  • Awesome video, simply shows the benefits of switching to energy efficient light bulbs. Saving money and using less energy doesn't have to be complicated or difficult.

  • Lee, You didn't mention that CFL bulbs are made with mercury, which complicates their disposal.

  • "Why havent you switched? are you still watching movies with a VCR?"

If you ask a friend this they'll just think you're a dick.

  • LOL we need "Climate-Gate in Plain English" LOLOL

  • The thing I like about CFLs is that I could stick a 60w fluorescent into a 60w max socket and get a hell lot more light than 60w incandescent.

  • You may be near 1 right now! Now, Place your arms behind your back your under arrest. How dare you choose to spend an extra $1.00 a month. Get ready for the Police state. Is it about saving money or is all about an ajenda? DUH.

  • it exists but its not going to do ANYTHING weve had spikes of extremely warm and extremely cold periods (ex.ice ages) in the past theres absolutely NO reason to freak i understand why its important to save money but thats the only reason to switch

  • the point is, it doesnt matter if global warming does or does not exist. switching to CFLs saves people money, so you're just plain stupid if you don't switch over.

  • omg global warming doesnt EXIST

  • Wow! Does this guy ever draw breath...? :o)

  • The REAL question is.. Can I stick my penis in it?

  • I tried and it burnt the skin off my penis. After it sheds, the new skin will make sex feel even better.

  • ouch vcr

  • In 1:45 he says "less assholes, less money"

  • Our city use nuclear power to power our city. CFL contains mercury which is hazard to the enviroment. I never have problems with incandesce bulbs. It last so far 2 years and never burn out.

  • Light bubls cost 60 cents? Cfl cost 4 dollars? And cfl last 13 times longer? People have thier lights on 24/7?

All lies. I can go all over this city and buy bulbs 4 for a dollar. I would be tested to find a good supply of cfls for 4 dollars each. Do cfls last 13 times longer than incandescent bulbs? One quarter to one third of cfls fail to meet advertised life expectancy. Do you or anyone you know leave thier lights on 24/7?

So why cfls? Just another elitist telling you what to do!

  • incandescents use filaments to make their light, which burn out very quickly; the burning is how they produce their light. CFL's produce their light by pushing electricity into charged gas. CFL's almost never break; there is nothing to burn out.

Also, i know many places that leave lights on 24/7. Stores, casinos, restaurants all have light on almost to all hours of the day. Street lights are another prime example, lining our world.

Keep in mind that this vid was made in 2007, different prices.

  • if they don't want us eating CFL lights then why do they make them look like Cinnamon Twists.

  • Amazing reading these comments, americans are soooooo fucking stupid omg. This new bulb is using LESS energy!!!! Enough said stop bitching about mercury, its the same amount as a pinhead.....your plasma tv has mercury, your old teeth fillings have mercury....thermometers have it ect ect....get over your stupid old nasty bulbs will be illegal soon anyway you dumb fucks

  • I hate these CFL bulbs. You stumble in the dark while the bulb slowly lights up to full capacity and end up falling, breaking your bones, and becoming less fuel efficient all around. The higher toxicity of the materials is criminal. Maybe there is a place for these in an industrial setting - but to mandate them for everyday use and BAN the good bulbs is like the 20ies alcohol prohibition all over again. Finding a decent lightbulb is now like hunting for truffles. What a nightmare.

  • The CFL bulbs and their promises are as phony as the guy humming in this video.

The video depicts having to purchase numberous incandescent bulbs. After all who keeps one light on 24/7? It is completely unrealistic.

Additionally, why hasn't it been mentioned that the bulbs light can be harmful? Some people including migrane sufferers cannot tolerate the CFL's. There are other health conditions which these bulbs can increase illness such as Brucella, Borellia (Lyme disease) and more.

  • Many lights are on 24/7. Casinos work all hours of they day, and they have many floors to light up.

CFL's are very modern; migraine victims were probably complaining about early fluorescent bulbs; the blue, humming variety.

Also, your statement about Lyme disease is very, very wrong. Lyme disease is an infections, bacterial disease, physically unable to be caught by a lightbulb.

