I love this album and the second album although I dont remember the name but I do remember the song that was my favorite. It was called `The Handymans Lament` If you could find it for me that would be awesome!
Thanks for posting! I have both Brothers-In-Law records (were there more than 2?) and was curious if anyone had taken the time to digitize and upload. Kudos!
Hi my name is Lee Ann and i grew up with the brothers-in-law,my dad is Larry Reaume and is one of the orginal brothers-in-law.I have all the orginal albums and know every song!!My dad is now 74 and is doing great! These songs bring back many greart memories!!
@leechute Nice to here from you Lee Ann, and good to here that your dad is doing well. These songs bring back great memories for me too, as well as countless other folks that "grew up" with The Brothers-in-Law.
@starangel3000 Glad I could help. Interesting that you are in the U.S. Most of those that remember this song are in Canada so its nice to here from you.
I am one of the Lucky ones. I had the Brothers-In-Law in concert in "Pillar Square" for Sunday afternoon coffee house. The crowd loved love and when the boys in the band found out we were non profit, all they would take was gas money as payment. The did personally sign all there albums for me which someday I will post,, The 3 CD set is great and well worth money.
Alec is you are still reading the posts, Thanks again for writing those songs that told Canadians it was ok to laugh at ourselves.
@TheSkipper51 Hi there and thanks - now just past the 81 mark but I can still pick a 5 string and sing up a storm - thinking if I could arrange 'An Evening With Alec Somerville' through an agent for either Windsor, London, or Tranna (the Good) d'ye think people might come and listen to The Gospel According to Me? I've seen/heard a few performers/satirists in the past few years, and I think I might be able to carry it off... Also thanks to everyone who plays this old stuff - oldies, eh?
This song comes to my occasionally. In college, some 30 years ago, my friend taught me this song and we played it at the McGill variety show. I completely forgot the words and often wish I could remember it. Then today I decided to Google it, and lo and behold, here it is!! Thanks for posting! Don't know if I'll ever sing it again in public, though, the pill ain't the novelty it once was, LOL!!

Even though I knew everyone of their songs...word for word...there is only one song that I have continued to sing....to my children, nephews/nieces, and others, over the years. And that is....Lullaby To A Spoiled Brat. In my opinion, Alex Sommerville was a great banjo player....but nothing short of genius when it came to writing songs.
@PhilipJamesPrentice Jesus - nothing short of genius..... wowee - you certainly made my day/week/moth This is Alec Somerville writing this, 81yrs old and still think about 'saran wrap' and wish they's had viagra then - could have made a rhyme somewhere I think (coming like Niagara, maybe...) Donlon Hall was sure a long time ago. When next in Windsor, I will post it here - I play Tuesdays at The Sandwich Mill, Mill & Sandwich Sts when I'm there. Love to meet some of you over beer and banjo.
Back in 1965, at age 16, I was asked by my school teacher to bring in my guitar and banjo to help out with a Folk music concert they were putting on. Shortly after that I was approached once again and asked if I would like to be the opening act for an upcoming concert at Donlon Hall, in Windsor, featuring the "Brothers-In-Law". I was scared...to be sure...but I just could not pass on the opportunity to share the same stage with Canada's most beloved band. What an experience!
Hi this is Alec Somerville, the guy who wrote all this stuff in the 1960's, I am 80yrs young and living in Ireland. The old Arc Records Catalogue of our stuff has been reissued on a 3 set of CD's by Unidisc - there are 6 of the old LP's on the 3 discs and tho' I say it meself - it sounds good! (plus I'm still on royalties from this and any airplay. You can get these from any record store, ie HMV; or online from NewWorld DC's. I'm thrilled to see what you guys say.
I remember my Dad bringing this album home when I was in grade school. My friends and I had it memorized in a few days and were doing performances at recess. ;^)
@jsturo You can order both albums (The Pill & Oh Oh Canada) off the iTunes website for the price of a single whole album. No! I don't work for them. But I looked everywhere for those songs; finally I found them. Good luck.
