  • Such a classic! I mean it never gets old for me!

    One of the bestest ever!

  • What a great song...what a great time in my life!

  • I love this song......Takes me back to my high school days.....Love it!

  • I looove this song. I googled it and found his other songs. I don't think that artists realize the impact their songs have and the memories associated with them. I Loooooooove this song and his voice is GREAT!

  • young people have no idea what music is today..just rap and other junk....will this ever come back? maybe in a couple of generations...

  • @justcruzzinn I don't think it entirely "left" I see alot of the younger generation listening to it. My 8 year old knows Deep Purple ,Stones , etc... and hates the new music "rap crap" stuff of today. This kind of music is classic and will be here forever! : )

  • Forever young - Chris & us.

  • Love this!! This makes me want to go back in time. Please!!

  • They don't make em like this anymore - great song from a great era of MUSIC.

  • Another magical song of the 70's. I need a time machine-I was 18 when this song came out. I would have even more fun if I could go back.

  • what a great voice

  • funny how you haven't heard a song in 30 yrs...but it takes you right back...and you can remember the words...sort of...lol

  • back in the day when musical artists weren't pre-packaged pop stars, when true talent came from within, not some record company's pr department

  • He looks like Barry Manilow's younger brother.

  • @majorsynth I reiterate - he is/was MUCH too cute to be compared to or relalated to Barry Manilow!

  • In Arica.. Chile I was 18.. What a memories on my youngest years...Fall in love with Maritza Schurter.. where are you girl? I remember times in High school ..using grease in my hair ..But this song got me so much feeling to make love with Maritza!

  • ive heard two versions of this by him-god im so heartsick for the seventies.maybe im just getting old...

  • @jeromehazelwood Great tunes are ageless, friend.

  • who isnt heart sick for the 70s....frankly, I was not into youtube before...im like who wants to watch a video of my kids or me doing nothing? Wow. was I wrong....the classics this preserves....Midnight Special show in the 70s....

Rhetorical question: What was the #1 song when you were born? What was your mom listening to on the way to the hospital? Fun to know...

  • GREAT SONG!!!

  • great singing

  • You are the best.... beautiful song ever!!!!!

  • yet another beautiful lost track of the REAL decade of music! thx for the post mate! you made a sleepless night that much better.

  • Make that "Road to Hell" not "Highway to Hell".

  • Pretty song but his best was a song called "On the Beach". Also check out "Highway to Hell". Don't think I'll ever get tired of hearing his music.

  • Oh he's so much cuter than Barry Manilow!

  • He looks like Barry Manilow here.

  • Great singer, we need performers like him today.

  • this is good, grst by chris. thanks chris, you are one of the best. cheers mucka

  • Di Rea was his sister. Her full name was Diane Rea.

  • fjdflakjflkfjlkjf

  • Funny to see him at the piano because he's known as a helluva blues guitar player.

  • @burpo multi-talented man!

  • Who is the hottie in the football jersey

  • Thumbs up, if you think this is a great song for people who had heart broken.

  • @matricfail I have to agree with you been there done that!!!!

  • Beautiful melody. I never knew he was British. It makes sense because they write nearly all the most memorable pop music.

  • One of the best love songs ever, and one of the best male vocal performances ever. Top 10. Thanks for the great blend of music and words, Chris. It brings tears to the eyes when I hear the beauty of the melody.

  • I cried when I heard this song back in the day. I just had a break-up

Today it still brought tears to my eyes.

    Tears of joy.

  • I had just graduated high school and was starting college when this came out. I had no idea what i wanted to do with my life then. Some days now, i still feel the same way.......but this song is timeless. Hats off to Chris Rea. Love you, man.

  • Lip-synched to the studio track, but the strings are mixed out for this TOTP appearance. Very clever.

  • @kfollis09 What?

  • jimmy fallon's twin brother

  • He's currently on a UK tour

  • chris rea is the living king of rock! er,is he still out there? i wanna hear more of this guy-wow!

  • Why can't I buy this song?

  • Relationships never end, because every relationship with someone else is really a relationship with yourself.

  • I'm 45...a musician...and lived through the punk rock era.Punk rock had it's own movement, mindset & sound....Chris Rea had nothing to do with the influence of Punk.

  • I'm guessing lush89 was being facetious, in that punk started as a rebellion against this music. If he/she actually believes that, then I'm guessing he/she was actually born in 1989 and forgot about the Clash, Sex Pistols and the Ramones, all of which came into prominence prior to Chris Rea.

  • check de ' roel if you think it's over cover by elles springs'

  • Punk rock started because of stuff like this

  • @lush89 How in the heck do you figure?

  • @lush89 You're a freakin ignorant. You don't

even know what punk rock is, nor when it started or

    the reasons why it started.

  • you tell that fool chris

  • Wonderful - beautiful!

  • 7000000000000000 the best music ever!!!

  • @marieuge agree!

  • makes me want to fall in love when i hear this song

  • i love this song! Chris seems so thoughtful....a lot of insight.

  • "I'll buy your first good wine

We'll have a real good time"

Man does this bring back happy memories!

