When I was a kid, I had a pool just like that. We put a cover over it when we weren't playing in it to keep the leaves off. Well, that didn't stop a squirrel from getting in there. Guess how mentally scarring it is to open up the cover to your pool and see a dead squirrel when you're a 10 year old girl?

~ A nice little trick for those that have pools or water features with walls ~

Anchor a piece of 1/2" thick rope on the outside & drape the other end into the water. It only needs to be long enough to reach the water so the critter can grab it & climb out. For those with pools, you can get blue synthetic rope at Lowes or Home Depot. If you have a water feature, the plain brown/tan fiber will do and will hardly be noticed. They can escape & saves you from fishing out dead critters.

Yes, we saved the squirrel. I scooped him out with a pool skimmer, and set him on the ground. He sat there on the ground just dazed for quite a while, he was so tired! Then he scurried off to his house up the hackberry tree next to the pool. :)
