@gorkoleman I think you put your finger on something important. Carrying the EU Green Capital title implies demonstrating leadership in the field of the Green Economy and Agenda21, and it should embrace indicating the challenges and demonstrating yet again leadership in how such issues are dealt with at an EU Green Capital. Sustainability is recognizing issue and tackling them, not rubbing them under a marketing-rug. This should indeed become a more visible criteria for winning.
Can you share the script of this video? There are too many numbers and figures. 613 hectares greenbelt, 210 organic farming plots today 360 organic plots tomorrow, 2 tram lines, what else? Thumbs up please. Congratulations to Vitoria-Gasteiz
The city's award-winning urban design, its environment, and its lively social initiatives together with its first-class services, and cultural and sporting activities, make Vitoria one of the capitals with the highest standard of living in Spain. In fact, Vitoria is ranked second in standard of living among all the cities in Spain, and first as to green areas(in fact known as the greenest city in Europe) and cultural places
Study abroad in northern Spain! Vitoria is the perfect blend of old Spanish history with young and modern development. It boasts one of Spain's highest standards of living thanks to its array of cultural activities, its beautiful surroundings, and its excellent services. Vitoria,(named European green capital) as yet untouched by mass-tourism, allows you to discover the marvel of the fusion between the solid strength of the past and the energetic power of the future.
@XJorgeLorenzoSpain1X it sounds much more selective then most places. This is a beautiful video, I envy people in the Basque Country, so many acres of unspoit land and beauty & historically interesting too :)
And to finish with Nantes, this airport will cost a lot of money because the land used is over wetlands and will request huge amount of works and amenities to stabilize the ground. It will be build built over a top of a hill with, a lot of small rivers are having their wells in here, so there is a big risk of water pollution too.
And no rail link is even planned to link it from downtown ...
Anyway Congratulation for you Vitoria-Gasteiz, and shame on us in Nantes !
In Nantes, a new airport is under construction, arguing the actual one is to small and arguing the traffic will increase in the 25 coming years, but the studies just "forgot" to take in consideration the increasing prices of petroleums and increasing use of high-speed trains ... The actual planes are small only 50 seats for most of the flights and even not complete, so before getting a brand new bigger airport, just increase the size of the planes if necessary !
In Nantes, the waste recycling exists only for 3 years while of the French cities set it 10 years ago and even more. Plus it is not actually really efficient and will not cover the whole city, almost inner districts in fact. And the system is not encouraging the people to sort and select the wastes and decrease them.
In Nantes, the cars park along the roads higgledy-piggledy in complete disrespect of the French road code and completely allowed by the city. Plus the seats are out of the norms smaller than the official norms, as a result, the cars are oversteping on the streets ...
Still Nantes, the parks and ride are free and most of the users are not riding buses or tramways.
There are almost non amenities to ride bicycles, when there are, they can be very dangerous. The city is not encouraging the use of urban bicycles and has no real bicycle policies like in London for example.
Unlike Vitoria-Gasteiz, carying a bike in tramways is simply forbidden you can even get a penalty !
For the transportation network, there are almost no buses or tramways after 8.00 PM, and on sunday there are very few bus and tramways. The transportation network, especially at night and sundays, is only converging downtown forbidding mobility between outer districts.
The buses are not clean just standard Euro 4/5 diesel buses, with no sound notification onboard.
The transportation network is limited to the limits of the city.
@XJorgeLorenzoSpain1X wow! Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spains impressive Basque Country looks beautifully lush, economic and environmentally healthy. The air quality must be very good too! The beautiful trees, arable land, green areas, bicycles, trams and elegant architecture makes Vitoria-Gasteiz look so appealing, refreshing, hygenic and healthy and a safe place to live. There must be a lot of wildlife around too. The rest of the planet needs to catch up fast!
@scarletjamable yea Vitoria is a gem about to be discovered(about time btw)..good,classy,friendly n civic people who make sure their city is "dolled up" n clean. Some people call Vitoria a garden where houses have been croppin up.(Its near Pamplona the city where the running of the bulls takes place)
