  • Fenriz brought me here

  • Why doesn't Paul Hammond play the organ instead of the drums?

    ok I'm out :p

  • Why doesn't Henry Gibson play guitar instead of writing poetry? These and many more are the mysteries of life!

  • Wow, how could I have never heard this before! So groovy. Prog/stoner/blues/rock. DaSHIT!

  • Fantastic band, criminally underrated.Shame about Vincent Crane, but such are the wages of life in this existence

  • Sound and Voice a little bit like Jethro Tull, I think so.

  • This song is a dream (nightmare) of any Deth Metal band. In 1970!!!!

  • this is a spooky song about death and I know at least 2 of the 3 guys that recorded it are dead if you really want to be spooked listen to it backwards

  • METALLICA nahh licen to PARADISE LOST cover

  • I soaked up the "Death Walks Behind You" album when I was in high school in the '70's. Listening to it now, it really had some strong proto-metal elements to it. I can hear Metallica doing a cover of it.

  • I had no idea Paradise Lost covered this song. I like their version better but the fact that this is from 1970 makes it infinitely cooler.....

  • I hate Atomic Rooster for I wanted to use Blake's Nebuchadnezzar for album cover.

Except for this I love Atomic Rooster for everything else.

  • yeah baby this rocks,im tejjing everybody about atomic rooster,my bro mentioned it many years ago,i didnt listen,he,s the coolest dude i know,my lose. this tune fuken rocks

  • this song is fucking cool

  • Dark, Deep, Intense. How can you not sit quiet and listen to this song. Sort of grabs you by the balls and does not let go until it's finished. And they say Rock is pointless. hmmm.

  • I too had the privilege of growing up with this I was 14 when this came out and could not listen to it enough. Put all else in this style to shame. Long Live Atomic Rooster! RIP Crane,

  • my dad has this 8 track

  • i love jiggy jigg

  • Paul Hammond was staying in Cricklewood in a very hippy type of room, He was always dressed in black and a nice guy, he then rented a flat from me in Willesden. I had left the country and when I returned he had left the flat and found out that he had died. He had done a bit with John Mizarroli from Kilburn.

  • We were in the Kilburn area and Raja who was a hippy with long long hair took me to the Oval cricket ground festival. I had gone with him to Wishbone Ash gig. The Who were the main band, and Atomic Rooster went on stage just before The Who. It was my first sight of topless girls.

  • ......death walks behind you.Almost too impressive song, can drive you mad.Anyway I love this for a long time.Autor- Vincent Crane took his own life exactly 21 ago.He would be happy to know people still love his music and I just hope his music will be going on for another 100 years at least...

  • Dark sound, strong lyrics... it's so yummy...

  • I never realized that Metalica must have listen to Atomic Rooster, This has a Metalica sound to it

  • @paparock0513 this blows Metalica out of the fucking water IMO !

  • behave you two.listen to the song.

  • You're right! I will behave. Please don't punish me! :-)

  • good boy don't make me come back there you two!

  • wow the original is bad ass but paradise lost still did a bad ass cover of this song

  • Their cover is awesome but this is a true masterpiece. Let's not forget that these guys created this, Paradise Lost only copied it. PL updated it with a more metal sound and cookie monster vocals but most people always forget the talent involved when something like this is created. Without that creativity the PL version would not even exist!

  • well actually i meant to say the original version of this song is much better my bad thought i wrote that. but i think pl did more than just simply make it more metal i think the doom metal cover of this song emphasized original blues influence

  • I'm not trying to get into pissing match with you but I don't understand the original blues influence? They pretty much copy the song note for note except with crunchier chords and heavier drum licks. The vocals are in the current style of screaming with a rough voice (cookie monster). What did they do with the song that emphasizes Blues influence? Do you mean that they added more of a bluesy feel to the song? It sounds much more metal than blues to me!

