over at edge at the start) - just feel your way around - it seems like u may need more paper too *

  • i did it~ with a more fatter n shorter box too - damn it looked gd; i felt like i actually LEARNT sometg out of the "giving experience" thx!!

  • this is so pretty

  • this is incredibly cool there were like 50 creases in that bitches shit!

  • I think this is a great way to wrap if you don't like cutting different sizes of paper out of your gift wrap roll and have excess paper left over. Some have complained it wastes more paper but if you think about it unless you have a use for the leftover paper you cut for that same shape box its wasted anyways. Every situation is different of course.

There must be a method to the points in which you fold and initial sizes to start to master this technique.Worth a try for me this year.

  • Very nice. It does use up more paper than regular gift wrapping, but I like the way the finished wrap looks.

  • @3moirai

There's another video on youtube that shows another example of how to wrap this way. It's in Japanese though, but interesting to watch nonetheless.

    Reference video: tnDzQoRXf8I

  • My only hangup is the scotchtape. Use doublesticking tape and hide it underneath the paper for that extra little touch.

  • I did it!!! It was first wraping in my life:)))

  • is that all? very simple..

  • Such a waste of time. Wasted a bunch of paper trying to do this with a different sized box! Would've been nice of you to explain how to wrap different sizes.

  • i've got a square box which i'm desperately trying to wrap this way but i can't do it... can u tell me how to do it for a square box?

great job btw, i absolutely love how it would look when it's done ^^

  • very very very nice :) i like a lot :)

    Thanks

  • this is a different n fascinating way of wrapping a gift~!

    thanks for the teachings! ;D

  • Very nice! I will have to try this. I just learned (and mastered) the art of folding a shirt Japanese style; now I need to work on this new skill! :-)

  • i agree about it being elegant, however hope you would not mind doing a video on a box with dimensions roughly with a ratio of 2:2:1 , something like that. And there's quite a significant difference bewteen this style and the ones done professionaly which look plain boring and too easy. A little bit of complications is fun !! =)

  • It's been a long time I was looking for a video about japanese-style gift wrapping and I love how you explained it step by step. I too would be very interested in a LxWxH formula if you know it. =)

Thanks for sharing and do not listen to haters - this is a very elegant way to wrap gifts!

  • Thank you so much for sharing this wonderfully elegant way of wrapping a present with essentially one piece of tape. I saw this done everywhere in Japan and always wondered how it was done. Two questions: Is there a formula knowing LxWxH for how one selects the size of the paper to use. Also, I'm currently having trouble wrapping a small square package, about 4x4 inches. Any suggestions? Thanks again!

  • douche.

  • simpy shows ur ignorant.

  • its complicated but interesting.. thx!

  • I wanted to do my Christmas wraps like this, only found you today :-(

Looks really nice with the no folds at the side, but uses lots of paper, lol.

  • The instructions should be more descriptive. "Fold corner like this" doesn't help as much as describing what you mean when you say "like this". For instance, in the beginning when you describe how to lay the box on the paper, is it important that the box lines up with any of the sides? I got lost during the first corner.

  • That part is actually difficult at first for most people who try to do this. And as long as you have it slanted with the corner hanging off and you can wrap the paper around, it should work. Just keep trying. :)

  • that is f-ing fantastic girl!! it's christmas eve and i'm going to wrap my mothers gift this way!!! it will freak her out tomorrow morning lol!!!

    thanks

  • If you don't like it, don't watch it. If you find it was a waste of time, then move on and don't comment to let everybody know that you watched it.

This comment is rubbish and doesn't make you look intelligent. Don't make anymore of these comments. :)

  • Your wit surpasses your intelligence. Which isn't much of a feat, considering.

Children shouldn't be allowed on the internet.

  • Thats exactly the way we wrap our expensive alchohol in boxes like Chandon cool.

  • Nice. My sister-in-law used to something like that with no tape at all. I have been trying to find instructions like that - any pointers? This looks nice though and I think the look is worth the effort. COuld you do one with a small square box?

  • As mentioned before, you only really need the last piece of tape. :3 There is a slightly different method when you wrap a small square box. Hmm, I'll see about getting another video up sometime. ;)

  • creari, I didn't give ratings to anyone. I think those are done by other users.

Patzy, you're right! This is the way I was shown at work...I guess they thought us Americans needed some extra tape. :p

  • Haha, but posting this comment WASN'T a pointless waste of time? :p

  • cool! it looks so flawless! Of course you've practiced this alot.

  • awesome video! =)

  • Does this work with a square box !!!!

  • OMG I dont really know if I can do this but Im definetely gonna try!!!

Maybe I have to do at the same time I watch the video but Thanks a Lot!!!

  • japanese style wrapping makes use of only one sticky tape. And that is at the final fold. But good wrapping though!

  • I'm doing this for christmas

  • You waste a lot of paper wrapping this way!!

  • @cravena70 and time... who actually does this? haha.

  • WOW. THIS is REALLY COOL.

  • SWEET!!THNX

  • i still prefer the traditional wraps

  • Wow. This video changed my life.

  • lol

  • Wow! I like the creasing and folding part! =) Real neat but it takes up the entire sheet of the paper all right. Still, I love it. Thank you for sharing. =)
