Johnny Cash also credited Gene as one his heros. One of his most treasured posessions was a guitar autographed by Gene and given to Johnny. He uses the guitar in his music video "Hurt". Riders In The Sky also have a tribute album dedicated to Gene's songs.
Marty Robbins was my was my Hero and always will be he was then and he is now always will be ,as Gene Autry was his.. Marty Robbins what Great Voice, What a nice song I can almost see him as a little boy going across the dessert to see his Hero He put such feeling in this song. as he does in all his song. WOW what a great voice. Love Him, and he is Riding now across the the big screen,
My Dad took me to see Gene Autry live when i was 5 years old in 1946 and i still remember that day. To a 5 year old boy he was bigger than life it self.
DON EDWARDS recorded this song in his Autry-tribute album - are you 100% sure this one here is Marty Robbins' version? (Don's one version is already here in YouTube).
...still adding ... Don Edwards recorded also his tribute (album) to Marty Robbins and he sounds 'almost' exactly as Marty as he wants to sing and sound as one of his heroes - Marty.
Wow-what can i say, a million dollars worth of memories-old show pictures, old Autry comics and photos and a great version by the great Marty Robbins whose EL PASCO is the best cowboy song ever. Again many tears fell as I listened and i realized my youth cannot be bought back-not even for the New York Yankees current payroll.
Gene Autry was and is a hero to millions to this day! He was a phenomenon before elvis or anyone like that. He was the first artist to sell 1,000,000 copies of and album - :That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine". He also had the first gold album ever presented. There is only 1 true legend of the singing cowboys - the first and the legend - Gene Autry!
