Why in the hell are all the people complaining about working on the cruise ships? If you dont like it quit...Nothing more need be said in a lot of cases tips are already figured into the cost of the ticket...If you dont like it quit. I work 12 months a year 7 days a week 18 hour days most time...If I dont like it I can quit...But a job is a job and want my family to eat to. So stop with the krap If a person pays good money the last thing they want to here is you crying...Do your job and STFU
Disney Cruise Line ships are the best looking cruise ships today. Disney spent a fortune on the interior and exterior design of their ships. Most cruise lines ignore the exterior design while Disney stressed good design.
I'm about to book a trip for next year. I can't wait to feel the sun! I did most of my research online. I'd say the best info I found was on cruisesforthefamily (.) com
i agree 100%... disney dominates.. there is now cruise line or theme park industry that beats it.. and when you hear poeple saying that they hate it, then they obviosly havent experienced it.
Nobody can beat the Disney Cruise Line! Not even Royal Carribean & Carnival. I traveled on the Disney Wonder last month (July 2009) for the four night trip and it was awesome! Even though it rained a little bit Disney always makes it fun! Oh ya don't forget about their horn! Now that's by far the best ever horn!
seadreamll please dont listen to willychilli he has probably never been on it trust me it is sooo cool i have beed on the boat hes liying nobody complained the crew even said they loved their job so plese try the magic or the wonder i reccomend the wonder
rosalinaband: I am nor talking as passenger; i'm talking about working conditions for crew. I was in Fincantieri, Italy, for the maiden voyage on 1998 working more than 12 hours a day doing carpets and painting even when my contract was on the Fodd and Beverage Dept.
I've also worked on RCL, Celebrity, DCL and Princess so please trust in what I'm saying
Let me get this straight: you've worked on numerous cruise ships, all of which sucked and took unfair advantage of you, underpaid you, basically made you their slave, and yet YOU KEPT WORKING ON ONE SHIP AFTER ANOTHER without getting the point that maybe you should try something else, and people should take what you say seriouslY???? Hell, if I worked in an industry that treated me like chattel, I'd leave the first moment I could. Something is fishy about you, brother.
@PirateEyepatch I'm now working with DCL.... it's great... Had no idea what the heck that "willychili" is talking about.... I mean yes it's a hard work but well paid tho.
At least you were not in the military where they throw you in yail for trying to leave. If I have the freedom to leave then I leave and look for a better job. Why torture yourself. You were treated like a slave and you probably convinced yourself that you were a slave. Before you know it they throw you in a wooden ship.
Because the whole ship was a pain in the ass for crew and passengers, first of all a big delay on the delivery from Fincantieri, second on the first cruise the peolple was complaining even because of the ship doesn't have a casino...Hello!!!. The itineraries are crap and the working conditions for crew were awful (ship is registered in the Bahamas, in other words under flag of convenience). I hope I answered your question
QM2 is a nice ship but too fancy for me. It seems to me that you aren't a cruiser because there is a big difference between Disney Cruise Line and Cunard. How old are you? I can give you some advises
Hello Willy. There are MANY ships registered in Bahamas or other countries with poor legislation of certain things like working conditions. But there are classification societies (Lloyds Of London , Det Norske Veritas , and several others) which take care off all the technical stuff. I can give you a long briefing on how this works if you wants to. I do have a captains certificate.. QM2 is one of the most beautiful passenger ships sailing the world today. I miss SS Norway
Hi Travelguy, I agree with you in every single aspect; what I meant is the poor working conditions for crew members (I've been crew on RCI, Celebrity, DCL and Princess), ie. a crew from Chine works at least 10 months without even seeing the day light for a tinny salary. Waiters received US$50.- a month as salary, the rest come from tips (suggested)so if pax doesn't tip, the company doesn't care. I wish I could talk deeply about it; if you want to pls send me a msg.
willychili, you're full of shit. Crew workers sign eight month contracts and get a base salary per month, plus tips. They work hard and should probably get more, but it's certainly not fifty dollars a month.
If you're stupid enough to sign a contract to work for fifty dollars a month, that's another thing entirely. Thankfully, on all the ships I've cruised on, the hard-working crew was never stupid like you are. If so, I'm pretty sure we would have sunk more than once.
well, when I went on a carnival cruise, our waiter, who was from thailand gave us the real scoop, he said that it is hard from being away from home at such a long time (eight-nine months) but he still loves it, he said this with a huge smile on his face, he says the salary is generous and that carnival pays for his flight back to his family in thailand, he said that some of the only down side is how horrible some of the snotty tight assed people could be (he didnt say ass, i added it)
We're trying desperately to get on one of the repos next summer. We were on the med cruise a week ago, and while we were there, both P-canal repo cruises sold out. I'm hoping something opens up!
I had a horn war in Nassau a couple years ago. The Disney horn can beat anything. The crossing was 5 days before I went on it last year...*sniff* homecoming
Next time I think about tipping I will remember all the crying and not tip ...period if you dont like it quit.
