I thought it always was mandatory. i never got it, we had to have a sex class in 5th grade at my school and our parents could opt us out of it but we had a makeup assignment. We had to sit down with one of the junior high health books and write a 3 page paper on sex, anatomy, ect. I never understood it. If the parents opt them out it's obvious they didn't want the school teaching them it. I went to a private school.
If you say "have sex after marriage" you don't have to worry about teaching "Have sex when your ready...." The First message is clearer than the second one I mentioned, which makes it much easier, even among the pressures kids go thru. The message of having sex when your ready is very vague. Abstinence is straightforward and concise.

I live in Nebraska and I go to Catholic school. We have this sex ed program called W.A.I.T. training (WAIT stands for why am I tempted). It's the dumbest thing ever. I personally don't believe in God. I go to Catholic school because I used to be Catholic and already have friends there. But all they teach is abstinence. I think they may have mentioned condoms once or twice, but nothing beyond that. They also say that abortion is an abomination. I'd much prefer comprehensive sex ed.
I think mandatory sex education should be required for all students across the country. I do not understand the argument that sex education is an infringement on parental rights. I thought the purpose of sending kids to school was so that they can be equpped with knowledge. Some parents can't even help their child solve a simple math problem so I do not know why parents feel that they have the capacity to wisley teach their child on such a complicated issue.

It is also not the place of the government to be in schools either, but they are, so they can add what ever they want to it. Also, not everyone considers sex ed being parental, because not all parents can explain it, nor are they aware of the new advancements fully. So, schools(private included), should have the option of having it and if people don't like it, home school or private school.

You can't tell kids when they're ready... But what you MUSTN'T do, is tell them to wait until YOU'RE ready (the parents), because kids/teens/young adults don't think that way. This is a progressive ideal, and therein lies the flaw: you may never have the perfect way to teach sex ed; but the bigger flaw is the stick in the mud mentality of teaching an unrealistic "abstain until marriage" lesson plan to kids who ARE GOING to experiment. That's why it's called sexual EDUCATION.

I live in Nebraska and I go to Catholic school. We have this sex ed program called W.A.I.T. training (WAIT stands for why am I tempted). It's the dumbest thing ever. I personally don't believe in God. I go to Catholic school because I used to be Catholic and already have friends there. But all they teach is abstinence. I think they may have mentioned condoms once or twice, but nothing beyond that. They also say that abortion is an abomination. I'd much prefer comprehensive sex ed.

I think mandatory sex education should be required for all students across the country. I do not understand the argument that sex education is an infringement on parental rights. I thought the purpose of sending kids to school was so that they can be equpped with knowledge. Some parents can't even help their child solve a simple math problem so I do not know why parents feel that they have the capacity to wisley teach their child on such a complicated issue.

Up until the last few hundred years people were getting married and having kids when most of us now were in high school. Today's society is the backwards one.
We're biologically engineered to seek out partners from the moment we hit sexual maturity. No matter how much you try to censor and forbid talking about sex, people will still do it. At least teach them how to prevent pregnancy and STD's.
