  • one day, I shall try the meat of this mighty sea creature.

  • This was actually entertaining to watch. I never even knew that you could make abalone steaks because the ones I see are usually small.

  • The taste is hard to discribe...Nothing taste like abalone....Maybe a mixture of lobster and chicken? It's delicious....

  • what do they taste like? P-: They look yummy and meaty...

  • Is anyone else loosing their mind watching that yellow jacket buzzing around the abalone and fingers D:

  • it looks like a mushroom

  • Again thanks for sharing! I watched your previous video on shucking. I hadn't tried your way of slicing the steaks. I believe it makes them more tender.

With your approval I may feature this video on my site as well.

For all things Abalone related check out abaloneinc(.)com

  • oh god, in asia, you can exchange a house with that abalone

  • Cool video. Thanks for posting. The abalone looks delicious.

  • After you cut the guts off was it dead?

  • look like cheese wheel

  • Im really glad to see this instruction video out there... My father taught me almost exactly the same way all the way through.

Actually i do one thing different, or rather more precise... when youre pounding the ab, its important to go all around the circumference of the steak first, then work your way in, rather than indiscriminately , or from the inside out. This will keep the steak from turning to mush around the outside. get a much better texture.

great instruction, and what an amazing Ab

  • You do it the exact way I was tought by my dad ! The time proven way !

  • green lip or blacklip?

  • blacklip...

  • oh sorry it is black lip isnt it (red lip) lol

  • It's a red abalone with the shell tip red...The black is on the skirt. Sorry for the confusion...

  • very awesome vid man.... I jus got lucky at moat creek and caught 10 1/2 in' abalone without even getting in the water at all... I just go rock picking and I like to eat my abalone raw with some wasabi and soy sauce, but that's great instruction on how to clean the ab... if you don't mind can you give me recipes on preparing abs i want to try something new

  • how are the pearls very expensive if u cant sell them nice abs in australia the most common size is half that

  • It the pearl is not taken with a CDFG license it can be sold.....they do find them on the beaches now and then...

  • jarabe?

  • Very informative vid.Thanx for adding this man

  • You find them in the five most northern counties of California and just across the border in Oregon....

  • hey sry i forgot to ask you where do you find them? what part of the ocean are they in?i love sea food and would like to try it if i cant find it i live in Florida but i have never seen them in the store or anything.

  • The Red Abalone can only be taken in the five most northern counties of California and just across the border in Oregon...

  • thats pretty cool i never knew that you could eat them. are they salty or blan?

  • It's hard to explain... Certainly not salty though...One must be careful in seasoning too much as abalone steak will take on taste!.

  • we call these Paua

  • It truly has a taste of its own; maybe combine lobster with chicken? it's just hard to explain.....Once you've tasted it you'll be hooked...

  • what does it taste like, never had any?

  • It's hard to describe the taste...Maybe, a mixture of lobster with chicken? It truly has its own taste.

  • Instead of carving out the black parts and the sole, I'd recommend using a semi-stiff brush and brushing off the black part. The brushes are sold at WalMart as a detail brush in the auto section. It's blue and has plastic bristles and I think is $1.79. Works great for cleaning crab too.

  • i'd leave the abalone alive so it can be frech

  • I prefer to leave some of the foot (sole), it tends to lend character and aesthetics.

  • I'M STARVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the input and the tip...abaloneten

  • thanks for the vid!

ps to get more views add more tags like diy, how to, shucking, cleaning, abalone, etc
