NO Les Mis can not pull that off. Yes Andrew Lloyd Webber is awful about reprising themes but the way he dose it in Phantom makes sense. Now, Les Mis is 3 hours of the same music. At least with Phantom you get a break.
It is 3 in the morning and I can't stop watching your vids! Damn you for being hilarious!! And don't listen to all the haters out there that can't take a joke! Well got to go find the subscribe button!
Guys, Guys, Guys.. Chill the fuck down. Think what you will, but this is review! This is what he thinks of it. You guys dont need to freak the hell out about his opinion. If you dont like it, good for you, go watch another video about Phantom. As much as I love Phantom of the Opera, I have to agree with a lot of this. Excellent Review.
Maybe you should pay more than 40.00 for a ticket and get a good seat.....(and yes, I've seen it in 5 different cities-2 different countries and I LOVE the movie, so I may not be the typical stuffy theatre attendee)
This guy or should I say opinionated asshole is less than useless. Lets hear this piece of shit sing or dance or act or compose or anything accept maybe whine and cut down those who do have talent, unlike himself.
I've been in love with this play since I was six years old (I'm now 21) & yet I find myself in agreement with what you said in your review. I dislike the entire supporting cast & Raoul. There are also quite a few instances of round-singing or group singing that occur here and it sounds like loud noises when compared to the flawless original cast. The chorus is also really weak in parts despite them boasting that there's over 100+ ppl. Ramin and Sierra were okay but no Michael or Sarah.
Although I disagree with what you said about The Phantom of the Opera being overrated, (I highly doubt that it is because it is only the most successful entertainment event of all time), I absolutely agree with what you said about John Owen-Jones. And you made me laugh out loud at points in this video. Kudos.
Even though I disagree with a lot that you said, I still love this review! The whole Meg thing was pretty hilarious! I love John Owen Jones but I'm sooo happy Ramin was the Phantom for this. He is by far my fav. Phantom!!! I planned a whole trip to London in Oct. because of this show and it was fantastic!!! I'm so so happy that I was able to see it live! Ramin gave me chills every time he opened his mouth. Completely worth every penny! I also got to see saw Hadley the very next day in Les Mis!=]
The thing I didn't like about the masquerade scene was red death didn't move. He should have walked down the steps , ripped the chains off Christine and run away and vanish. Oh well.
This was absolutely hilarious! RadcliffeRox and bebisstacis said it best, love it but we can take a joke. Also, the Philip Quast bit put you on my awesome list immediately.
I love The Phantom of the Opera, funny/good review... But I would like to point out that Meg came before Jar Jar. So Jar Jar is the most pointless character since Meg (I actually don't mind Meg). Should have said something like "Now we know who Lucas based Jar Jar's importance off of."
This review is funny. xD I love The Phantom of the Opera, but I can also take a joke. You made good points, and put them across in a funny manor. That's a win to me. \O/
Thank you, Jess, for such a great review, since these things usually offend me. I love this musical, it's my favorite of all time. I found myself agreeing with your crisicism. When I watched this DVD today, I too, felt that the 2004 movie became obsolete. It was also leaps and bounds above any stage production I have seen, which includes my trip to Canada to see Paul Stanley from Kiss as the Phantom. Anyway, thanks again for this wonderful review with honest criticism as well as humor!
I'm a huge Phantom phan so usually I would hate a review like this, but I actually agree with almost everything! It also brought a little more humor to how I watch the show now.
a lot of the criticisms the reviewer uses compares this to the stage show. It is the stage show you numpty but held in a concert hall not a theatre. It is obvious you have never seen the original stage show. They couldn't crash the chandelier as the roof of the Royal Albert Hall is not set up for this sort of effect as it is a concert hall that has listed status for its interior. This show was first class with a great cast and a brilliant job in converting the RAH to put this show on
LOOOOOOOOOOOL "Dear diary, I put a girl in home (?), and almost felt her boobies, but I got scared and than went to her shoulders instead, I wonder she likes me, oh I hope she... OOOOH MY MAAASK!!111!!1" Damn, a lot of funny parts. And yes, JOJ should be in the 25th anniversary. And yes again, the cameras are terrible.
This review is what you get when you let an immature turd talk about Phantom of the Opera without knowing the full story, with all of the actual details, just to impress some equally immature teen audience.
The 25th Anniversary show was a 2 Day event at the Albert Hall and as such the Albert hall was not Sutable for the crashing chandelier. The Regular venue still crashes the chandelier twice a day I can assure you.
