Besides, what do you think he will do if elected? He will never get anything through the House/Senate unless he threatens to veto everything from both parties, he doesn't have the demeanor to play hardball like that. The election is symbolic, that's it.

@eurohim Military spending is 16% of the budget and Iraq/Afghanistan together is 2 trillion out of 15, hardly the largest offender. Rs will insist on a massive military spending increases should Paul implement the foreign policy he's allowed to as president with no help from Congress, goodbye support from the right. The left will oppose him on EVERYTHING domestically as will the establishment Republicans who've shown no spine, such as the current leadership.

So how's he going to do it?

Unlike most politicians, Ron Paul would actually follow through on what he says he will do. The problem isn't getting people in Congress to cooperate, it's protecting him from getting assassinated by an establishment that isn't going to roll over.

He can't hand pick his Congress you know, he can't build coalitions, anyone who cosponsors with him from the left opposes his domestic, foreign policy the other way. He may try to follow through on what he says he'll do. But ultimately Congress has much of the say and he can't pass legislation all by himself.

Executive order is strictly limited, although it has been abused in the recent past. If Paul uses it as constitutionally intended there is very little he can do with it, if he uses it as it's been warped, he abused that like everyone else, so where's the win?
