  • Very few likes.....proving that this album requires repeated listenings, otherwise people won't recognize the absolute musicality, dissonant themes, TONS of counterpoint, ideas bouncing around like quarks. Yes this is even more challenging to the listener than TAAB, no simple refrains droneing on as in trad. pop/rock. This IS the Holy grail of the classic Tull line up at their prog best!

  • One of my earliest memories of existence was seeing my dad's copy of the album and the cover frightening me. I didn't come across it again and listen to it until I was in my twenties and I love the thing. I suppose I may have also heard it as a small child and just don't remember it.

  • heres your id for identifying one and all

  • This grand piece is out of the gate some 5 months before Tales.Though TFTO is from a newly discovered planet!

  • Ah I love the part from 4:29 to 5:42... It's kinda aggressive.

  • This album is impossibly amasing

  • when you really get into this its absolutely stunning

  • After listening to this time and time and time and time again I just can't believe how good this shit is. It literally CRUSHES Thick As A Brick into the dirt. I can't even listen to TAAB any more.

  • @kokakolakidd opinion :P

  • another album in my top 10 ! total classic....tull at their proggiest!

  • "And your little sister's immaculate virginity wings away on the bony shoulder of a young horse named George. who stole surreptitiously into her geography revision"

Critics hated A Passion Play .... Tull fans were split, but musicians who were also Tull fans fucking adored it and praised it for years ....

A Passion Play was a brilliant (if bombastic) work of art.

How do you combine Gothic motifs with a jazz impulse and a dark, progressive aesthetic ? ... A Passion Play ...

  • Tull was so much crazier back in the day. This is hard rock diarhhea!!! I love it.

  • "The ice cream lady wet her drawers to see you in the passion play".

I was listening at this when I was about twenty two years old. Saw them in concert playing this shit. it was absolutely amazing.

  • @surfsyde6 - Saw this show at the Fabulous Forum - They sold out 3 or 4 nights ...

They played the entire piece, start to finish .... Amazing ... Started with the heartbeat, and the tiny pulsing dot on the screen, which eventually faded in the ballerina ...

When they were done ? .... Blazed directly into Thick as a Brick ... Start to finish .... Unbelievable ..

  • @TrajanGregory You're a lucky person. I would be afraid to see that concert as everything after would pale in comparison.

  • @godbluffvdgg True. The most magic live performance I ever had the pleasure to attend.

  • The examining body examined her body

  • at 6 40 this thing really takes off..angry tull rules...again...great post aqualung

  • As much as I love Jethro Tull, this is the first time I have ever heard this music. It is very good so far, though perhaps not as instantly accessible as Thick As A Brick.

  • "Invest your life in the memory bank, ours the interest and we thank you!....."

  • @tjrxk7

    interest 100% ;-)

  • this why the emmy for crest is in the genre its in for all the clueless fucks...tull are the heavymetalmasters hahaha...critique oblique section of passion is the best part

  • Ive always said that if you can appreciate Passion Play, that you're a true Tull fan. Passion Play was alternative when alternative wasn't cool.

  • Great album. It wouldn't make it today since it requires an attention span to listen to it.

  • @tahoetrailrunner ha ha ...exactly

  • Love this album, haven't heard it in awhile. JT music just reaches down to my soul and stirs up a part of me that nothing else can touch.

  • Danke für diese Session-TULL forever......

  • This was absolutely the best album they ever did. It's a shame it went so unnoticed.

  • @TheFridgeslayer

im beginning to believe that myself. its depth is incredible. though i do think it went to number one in the US after it was released

  • Great.!!! As Ian says at the 1:11 mark.

    "And we thank you! "

  • You Rock for this, wow.

  • This is such a dark, great album! I love the entire album, but the opening is especially memorable. "A Passion Play" is sort of like a much darker "Thick as a Brick."

  • only in the fact that it is a concept album...differnt story...different theme...different key...

  • I know this is a hard task, for this song especially, but could you maybe post the lyrics? If not I can understand. I am thinking about including lyrics in the description of my videos myself.

  • hey Aqualung71, at the moment I can't, I'm busy and soon I'm leaving my hometown for 2 weeks and I won't have internet. Then I've got 6 weeks of exams. So I guess you'll have to wait until mid-February, sorry =(

  • Oh, that's understandable. Well you don't have to do that anyway, it was just an idea. Since the lyrics from this song are so complex and all I thought it would be interesting just to read the lyrics with the music. Anyway, good luck with the exams.

  • @Aqualung1989 yes i know the site you speak of, Cup Of Wonder right ?

  • @Aqualung71 There's a website with a detailed explanation of the lyrics. Google is your friend.
