In the former video, Beck opines that gay marriage is a secret attempt to "attack churches," and in the latter, he hosts a panel of "experts" that state, among other things, that Obama will institute one-party rule, create a dictatorship, and turn the country into Calcutta. But those are all well-reasoned, logical opinions.

@bs17 The Church argument makes sense. Gay marriage poses a real threat to freedom of religion. With the new hate crime laws, Churches are now limited with what they can say about gays, which may seem reasonable, but where does it end? In Great Britain, the government has closed Catholic-run orphanages because they don't allow gays to adopt kids - it's against their religion. Religious leaders there can be hassled by the government for simply stating biblical positons on homosexuality.

Churches have nothing to do with the issuing of state marriage licenses; they perform ceremonial weddings on a VOLUNTARY basis, which is precisely why Beck's argument is a ridiculous conspiracy theory.

Bush declared he had the unilateral right to wiretap Americans without warrant and detain Americans without trial...I'd say those actions more than sniff of martial law, in contrast to Obama.

@bs17 Civil marriage licenses are something I would support, provided Churches and individuals have the right to disagree - but would it really stop there? Wouldn't some in the LGBT community continue to advocate for marriage? Wouldn't they continue to protest and yes, attack, Churches that didn't support their lifestyle? It's essentially a slippery slope argument, and an informed one, given the current state of affairs in Britain and Canada.

@jimbad05 Yes, it would really stop there -- churches have Constitutional rights under the first amendment that allow them to exclude people from their congregations. That sort of freedom of association has been upheld numerous times by the courts for all sorts of organizations. Furthermore, I doubt many LGBT people would want to be married in a hostile church that was forced to recognize them.

As more and more Churches give in to LGBT demands, I fear traditional Churches could someday become a hated minority institution. Furthermore, what about religious orphanages?