  • .... i wasnt trying to start a "pissing match" with u i think u need to calm the fuck down. i was just making conversation just stating my views while agreeing with you. yea i did mean it added more of a bluesy feel. pl i mean. metal is influenced in part by blues and doom metal is one of the most blues driven sub genres in metal i mean the influence is more noticable

  • I can see that having a civil discourse with you is going to be impossible. Don't resort to vulgarities when none are needed. I believe that you are the one who needs to calm down and I suggest you do a little research into what "The Blues" really are!

  • this to me comes off more as pschedelic than blues and for the last time im not trying to argue with you idk how much clearer i can make that to you.

  • Psychedelic. Now you are starting to make sense! I'm trying to express my opinion to you not argue. It's just a little conversation and we can agree or disagree!

  • yes but you keep talking like im trying to antagonize you well im not and im not trying contradict you either i was just talking, stating my views ,and listening to yours thats all.

  • This song was adopted by my Marine Corps squad in Vietnam. Brings back to mind some truly wild shit!!

    Semper Fidelis my Brothers.....

  • I'm new here and over the moon with this, big thank you to whoever posted it.Far out man.

  • Welcome to you-tube my English friend. I hope I didn't scare you with this post. Not all songs on YT are this sinister! This is good old fashioned early 70's hippy music! Gotta love it. It's what I grew up on!......Rick

  • My cover had the bullet shell on the cover with the red rooster thingy on it... went to the drive in movie one night , smoked some killer shit and blasted the 8 track not realizing everyone could hear... Had the 8 tracked hooked up to some Vox granadere speakers... Don't remember what the movie was!

  • Saw them back in the day in Salt Lake City, Utah/w Savoy Brown, and alice Cooper.. Killer!!!

  • Bought this album new in the 70's. My album cover art is quite different. Song still sounds great. Take a listen to Vug!

  • I posted it along with "Tomorrow Night" and "Sleeping For Years". I got the same album back in the 70's. This cover is from a re-released and remastered CD.

  • sound like Blue Oyster cult got lots of their influence from these guys!! good song....have heard a couple things on XM radio in the past...

  • My Dad just asked me to type this in... Haha

  • Love this band!

  • go online and look for a station wlvr or wmuh, college stations in the allentown pa. area. they play all kinds of music but when they play rock you will hear all kinds of great shit like this!!! enjoy

  • Bigelf did a cover of this song on their album "Money Machine". I actually didn't realize it was a cover for a while.

  • One of the best song ever

  • Great, great. Some bugger stole the original album from me years ago. That and a Kerouac novel.

Here's to you, Sash'. Remembering when we used to groove to this as kids. In your old man's root cellar, candles and reefers burning away. Those were the days.

  • Classic rock radio is a funny thing. This band rocks, and I have never heard them on any classic rock station.

  • And you never will! Because this wasn't a big hit you'll never hear it on a typical classic rock radio station. There are a few that play deep cuts and really obscure stuff but they are few and far between. You may find it on XM or Syrius but I wouldn't know because I'll never pay for radio.

  • I used to hear this song and "Tomorrow Night" on SIRIUS 16 The VAULT prior to the SIRIUS/XM merger and sadly they've gotten rid of The VAULT in favor of XM's Deep Tracks

  • Very good.

    Great song.

    Great band *****

  • Thanks for the sub. Keep playing the guitar over there in Brazil my friend. You're good!

  • OMG!I just discovered that this is VINCENT CRANE OF ARTHUR BROWN!!!

    HOLY SHITTT!!!

  • Hey Johnny, You're the first I've run across from Greece. Cool! Yeah Vincent Crane left Arthur Brown and took Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake and Palmer) with him and formed Atomic Rooster. Kick Ass band from the early 70's. I've posted 3 other songs from this album. Enjoy and check out all the other cool stuff I've posted from the 70's.

  • Damn good band!!!

  • One of the first songs I learned playing along with an album ! I spent hours listening and trying to play this !

  • Love the Rooster!!!!

  • Wiederentdeckt! Genialer Sound!!!
