Long live the 70s man!! Better cars, better clothes, music, everything was better, but I keep it aloive. I own a 1975 Cadillac ElDorado Coupe and I dress 70s, bellbottoms and platform shoes. You dig it?
Cadillacs are just a bad mix with today's gas prices. Sucks driving tuna cans you can't stand just to improvise budgets. If it wasn't for that it'd be no problem. America has presented its stupidity over the past 4 years.
Great looking car and in my opinion better looking than the 1975 version which just looked to massive. Caddys were'nt the same after GM's full-sized 1971 re-tooling. Those cars were heavier and apparently more complicated to build than the 'tighter' models they replaced. Also the quality/fit and finish went downhill in 1971 w/the changeover. A 1969-70 Cadillac had much better build quality than the 1971-76 models.
I was selling these cars in 74.& 75. There was a bug change from 71 72 or 73. This new series was the biggest piece of junk I had ever seen. Those of us selling them were embarrassed. Just look at the front styling. Compared to years before they looked like trucks. Sedan D Ville came with so many windows it looked like a Am Track scenic cruiser . It was clunky
and unrefined. Eventually the plastic molding
around the tail lights rotted off. They were a total POS Same for 75.
AH YES. 500 cubes and 800cfm from a 4bbl with back barrels large enough to swallow your fist! I miss these cars bad enough that just maybe we need to go to war for oil with mid-east if they antagonize us enough----so we could build/drive beautiful cars like these again, LOL! I'd love to see todays fuel/ign technology on this 500CID beast!
You are sooo right, Lincoln's had a much better interior than Cadillac, but the 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood tailsman had a great interior, I used to have a 1974 olds 98 regencey and that was also a great interior, loose pillow look, very comfortable, it was all black, seats 7........
Lincoln never had the sleekness of the Cadillac. It never had anything that rivaled the Fleetwood Brougham either. Cadillac offered more interior room and those carpeted foot rests...mmmmm. When it came to rear seat comfort, Cadillac took second place to no one. The Fleetwood also had the self leveling rear suspension. Lincoln may have had an edge in terms of riding comfort in the city, but the highway belonged to the KING: CADILLAC!
All about him - as it should have been. When golf's "king" spoke, millions followed. Ever hear about "Arnie's Army?" Cadillac was delighted to have Palmer say "for me." That meant for millions of others as well. This showman cleared the showrooms for them. Long live "the king!"
I had one of those cars about 10 years ago. However, the big design flaw was the front-wheel drive format that caused problems. The car weighed 2 tonnes and all the weight at the front meant frequent front-end repairs. Front-wheel drive on a little car is fine, but on a 2 ton caddie it sucks. The reason they did it, I think, is to provide more room inside, as a traditional rear-drive car means a great big hump going down the centre of the vehicle to accommodate the drive shaft.
Yup, welcome to the global economy, where everything is made to be sold to everybody else, buy someone else. Many of GM's cars today are on some foreign platform.
Foreign platform... partially true. GM shares platforms globally with Opel (Germany), Holden (Australia), and GM Daewoo (Korea, only the Chevrolet Aveo).
This isn't a bad thing, nor is it anything new.
The Chevette was an Opel platform even the J-Body (Cavalier) was shared with Opel during the 80s.
WOW!! Thank you!! I enjoyed looking at this Cadillac commercial from the 1970's. I added this to my favorites. It is sad in a away because they do not make Cadillacs like that anymore or the Eldorado.
Comfort and style. Two things a modern car is yet to give me.

I like the 1969- 1970 front look, but they should have had a hood ornament.

Not really. Eldorados had FWD since '67. Olds Toronados since '66.

Front wheel drive was available on the "63" Buick Riviera.
