  • Hi Elk, great video. I am quite new to riding and finding issues when cornering around tight bends at 20mph ish. Any tips for a newbie?

I have a cbf125 and keep thinking the tyres will slip if i lean over too much.

  • @stratowner Hi there and thanks! I know what you mean about the tyres on the cbf125 as they are quite skinny and the original brand of tyre was made in india and not that grippy, especially the front. Trust me though, the cbf125 is awesome in tight bends or 90 degree ones too and I've often out cornered much sportier bikes on mine on the same stretch of road. Check out my riding in the rain vid too for more on lean angle and throttle action, it helps in the dry too.

  • If you ride a road bicycle you often have to countersteer a lot! It almost comes naturally, so it'd be good if beginners try their Hand on a rented bicycle or something to get familiar with it

  • I always think, yeah it's worth knowing but carefull not to over think it, It's something I never even knew I just instingtivly did until I heard people going on about it, generally it's just something that comes naturally, but knowing whats going on underneath you is never a bad thing, I'd just worry at the thought of new riders pulling and pushing their bars at experimental speeds, I'd just say realise it, feel it, and let it come, never force it

  • @Redline748 I take your points about new riders maybe not having to think too much about different parts of bike control, afterall, there's so much more going on around them at the time. I do think however, that learning skills such as active countersteering will help out new riders immeasurably and once learnt will become second nature in an emergency.

  • man this might sound weird but this was probably the most helpful video on countersteering that ive watched

  • @GangstasMind Thanks for the kind comment! I try for the most part to put some practical road riding techniques into the theory rather than just ride around an empty parking lot like some other people have done. It's not perfect though and sometimes I kinda rush too much but I'm glad it's been helpful to you :-)

  • Ive only just found out wat countersteering means ive do it normally now without even noticing but when i first started to ride i was amazed that you could push a certain way and it would go the other lol :-)

  • @dominiclutwyche Hehe, yeah! When I first learned to ride years ago I thought it was a crazy idea to actually think that the bike leans by steering the opposite way. But it's good that you can now do it without even noticing, but remember though, keep practising :-) especially with U-turning cars, pot-holes etc.

  • @elkfazer1 i tend to use it alot with pot holes as there is lot about but theres always one that cops you out and makes u jump lol for another video you could make one about braking for cornering :-) its an idea and its somet i seem to struggle with

  • @dominiclutwyche Good point, braking for bends can be tricky if you're on unfamiliar roads, I'll make that one of my next vids :-) thanks for your input as always.
