Thats the closest you'll ever get to having a new style trans am now that gm dropped pontiac =/

I have a question hopefully you or anyone who sees this will answer. I have a '99 Trans Am with auto trans that's shot and needs universal joints. Is this car worth repairing or should I just junk/donate it.? The car has over 181K on it but it still runs okay but it feels real warm under the hood (gauges say the cooling is fine). I hope to hear from anyone :).

@BoomBoomStockings1 i would rebuild the tranny if i was u... u can find parts for a 4l60e almost anywhere... and if u have modded ur car or plan on modding it u can find performance built trannys and rebuild kits for ur car.... u can find a lot of stuff on ls1 and f-body forums too...

The oil does have bits of metal in it (looks like metal flake to me) but my mech tells me as long as it's not knocking I'm ok...just change the oil much more frequently. I was given a magazine with a LOAD full of everything I'd need to repair the car.

It's not too bad at all. Right now you can get stuff for dirt cheap to do the swap. I bought an LT1, 4L60e, engine wiring harness, PCM, engine bay harness, interior harness (from the dash to the taillights), driver door, passenger door, rear hatch, rear bumper, rear tailpanel, and all 4 rims and tires for $1000. I sold the extra parts for $200 then sold my running 3.4L v6 and v6 4L60e for $600. I still had to buy the kframe LT1 radiator & fans, and a few other things. All in all can be done easy

check the fluid in the rear end, if its low it will cause slippage and if its a locker type you may need new clutch discs

Take the cover off the diff and verify that its a limited slip rear end. You either have a non LSD from another lower model or a worn out LSD.