  • Absolutely incredible song, a gem from the 70s

  • Tells a great story

  • ! wow what a song! I match any of these called singers from today to match this song.

  • Lady Gaga does not like this music.

  • buena cancion

  • I feel so fortunate to be from this generation of this fantastic music! Thank Chris Rea for this beautiful song!

  • Lindo este vídeo, lembra a minha época de moça. Muito romântico e me faz muito bem à alma!

    Regina Kreft

  • 70's and 80's best music ever even if most were one hit wonders. Good feeling stuff, thanks for posting!!

  • What a great song, still one of my favorites from the best time of my life.......Its a shame what this world has come to.....

  • I'm with you wrsawy... it's just not the same anymore... manufactured rubbish is what is on offer and they suck it up like sugar...

    ?

  • more cowbell!!!!!

  • There's my first love, Janet Taylor on the dance floor right next to the stage!!!!

She was 17 and I loved her; I was a fool to lose her....

  • I am 53 and I have listened to this song since it came out in 1978 and went to number 12 on the charts, should have went higher,

  • late 70s ruled

  • @DrRonPaul :(:(

  • ,your right about that !, let's go back and party there sometime when my time machine if finished.

  • @PupuTheClown i wanna come with!

  • @DrRonPaul,

    Late 70's?...

    ALL 70's...

From about mid 1968 to mid 1982 a whole lot of stuff was great.

  • This never gets old!!!!!!!!! Thanks Lily! I just ordered two of his albums.

  • I have the album called new light through old windows with all his classic hits and it gets a flogging.

  • I sure this also!!!!!!!!!! oh god

  • ohh!!! OOOH!! LOOOKIT HERE WHAT I FOUND!!! REMEMBER THIS SONG Y'ALL!!?

  • I love that it was no big deal when 3 guys 1:20 danced together on the dance floor back then.

  • I heard this song for the first time when I was 60. I'm close to being 62 and still love this song. Chris' voice is so soothing and sexy. You got me beat by a few years, Savonh. I have his CD on in my car while I drive. I'm wearing it out. Love you, Chris!

  • I was 51 when I first heard this song and album, just got married (lasted 9 months but this was a gift from my then husband ) and I fell in love with life and freedom. That is what this music does to me. Each time I put on this album I get up and dance my heart away. I am 64 now and still listen to it and get up an dance. Chris is a very special person who has an incredible voice. His lyrics are incredible. Thank you Michael for this wonderful gift. You set me free on so many levels.

  • Chris makes such feeling " LOVE"

  • This one makes me feel like crying..... especially seeing him so you and such a hottie....I cannot believe how much I really loved his music and then lost track of it... It is amazing how we let life's problems take over and we loose that what we truely love....Love you Chris...

  • Only those in Love , have this impossible sense of Hope.

  • Graduated from high school in '78 too... (actually a year early). I have always loved this song!!

  • 1978- the year I graduated from High School. Ahhh the 70's.. THE best music & a much simpler time.

  • Why can't I buy this song anywhere/

  • @123123GIR123123 I'm wondering the same thing! You can buy in on a CD at Amazon and Deep Discount.

  • Love it.......GREAT!!!!!!! Thank Chris

  • i never knew he did this song,Ive know him for ,the road to hell and Texas. Most people look @ me when i say this guy dose some great rock blues music.

if you have'nt hear road to hell or Texas take a listen.reminds me of Arlington.

  • Thanks canine lover...

  • Still love this song that

    much after light eyes (70s)

  • Still love this song that much after light eyes (70s)

  • The hand held percussion instrument is called a "cabasa."

  • sounds like david sylvian

  • what is the small hand held percussion instrument ?

  • The guy he really looks like is Danny Bonaduce of the partridge family. You think?

  • @albertito006 I said the same thing a while ago! He does look like Danny big time!

  • Okay, first of all, thanx for posting this vid. Second: Barry Manilow? Uhn-uh. It costs a lot and copies are rare, but get a hold of Whatever Happened to Benny Santini on CD. Had it on vinyl for years. Mr. Rea does some smokin' blues rockers, country pop, and sophisticated jazz fusion. He is no lightweight, but no killer either. If you like a good, diversified artist 70s style, there is a lot more to Rea than this wonderful song. Personal fave from the WHTBS? "One of Those Days."

  • I watching it right now, definitely more Barry Manilow than the others. :)

  • I kind of saw a cross between Barry Manilow and a young Martin Short or maybe James Spader...I definitely see Fallon though. LOL, it's looks like a Late Night show parody.

  • Ah, he forget the word head

  • Chris, you're such a cutie pie!

  • I need to buy this song....but I can't find it on itunes. any suggestions?

  • @kahlua57 4shared.com... get real

  • @kahlua57 I just checked & Amazon.com carries the CD this song was on (the best of Chris Rea) not much in the way of music that can't be found there I've discovered.

  • I remember hearing this song on the radio in the summer of 78, when I found out my 13 year old neighbor, a year older than me at the time, had died in an accident. She was very beautiful, the accident was so tragic, and almost killed her parents. I had a big crush on her, and every time I hear this song I think of her.