"And this is the first Raoul I didn't want to kick in the balls." Haha, I think this is the first Raoul who actually HAD balls. I love your videos btw.
@KalleK1989 Butler can't sing, he crucified the role in my opinion, this is one of the things that I agree with on this video, most of what has been said on the video I totally disagree with, amazing show and this was an amazing production.
@KalleK1989 Gerard Butler definitely CANNOT sing! He's absolutely awful. The whole score had to be changed to accompany his lack of talent, and the soaring notes were cut altogether for him. Anytime he has to hit a strong note, he just yells it. Listen to it on headphones, it's insufferable.
I read somewhere that the English productions of the POTO had to drop the crashing chandelier idea because of health and safety laws that were brought in. In Australia they had the chandelier crashing down, and i recently saw the production again in london last year and i can't remember if it did nor did not (most likely did not because it certainly is something you remember). Anyhoot, I believe that is why it was missing in this concert.
I frikkin love Phantom, and was so ready to beat your ass if you insulted it... but, oh my goodness, hilarious!! Loved your comment about the bit at the end with all the past Phantoms and Sarah... kind of cemented my view that Sierra is soo much better as Christine than her. Thank you!!
P.s... I also love Ramin and Hadley... and would happily have either of their babies =)
good points i still like ramin dough. i get ur opionion but its still an opionion, loads agree and loads disagree im undescieded.
I think Hadley Fraser should not get in a fight with Ramin coz he's gonna strangle him later. i can imgiane hadley sayin "Ramin, did you tighten the rope or somethin coz my throat is really sore." and Ramin just turnin away smirkin and sayin "No."
I'm gonna get a lot of flack for this, but here goes. It wasn't very well "planned". Half the time, it seemed Ramin was out of breath that half the time, it sounded like he was off pitch. The best moment, at least in the DVD, was the final lair and the JOJ parts of MOTN (that was quite possibly the purest MOTN moment I have ever heard). Sierra's last part of WYWSHA was pretty good.
But yeah, the final lair was really good...except for Meg...."oh, Meg..."
Ok as much as a Phantom Phan I am, this review got a lot of laughs out of me! "Like in this scene of Music of the Night, where we get a 30 second shot of Sierra's BOOOTTTYYY. Yeah, hi. I'm a little uncomfortable down here. Please don't fart." LOL!!!!
Okay. I disagreed with several things you said. However, 1) Thank you for that brief moment of JOJ :-) and 2) OMG your comment on Sarah Brightman made my day!
Scrap wot I said, ure review was pretty good, freaked out from what u said in the first 30 secs, then largely agreed with u for the rest of it! Haha well done! One of my fav musicals tho!
Ure a dick! If u don't like something move on, y take the time to comment on something u clearly have no idea about! People work hard to create and share a great piece like this!
I only wish you added a little bit about how horribly awkward Andrew Lloyd Webber was on stage at the end, holding everybody's hand, and being constantly ignored.
i agree with you on gerard butler.. i mean he wasnt terrible... but there are definitely better singers than him.....he was a good-looking phantom though. :D hahaha
I can't say I agree with everything that is said here, because I do enjoy the Phantom of the Opera very much, however this DID make me laugh at quite a few points. Like when Christine drooled on the Phantom's hand. I never noticed that. xD
Alright so I bumped into this video again, and i decided to apologize for my violent and intolerable response. Even though i kind of disagree with some aspects, it always makes me laugh. Sorry if I offended you, I'll make sure to subscribe. :)
This was pretty funny. I especially liked that remark about Colm Wilkinson. Lol he's not that old, he's a year younger than Michael Crawford. But he's aged a lot more.
This is hilarious but I gotta say I am glued to the 25th anniversary DVD I can't stop watching it, Ramin is one of the best phantoms there has ever been
Gerard butler was best for the part in the movie because of his acting style and voice. Broadway style is booming and belting. This is what theater geeks crave! For the movie version his voice worked. If he would of been the Phantom in the stage version he could not of pulled it off. But do not get me wrong Gerard Butler is a very gifted man in acting as well as singing.
@sensitive4321 woah woah, calm down. gerard butler did a phenomenal job with both acting and singing, but when it comes down to it, is he really a broadway/opera singer? no. was he best for the role? yes, he did a superb job with the character, but in all honesty, i wish they used a more trained singer. i know he did his best, trust me some of the songs he sings are not easy, but most of the time he sounded very amateurish and under-trained.
