  • I was wondering if it would be okay to use something like no sugar KoolAid or Wylers for different colors and flavors, maybe a tsp? I'm weird that way. The original you made looks wonderful....except now I'm hungry! Thanks Maangchi....

  • @jema2609 I think it's a good idea! Do some experiments and let me know.

  • very nice, but is this a Vegan cake??

  • @ratdiddle did u see any non-vegan products go into it?!

  • And there's no egg or milk in that cake! :)

  • Manngchi! I love this so much , so little ingredients! I will make it for my little sister (7 years old) she has a strict diet (no oils or butter EVER) and she could totally eat this whole cake by herself

  • looks so delicious!

  • I think I love you XD, this looks so...delicious

  • So just to make sure I am doing this right.

When steaming it you wait til it comes to a boil and then do the 30 minutes? or still continue the time when placing it to boil?

Also can you over steam the cake?

  • Can I use a silicone mold for steaming the rice cake?

woah, I can´'t wait to make one..it's so pretty!

  • @pil4r

Well the thing is the mold can't have a bottom because then the steam won't completely cook the cake. You're sorta stuck using a spring form pan.

  • Hi, I was wondering, can i just use rice flour instead of frozen rice flour? Or does it have to be frozen rice flour?

  • @suavtxijno yes, you can. I have never used dried rice flour to make this rice cake, but some of my readers (website) made it with dried rice flour and posted the photos and tips on my website. Check it out. And type "rainbow rice cake using dry rice flour" in the search box on my website and then it will lead to the page.

  • I tried make it but it failed.... :( but I m gonna try again !! when you talk about cups so how much is 1 cup ? how much 1 cup of rice flour weighs? can you please tell me ??! :/

  • @Jennibang get a measuring cup :) You can easily find one in a supermarket or from a baking supplies store

  • Is this a sweet cake? I ask because in contrast to most American desserts it doesn't really have a lot of sugar. It looks beautiful though but I don't think I would have the patience to make it lol

  • @doberdawgs4me Well, rice is naturally sweet and many Asian desserts call for rice flour so to answer your question, it is sweet. For this recipe she added lemon but you could use any type of fruit flavor that you want. In fact, there are hundreds of variations of the korean rice cake! I've even had plain which is still very very good!

But in comparison to white flour that most "American cakes" are made from, it isn't as sweet. It has a very filling and unusual taste to "rice cake virgins".

  • espectacular... estaba buscando la receta por todas partes....

  • hi maangchi you are talking about frozen rice flour? I have bought glutinous rice flour.. Can I use that to? and I dont have that kind of sifter, will it take longer if I use something else? thnx

  • @SweetSugarLemonade For this rice cake, rice flour is used instead of glutinous rice flour. Check out the recipe on my website, plz.
