There's a 1980-vintage video of Goodman playing this song in Japan -- you can find it here on YouTube -- and Goodman sounds just as smooth and strong in 1980 as he does here in 1935. What an artist!

Again, I love this tune. The story goes that BG wasn't very verbally expressive so he expressed himself through his music. In fact, he supposedly courted his future wife by "expressing his love" through his clarinet playing this song.

I agree. Just the mirrored harmony between clarinet and the piano at the end of the piece is pure heaven. The talent and dedication that these men had for their craft is what makes them geniuses.  I am hoping that there is a heaven so I can meet them and continue to play my own inadequate version of these records.