@themusiclover137 ..........................in my opinion he did not sound amateurish he sounded amazing and i think made an amazing phantom he sang like an angle he was hot and was an amazing actor he just the that thing in his eyes where u could tell something was going to happen so i think he was an amazing phantom
Also, when you mentioned the bit with Stranger Than You Dreamt It, have you ever seen John Cudia's version (got to see him as Raoul once, then the Phantom)? He literally drags himself across the stage, singing the whole time. Of course, he has a rather smashing voice so I digged it. Teehee, it felt good to see the Phantom strangling Christine, though. Wish he had done that to the twitty book version =P.
The thing you said about Christine being a human deer cracked me up! Thanks for the laughs, I love the Phantom of the Opera (book) and like the musical a lot, too, but sometimes I want to rip my hair out because people insist that one version tops another.
The phantom gets all angry pants.....oh please...you just go watch the movie if you love it so much. It's been running for 25 years so it must be doing something right
you know I hate it when people critisize any version of the phantom I love them all but you are just too funny :) and you actually made some really good points! thank you for the first totally fair review of either the phantom of the opera OR love never dies :) awsomez
michael crawford gets left out again he was the one that made the phantom so successful so fuckin what if he's 69 he could out sing and act every single one of the phantoms after him.
I also think the commanding presence is lost in the 25th because there is too much lighting, that probably is what you were getting toward with the darkness and shrouding
I disagreed with a fair bit of the first half of you review, and you're certainly strong with you opinion (nothing wrong with that), but the second half was very well thought out and somewhat humorous, and I like your point of view on the subtle changes, differences between stageshow, film, and and this production, and preference of JOJ as the phantom in this production (not that Ramin's bad).
As much of a Phantom fan I am: HOLY HELL YOU HAD ME IN FITS!!! I was laughing so hard I fell out of my chair! My roomate was wondering what the hell was wrong with me!
As corny as this sounds, I almost lost it watching this in theaters during that last scene. I could really see the sorrow in both Cristine's and Phantom's eyes as they parted. Ugh.....
its not THE best its just THE longest running show because people enjoy it a lot, and shat i forgot Fiddler D= i b fucked, but Phantom is one of my favorites and i do agree with everything you've said, olga, get bent!
Olga respect others opinions, you might get friends if you did, and xXJessWorldXx, good retaliation, i do say that Webber Reprises the shit out of his shows especially the Phantom Saga, yes there are 2 of them but thats what makes them good is their music, the music is wonderful and yes the chaacters are weak but this is a loved musical, not calling it the best, i'd compare it to Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Les Mis, The Music Man, and other great musicals,
i am obsessed with phantom ill admit some parts of your reveiw was quite funny im not gonna bark down your face and say you suck for reveiwing i am not going to comment negativeley for you voiceing your oppion ps. the diary lol.
All the phantoms seemed like annoying idiots. Then I heard John Owen Jones. wooow. To be truthful i dont like the phantom. Its probably the most cheesy musical. I love Hadley Fraser and Philip Quast. JOJ is awesome...... especially as jean valjean. LES MIS RULES
@SuperKaitie333 My facebook page has a huge section with his vids. I have fantines arrest, Javerts death , the confrontation and more. JAVERT IS EPPPPPPPIIIIIIC
people, stop argueing about what music is better! music is all opinion-based, just respect other people's opinions. personally, i fricken love the phantom, i think its the best show in the world. if this guy doesn't like it, that's absolutely fine.
(however this video came across as quite disrespectful Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, there's no argueing that he is the godfather of musicals. maybe people wouldn't have gotten so defensive if you said u worded your opinion differantly)
This is an entertaining review. However The fact that ALW does reprise music in his shows adds to my appreciation and I find it a strength. I enjoy light opera and where a theme recurs it just adds to the depth of the show. It brings a cohesiveness: Bizet's The Pearl Fishers for example. Les Miserables has reprised music also
Hey-how'd you get all of the footage of Phantom25 before it was released on DVD? Can we get access to it somehow?
SamVMK 1 day ago
@Chriswren09 You are very correct. If you saw Love Never Dies when it was in theaters, the repeating themes are worse.
WiiUDude 2 days ago
NO Les Mis can not pull that off. Yes Andrew Lloyd Webber is awful about reprising themes but the way he dose it in Phantom makes sense. Now, Les Mis is 3 hours of the same music. At least with Phantom you get a break.