  • He looks like a cross between Barry Manilow and Steve Hackett. Good song,by the way.

  • CR music has this grit in his voice that just makes his music attractive, besides he writes all his own music, there is a soul and spirit in each piece of his music, Im am a long time fan....

  • all i need in life is this song and my top 2 shows that 70s show and famley guy and a good old chocolate fudge browne milk shake

  • 6 people are really handicapped persons.

  • @NoOneIsLikeWinona I think that 6 peoples likes hip hop very much. :/

  • Man, his voice and his looks sure don't match!

  • @58936865233

you are to be called as limited in the ways of eye appeal.

  • @NoOneIsLikeWinona yeah maybe lol. he just looks so young and goofy here, and he has such a gruff kinda voice.

  • Great song!

  • @asmb310-I agree! I am 38 and like it!!!

  • Sure tugs at the heartstrings..Chris Rea rules!

  • Chris Rea's voice brings out not only lovely sounds when he sings,he is also a very expressive artist with the lyrics of the song..Chris's talent is an inborn gift not something that can be taught or learned..Oh yea not to forget the 64 year old jumper..You are a lovely sight to see jumping to the music that has obviously got you in in the clouds..Keep it up.. 64 is not old it's the new 54,haven't you heard?!!

  • this sure does take me back....i was 21 in '78, bitter sweet times. There's something about Chris' voice and this song that transports me back and I just go "ahhhhhhh". Music got me through alot, through life. And yes, the 70s were so special and unique.

  • I was 19 years old and a sophomore at Louisiana State University when this was a hit. A slight chill in the October air, homework, parties, football, and dear friends-where are they now? I'm 50 now and this song brings back those sweet, painful memories.

  • I'll always remember walks in Kingwood Center and the OSU campus when I hear this...sweet sweet innocent love...true to the end and then some...xot

  • Tickles the eardrums just PERFECT! Awesome Sound!

  • Chris has been a highly underrated artist. His songs in the eighties and early nineties were great. I was highly influenced by him and Mark Knopfler. If you want, click MrAlvarda down below and check my songs.

  • Geat album, great era for music and talent...

  • So, when they saw a football shirt like the one on the guitarist #26 in the UK, did they refer to it as an "American Football" shirt? Or did other sports also have shirts that looked like that back then?

  • You might think this song was written by today's youth.

They keep calling each other 'fooll'

    Always enjoyed the song!

  • Wow...summer '78. Beach, school break, and waxing my van on a hot SoCal afternoon. Music works wonders with memories.

  • @TVWriterGuy "Music works wonders with memories." So True!!!!

  • @TVWriterGuy said "Music works wonders with memories".

    Yes it does!!!

  • Reminds me of when I was little. Great tune!

  • Oh, I wish I could have had my "first good wine" with him!

  • He kinda looks like Julian Lennon...even like John too

  • just doesn't get any better than this!!

  • yeah we were suppose to get better with time but look around at the music today....yuck! rap crap and britney oh please

  • Why'd Chris record it in 2 different keys? The album version was recorded in D. He hit #12 in Billboard, 9-16-78. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Chris was a bit of a 'fool' for not tourin' the US.

  • This song is danced to a TANGO..

  • I sure miss the 70's 2011 sucks.

  • @wrsawy his talent was there. period. still is. cute little shit when i was in high school in 1978.

  • @wrsawy Amen to you! The 60s, 70s, and SOME of the 80s. Don't let my name fool you!

  • love this song!!!!! The 70's had such great songs!

  • Every so often I have to listen, and watch, Chris sing this song. What a wonderful song. It's got a nice "hook" to it. Really, really, like this song.

  • He kind of looks like Jimmy Fallon with a wig on.

  • @kodiakfred140 Barry Manilow more like!

  • 6 people think it's over...

  • Felt like rains touching my heart

  • Chris Rea rocks!

The song is solid, we will be listening to it years down the road!

  • The best version of this song. Thank you!

  • Oh, yeah

  • Great stuff

  • No matter the number of years or decades that pass, a beautiful song, always touches the heart & pain within us. Great song, great singer !

  • I've only recently discovered Chris Rea's music and I just loooove him! Will he ever come to Canada? What a talent! He looks like such a sweet and nice person.

  • He was part of Climax blues band when he made this song and I think it was a cool song and still think that way today

  • Is it possible to get the same feelings from today's songs as we got from then. Not possible I say!!!

  • ouffffda that is puckin good........

  • i love the old daysss

  • LOVE...LOVE this video...Kudos

  • roy west

  • womderful! masterpeaces :-)

  • Besides Road to Hell, Chris never had much of a presence in the States, which bums me out. I didn't really pick up on him until 10 years ago, so glad I did. On The Beach is such a great tune!

  • @princeofgary

My ex boyfriend got me into this guy. He's fabulous! I can't get enough of him!!!

  • One of my faves from the late 1970's.

Nice mellow song, not too mushy -- just right.
