  • hey guys just remember that mma is just mixed martial arts its not actually a martial art nor a system its just the combination of some kind of stand up art ( karate, kungfu, tkd) and some ground like ju jujitsu or judo so don't disrespect each other and the whole point of fighting is to out skill your opponent so that you can beat him and become victorious

  • @morogoyo You are wrong about mma not being a system. Now it has evolved into a system that consists primarily of boxing, muay thai, brazilian jujitsu, and wrestling. These are the main arts utilized in the vast majority of mma training programs that compete in mma competitions (UFC, Strikeforce, WEC, M1-Global, etc). There are practitioners of mma that know other arts and may choose to incorporate them into the mix.

  • @ILoveBritneyBoykin Is not there! A system could be call and described as Jeet Kune Do, Krav Maga, Lima Lama, American Kenpo but MMA is not yet. Is happening now but not yet. A good exponent of this is Nick Diaz, GSP, Fedor, Randy, A. Silva are a few who are creating this system and perhaps in 10 years there will be a system that might be call officially MMA or have a different name. Now everyone trains or picks up some wrestling, BJJ, Boxing and Muay thai and modified them for the cage.

  • I have read some of the comments and many indicate a lack of understanding and some are just silly. The movement you showed is a fairly basic entry, and it DOES work. Does it look like that in real life, no, at least not for me, but I have been able to use it where it mattered. Size matters but not as much as the movement. Thanks for Sharing.

  • GOOD STUFF thanks for posting

  • Its funny but I never see a smaller teacher doin this to a larger student in these vids. It would show the real beauty of an art that was designed by a weaker person to defend againsta larger opponent. MMA included, in a real fight most look like schoolyard brawls. Whats the point of training then? Now I am a smaller fighter and when my dad taught me silat I learned how to move and to think of who created the style, would they really slug it out or move and destroy?

  • @LeviathanLee have you ever considered that because this guy is very large, he isn't going to find too many people his size? Could it be that the smaller guy doing the DEMONSTRATION was: a) the only person available b) the instructor's top student c) his only student or d) all of the above. I've always had trouble finding someone my size to train with. That's frustrating. You want to unload (not out of anger, you understand), but have to hold back because the other person is small.

  • LOL... I have seen some of your students in "action" on other clips and they would get not only owned, but seriously hurt by the average MMA guy, or even your typical college football player.

In my part of Chicago, claims like that would land you in serious shit. As for you never losing, the only thing it seems you have never missed is a meal. You need to lose at least 80lbs.

  • I guess you must be really dense saying claims like that would land you in serious shit in your part of Chicago. You're the one that put out the first claim, quote "MMA would own your ass". I told u my experience with MMA, if u don't believe it, then get off your ass and take a little trip to Michigan. I notice you have no videos or even a picture on you profile. I'm getting really tired of you cyber martial artist, lol. Oh yea, Chicago doesn't have anything on Detroit!

  • MMA would own your ass...

  • I love when ignorant people talk out of their ass! I've been doing "MMA" since before the first UFC came out, lol! Never lost back then when I was actually doing it or anytime since i've been practicing Pencak Silat and Kali! Now, when MMA guys come in with their cocky disresectful attitudes I just have one of my students pummel them!

  • dude i HATE those kids that have a cocky attitude and im a big guy so they say these outrageous statements like"id take you out under a min" i kno size doesnt matter to much but its like get real youve been in "MMA" for 2 months...ughh had to vent sorry

  • @ireallydontcare4u Yeah, mma wannabes are everywhere these days with their affliction and tap out shirts. They have bad attitudes. They got the fight training, but not the spiritual and the philosophical training. Actually, only the new mma guys are like that, the advance ones are humble. I guess this goes for most martial arts also.

  • @GetDamage Stop talking nonsense. Most martial art systems started out as fighting methods designed to fight or ward off enemy attacks. The spiritual and philosophy stuff was secondary to knowing how to defend yourself and disable your enemy before he kills you. A lot of martial arts systems became watered down and downright ineffective when they started to put too much emphasis on spiritual and philosophical mumbo jumbo.

  • @ILoveBritneyBoykin I am sorry but no!! Martial arts became water down when they became a sport and specially when there was no need to fight in war hand-to-hand. But the main culprit is sports. This days is hard to find someone that has the ability to stick their fingers into someones abdomen or with one blow crack a skull. Is rare anyone trains at this level because at a sport no one is going to do this. Few left that still train to kill! Rest are for sport!!

  • some of it looks ok - best part around 5.40, but the reality is very little of that stuff would be able to be pulled off. Consider a half decent boxer moving forwards. I am by no means knocking Guru Jerry as i feel he has great movement and fluidity, but i do feel as martial arts teachers we have a responsibiity to teach application that really can be "pulled off" out there in real life.

  • I agree with you that as martial arts teachers we have the responsibility to teach applications that can be "pulled off" in real life. Maybe all of the those years I fought golden gloves boxing, full contact kickboxing, kenpo karate, jkd, shootfighting, muay thai or the 100's of real life street fights that i've been in don't account for anything as a teacher who knows what is or is not effective in the street?

  • Jerry we can all go on about our street and competition experience, but the point is this with ALL of that experience you have, you yourself should well know the majority of that clip which is against a static and far lighter person will look good - faced off agaisnt someone your own stature, and the majority of that stuff would never work!

  • part 2 to my comment... As i said before mate you move great and I know if you hit someone they are going down, however switch it around - do you honestly think your opponent there would be able to "pull that off" against you? Personally i dont think so, but again thats just my opinion bruv!

  • I'm sure we could all go on about our street and competition experience but the only reason it was brought up is because those were YOUR questions! "Consider a half decent boxer moving forwards" and "i do feel as martial arts teachers we have a responsibiity to teach application that really can be "pulled off" out there in real life"

  • My buddy who is a fire fighter and paramedic in Florida called me last night and told me he was in a fight with 2 bruisers each around 6'5 and 270 to 300 pounds. The guys apparently thought he was an easy target cause he's only 5'7, 180 pounds. The fight lasted about 10 seconds resulting in one guy going straight to the hospital and the other one completely incapacitated and beat to a pulp! I don't think those guys have any questions if it's effective or not???

  • The movements in the video are just one very small aspect of our art! Do you actually think that these movements are the only thing we would use in a fight? That would be like a Wing Chun stylist demonstrating pak sao in a video and everyone saying "Ha, that would never work in a fight" the guy's not just going to stand there with his arm held out, lol! Any serious martial arts teacher would know that it's just a demo of one particular move and there are many many ways to train it!

  • Really good stuff.

  • The guy teaching weighs 100 pounds more. Anything he does will work againts that skinny dude.

  • Pretty much like Wing Tsun.

  • learn more before you compare. both are different arts but different approaches and insides in how to fight

  • great!

  • Nice vid Jerry..lets hear it for another big bastard who can move..LOL....peace akhi!

  • Good Stuff brother.
