  • Double dip Recession, the ongoing rise in unemployment, and no clear sign of a positive economic recovery...it's scary how one artist's sentiment back in '91 has come to a terrible fruition 20 years later. As the "media" continues to bombard us with lies of stability and improvement, the sad truth is, is that this ongoing economic crisis is taking this country further and further into ruin. Sad and maddening at the same time.

  • What a great song.

I recorded it about 1991 from the radio and never heard it again since then.

Hopefully the album is still available to buy. I need it so bad.

  • Kirsty Maccoll- Beautiful, talented, and died saving one she loved.

What sort of person can say they lived a life like that?

  • johnny marr - genius.

  • thanks for posting this..we'll miss you krisy...

  • Brilliant tune, bloody awful video.

  • She looks and sounds great. What a talent.

  • I was never that keen on the rap part but it adds another dimension to the song i suppose.Kirsty with her Beautifull voice, R.I.P. A descent year for music was 91, I was 11, lol!

  • great song. Until I saw this, I only had a cassette version taken off the radio. The visuals are not what I expected. It sounds tougher than it looks.

  • ? ? ?

  • @8orwellish I agree! I just had it on cassette and saw the vid now.

  • @8orwellish dont follow ur logic. its music. isnt how it sounds more important than how it looks?

  • @8orwellish Ah yes the Good Ol Daze !

You could always tape the whole top40 for nowt at the press of a button.

Now you have to fanny around with MP3s & computers !!!

  • Es una de mis canciones favoritas de todos los tiempos, me hace llorar...los culpables deben de pagar sus delitos ¡justicia para Kirsty!

  • One of me faves!

Sad to say, it was one of those tracks I completely forgot about, for a long time, then I heard it on one of me mums cds!

    Thank you kirsty

    R.I.P.

  • co written with Johnny marr (he also plays on the track)

  • Tragic what happened to her. Awesome album.

  • She got hit by a speedboat surfacing after a dive in Cozumel, Mexico

  • @SMCNI1968 luv, thats not really the story.

  • "every town has its madison" including mine: chicago. true that!

  • Yep Kirsty was brilliant, as was her Dad, Ewan Macoll, check out his song/poem The Manchester Rambler. Oh many a day I have spent on Kinder Scout as well.

  • Great song/singer. Justice for Kirsty.

  • 'From the sharks in the penthouse to the rats in the basement, it's not that far'. The recent and ongoing banking crisis has shown how true these words are! And it's shown bankers for the rats many of them are.

  • I have always loved this song. I really miss Kirsty.

  • Awesome song from a much missed artist. Brings a chill to the spine, nostalgic and bitter sweet.

    RIP Kirsty.....thanks for so much.

  • For some odd reason this song popped in my head today. I really digged it back then. Damn I was 17 and this was hitting the clubs here in Dallas.

  • a great video and a great song which i've loved since it appeared on the "electric landlady" cd. i remember when as a kid i first heard her name in the early 1980s, I immediately liked her song "there's a guy...". and it's just now that i've taken notice from her being killed some years ago. this makes me sad and angry.

  • now there walked a legend..sleep sweetly kirsty, you were my hero..xx

  • YES!

  • Bono promised results in helping prosecute the man who killed Kirsty. Of course he is a total windbag.

  • all bono is is an attention whore

  • Yes, I agree. I was the only male in my school year to hate U2 & nothing they have sung, said or done since has changed that opinion. . . .

  • I've no love for them either. Especially after they double-trashed The Skids' The Saints Are Coming with Green Day. Stuart Adamson must've been turning. I was flicking through a U2 book for a Kirsty reference, and one of the band members actually said Kirsty was no U2 fan, she was just bored senseless in the studio with Steve Lillywhite so they let her arrange the track listing to The Joshua Tree while they were struggling.

  • @calicomoonchild Yes, it's actually quite remarkable how much of an insufferable twat Mr Bono Vox actually is. This is, after all, the man who said: "I represent a lot of people [in Africa] who have no voice at all... They haven't asked me to represent them. It's cheeky but I hope they're glad I do." Feel free to vomit at the outpourings of this nauseating, patronising, sanctimonious tosspot.

  • @StonefieldJim4 bono is a twat.

  • @2815andy Bono is the biggest tosser ever to walk this earth. On TV telling all the world to give to charity pretending he cares. Hes the one with the tens of millions in all the forgein banks to avoid tax. He also funds terrorist organisations allegedly. Yes he is a total twat.

  • @berlinwarsaw It's not Bono's fault that the Mexican government is surpassingly corrupt.

  • This hasn't aged one bit. It so deserved to be UK Number 1 in June 1991. But what did we get instead. Bloody Colour Me Badd and Jason Donovan!!!

  • first KM song I ever heard and still my favorite.

  • Love this... is too actual.ever.

  • There is something special about Kirsty MacColl...she is awesome and is missed....

  • Compare and contrast with "Shoplifters of the World Unite".

  • TUNE!! i enjoyed that added to my favourites.

  • Kirsty MacColl RIP. Great to hear Johnny Marr's guitar playing.
