I have to say, I prefer their time with Yama-B and Yu-To as well. It's not that their music is bad now, it's just lost it's edge. If there were still such a thing as pop-metal (like the hair metal bands of the 80's), they would be dangerously close to it. But that really has nothing to do with Sho. Yama-B left because Syu wanted to write the kind of music you're hearing now. Let's not forget that Syu is the main writing force in Galneryus, so if you're not happy with their sound, blame Syu.

As a huge fan of Syu,I have to say you are objective in assessing Syu's merits or deserts.But unfortunately,most people who prefered Yama-B didn't have such a clear mind,complaining is the only thing they would like to do.
I even prefer TAKA than Yu-to,If you know Galneryus has a very very low percentage of female fans,then you could realize why the band chose Yu-to to play bass for them.

And yes, Syu is certainly getting more technical, and I very much enjoying hearing the progression of his style. But even lyrically, the band sounds quite different, and is one area where I prefer the "Yama-B" period. Some of their new songs are a bit more... "Fluffy," shall we say? If you understand what I mean by that.

And yes, you can definitely hear a big difference between albums like reincarnation and Phoenix Rising, but at the same time, I'm not really expecting to hear another song like Silent Revelation or even New Legend in the near future. Personally, I think they have a few excellent new songs, but none that are quite so influential.
@obviousob What about Versailles? Takayoshi Ohmura? There are a lot of guitarist just as great and / or greater than syu in this generation you should really expand your horizons =) The title of greatest band in japan for this generation cant really be decided there are too many phenomenal players !

@shinjiylawea I also prefer Yama-B. I wouldn't say they suck, but I think that they were better with Yama-B. Although, at the same time Syu's guitar technique and skill continues to improve. I just wish I could hear all these new songs with Yama-B singing them.

@Destroysall i just know that i never had problems listening to a whole new galneryus album at once.. but the sound of their new album - also the first one with the new singer - sounded almost boring and not varied after 4-5 tracks. well but they're still technically so good that even melodies or harmonies that didn't enthuse me at first tend to catch me after more accurate listening. and of course the instrumental parts still make me cry from their first album to the current one.
@shinjiylawea Me too prefer the Yama-B era, but with Masatoshi is other Glaneryus. The last disc, Phoenix Rising, is a great disc with memorables songs.
I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG! GALNERYUS are on there like 7th or 8th album & STILL KICK ass! I cant wait till they come to the US! 8)
