@williamlander ha ha ha .. HA.. ha.. ha.. I mean.. all volkswagens are crap.. i'll agree with that. But dipped in a rust proofing liquid.. ha ha. you are way out there man. All cars are.. its called paint.. and up until the late 90s it was pretty much just a few years worth of protection. Now-a-days.. paint is just to make the car look better. It isn't even needed after the metal is treated. HA.. there are parts of an old bug that were not covered with anything at all. Ur ignorant
The NewBeetle is not a bad car! It's built better and stronger than the originals and will probably last longer. The big difference is User Maintenance!!!! Old Style Bugs you could repair yourself and save! This was a big marketing ploy that worked and was true!! Not true today, Take it to the dealership or risk making things worse! BugLover's Unite--all kinds!!
@redbugiii I don't like it, but yes. Its much better over all. old bug was ONLY good because it was easily maintained by those few that could. Cheap welfare car. If you could maintain that car you can maintain a new one. don't confuse ignorance with the difficulty of maintaining a car. Wah.. I don't know what a computer is.. BULL SHIT.. Fix the damn thing. Hell, the new ones don't even need maintenance in any way similar to any car made before 1990.
The top model of the Beetle is £21,000. I have a '73 and have spent 8 grand restoring it over a number of years and have a new engine too (1914cc) which achieves an average of 30mpg. So thats a saving of 15 grand. Sweet. ;-)
Volkswagen is going to release a small rear engined, rear wheel drive car with both air and watercooled engines in 08/09. It will be more like the beetle than the current "beetle". The new model will be very cheap too.
I have both a new and an old beetle I like them both, as a daily drive I rather use the new one (quiet, more powerful)and turns as many heads as the old one !!
new beetles are for rich 16 year old girls who drink starbucks and have more money than brains...that is completely oppisite of what the old beetle was, a fun car that was a resonable price for anyone...thanks new beetle, you destroyed the beetle stereotype!
I agree. The New Beetle is a novelty car that is overpriced. The original Beetle was meant to be an affordable no-nonsense car that got the job done. My Hyundai Accent is closer to an old Beetle than the New Beetle is.
lol. The new beetle though drives nice is nothing like the old beetle. The biggest turn off is the front wheel drive configuration. Wish the manufacturers of motorvehicles would sit down and listen to what people want before the regurgitate something they think we would like. Am tired of this crap. Thats why I wont ever buy a new car. Too much crap. Nothing I like.
well obviously the new beetle wont be the same thing. one is an aicooled mkIV chassis with a new shell, the other is a classic piece of history... now the things i'd do for a split screen bug..
The new beetle IS NOT THE car!!!! We are the proud owners of the real McCoy in our family and that's THE thing!!!! The thing that matters with the Beetle is the vintage experience!!! The old ones have a SOUL that the new ones don't. With our little buggy it's like it's ALIVE!!! :)
neo 'beetles' make me angry. People that drive one and think they are a true bug owner are seriously mistaken. We know it's all abount that vintage experience! Gotta love it!
You're absolutely right. I couldn't agree more. I drove a new beetle once. It had nothing to do with a beetle. Bytheway, the new beetle is too expensive for a 2 door car.
A New Beetle IS NOT a Beetle and has nothin to do with it. The the "old" beetle nowdays is just used for commercial purposes of a "new" one unfortunaly!
When I look at that new beetle I don't get the same feeling as I do out of the old one

If it's not rear wheel drive, cheap, and most of all easy to do the maintenance yourself, then it's NOT a real beetle.

I don't care for the new ones. The old ones were built to be a simple, inexpensive, yet well-built car. The new one is all about nostalgia I guess.

Golf in a pretty dress. Still instantly recognizeable as a Beetle though.

I'm talking about the new beetle, I love the classic dub. Up front is the wrong place for the engine to be on a bug.
Jeez, I forgot that I posted this comment... 6 Months Ago!?

That's funny!! 21,000 pounds in England?
Same in USA! $21,000 with the a/c, and all the bells and whistle's they offer on it!!
Congrats and Good Wishes with your 73!
I believe that's what VW wanted--a People's Car!!! not a dealership car!LOL

yes, unfortunately what you pay in dollars, we pay in pounds...making cars expensive in the UK :(
