Why are people so worried about the food wasted??? Maybe they do use some of it, but really just a week's worth of food for 1 person really isn't a huge waste.... It'll be like 100-150 pounds of food, that is a extremely small amount compared to what it costs to make any TV programme...!!!! AGHHH it's not a big deal.