HOLY PHANTOM.

Culverbop 2 months ago
Ure a dick! If u don't like something move on, y take the time to comment on something u clearly have no idea about! People work hard to create and share a great piece like this!

meggymoo2997 2 months ago
I only wish you added a little bit about how horribly awkward Andrew Lloyd Webber was on stage at the end, holding everybody's hand, and being constantly ignored.
That was definitely my favorite part...
evannhowlett 2 months ago
i agree with you on gerard butler.. i mean he wasnt terrible... but there are definitely better singers than him.....he was a good-looking phantom though. :D hahaha
coolestloser109 2 months ago

But he's aged a lot more.

misscool123456 2 months ago
This is hilarious but I gotta say I am glued to the 25th anniversary DVD I can't stop watching it, Ramin is one of the best phantoms there has ever been
Kate123488 2 months ago
Gerard butler was best for the part in the movie because of his acting style and voice. Broadway style is booming and belting. This is what theater geeks crave! For the movie version his voice worked. If he would of been the Phantom in the stage version he could not of pulled it off. But do not get me wrong Gerard Butler is a very gifted man in acting as well as singing.

are you deaf, or have you just never listened to the music?

DICK GERARD BUTLER CAN SING HE IS AMAZING I DONT HEAR U SINGING AS WELL AS HIM I DONT SEE YOU IN A BUNCH OF MOVIES...........I HATE YOU........FUCK U
sensitive4321 2 months ago
@sensitive4321 woah woah, calm down. gerard butler did a phenomenal job with both acting and singing, but when it comes down to it, is he really a broadway/opera singer? no. was he best for the role? yes, he did a superb job with the character, but in all honesty, i wish they used a more trained singer. i know he did his best, trust me some of the songs he sings are not easy, but most of the time he sounded very amateurish and under-trained.
themusiclover137 2 months ago
@themusiclover137 ..........................in my opinion he did not sound amateurish he sounded amazing and i think made an amazing phantom he sang like an angle he was hot and was an amazing actor he just the that thing in his eyes where u could tell something was going to happen so i think he was an amazing phantom
sensitive4321 2 months ago
Also, when you mentioned the bit with Stranger Than You Dreamt It, have you ever seen John Cudia's version (got to see him as Raoul once, then the Phantom)? He literally drags himself across the stage, singing the whole time. Of course, he has a rather smashing voice so I digged it. Teehee, it felt good to see the Phantom strangling Christine, though. Wish he had done that to the twitty book version =P.
timewhorl 2 months ago
The thing you said about Christine being a human deer cracked me up! Thanks for the laughs, I love the Phantom of the Opera (book) and like the musical a lot, too, but sometimes I want to rip my hair out because people insist that one version tops another.
timewhorl 2 months ago
The phantom gets all angry pants.....oh please...you just go watch the movie if you love it so much. It's been running for 25 years so it must be doing something right

michael crawford gets left out again he was the one that made the phantom so successful so fuckin what if he's 69 he could out sing and act every single one of the phantoms after him.
VALMCPHAN 2 months ago
I also think the commanding presence is lost in the 25th because there is too much lighting, that probably is what you were getting toward with the darkness and shrouding

I disagreed with a fair bit of the first half of you review, and you're certainly strong with you opinion (nothing wrong with that), but the second half was very well thought out and somewhat humorous, and I like your point of view on the subtle changes, differences between stageshow, film, and and this production, and preference of JOJ as the phantom in this production (not that Ramin's bad).

Olga respect others opinions, you might get friends if you did, and xXJessWorldXx, good retaliation, i do say that Webber Reprises the shit out of his shows especially the Phantom Saga, yes there are 2 of them but thats what makes them good is their music, the music is wonderful and yes the chaacters are weak but this is a loved musical, not calling it the best, i'd compare it to Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Les Mis, The Music Man, and other great musicals,
nobodydusk1 3 months ago
i am obsessed with phantom ill admit some parts of your reveiw was quite funny im not gonna bark down your face and say you suck for reveiwing i am not going to comment negativeley for you voiceing your oppion ps. the diary lol.

ThePhantomOTOpera25 3 months ago
people, stop argueing about what music is better! music is all opinion-based, just respect other people's opinions. personally, i fricken love the phantom, i think its the best show in the world. if this guy doesn't like it, that's absolutely fine.
(however this video came across as quite disrespectful Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, there's no argueing that he is the godfather of musicals. maybe people wouldn't have gotten so defensive if you said u worded your opinion differantly)
emeproducti0ns 3 months ago
This is an entertaining review. However The fact that ALW does reprise music in his shows adds to my appreciation and I find it a strength. I enjoy light opera and where a theme recurs it just adds to the depth of the show. It brings a cohesiveness: Bizet's The Pearl Fishers for example. Les Miserables has reprised music also