    Please do your research

  • I didn't say that the bulbs CAUSED Lyme, they just increas the growth of the spirochetes. See Hughes research and Blue light increasing bacterial growth.

  • I use light bulbs for moisture reduction on my boat and raising baby chicks the Greenpeace dictated light bulbs do not meet my needs

  • What this video completely fails to mention is the toxic mercury and phosphors used in CFLs.

Break a CFL and one has a serious toxic pollution problem in the house, which requires specialist professional clean-up procedures. Break a conventional incandescent bulb and it's only broken glass.

Also it takes significantly more energy to make a CFL in the first place. Maybe as much energy as the CFL is supposed to be saving during it's lifetime.

The future is with solid-state LED lighting.

  • Guess what you still are using coal to heat and light your home. By changing your lights make no difference! The government is just taxing you for using a little more power. 15 Dollars is not much savings considering you spent it on one of those CFL's. I think for first year of CFL you Save a dime. The bulb has to last two years to just brake even on cost by then you replaced it two times. I reather use an earth friendly glass light no chemicals plus you look human and not sick in the light.

  • Yea right, 4 of the six (Chinese) bulbs I just purchased worked, What a rip off! And don't break one, there full of dangerous mercury! You'll hurt the enviroment................

  • but these new fancy light bulbs costs waay more than the old ones to mae...both enviromentslly and financially.

tech exists make almost free power .

look it up , google: telsa

    peace

  • Oh Ya.. I also still use my VCR.

  • I have CFL's in use, but they simply don't last as long as they are supposed to. For a "always on" light, they are fine.. For on and off.. forget it. I also had one CFL where the electronic ballast caught fire in the lamp, arced, and stunk up the place. The "bulb" did not bust, but talk about stinky soot.. Never had that with a regular bulb.

  • This video is totally retarded. CFL's don't work in the cold, are filled with toxic posion, cost more, can't be dimmed, and wear out faster when you turn them on and off. And you imbeciles think CFL's are "cool"? Yeah, 'bout as "cool" as a pet rock.

  • I have about 10 years worth of incandescent light bulbs in my garage. Hell no am I going to buy a CFL. Give me an LED light bulb at the same cost/brightness of a CFL and I'll toss my incandescent..

Light from CFL sucks, can't be on a dimmer, and warms up, plus contains mercury.

  • Dimmers suck ("warm up") and contain rapid-start transistor technology which is half responsible for the deaths of CFLs. I have a panel of switches that I can turn on CFL, dimmable incandescent or LEDs in my living room and kitchen.

  • There are other lovely results of the CFL bulbs.

Since they contain mercury, vapor fills the room upon breakage, so any broken light bulb will require a specialized EPA-moon-suit type cleanup costing thousands of dollars.

Of course, no one will do so, so when selling your house you will have to lie, thereby home sellers are felons.

Oh, and such bulbs WILL break when you dispose of them, so all landfills will be saturated with mercury too.

    So-called Environmentalists are toxic.

  • there is a new legislation in the UK coming soon that anyone selling over a certain amount of CFLs has to provide recycling facilities that can prevent mercury escaping into the atmosphere

  • Fascism begets more fascism.

That's the same sort of evolution that occurred in the regulations of the UPS industry. The batteries they contain are now so costly to replace that consumers merely throw the whole thing in the garbage and buy a new one.

So-called "environmentalists" have a rich history of creating vastly more damage to mother nature than the invented problems they use to market their toxic idiocies.

If they gave a rat's ass about nature, then they'd criminalize socialism.

  • Exactly Chewy427 Mercury is the reason CFLs are not that great. Mercury pollution = increase Autism and other mental handicaps. I prefer LEDs they last even longer than CFLs and they aren't a toxic hazard. I disagree with a law I think people should be educated and they will voluntarily choose LEDs over CFLs no one wants to increase the number of neurological defects in the world.

  • I've got no problem with you trying to promote these light bulbs, but when you hire the government to make me buy CFLs at gun point that's horseshit. I hope you speak as loudly against this sort of harassment, as you do when you're promoting these devices.

Also, can we quit pretending that CO2 is a pollutant? It's a necessary chemical for organic life.

  • 100% agree. best comment ive read today!

  • Just as long as you've got trees, C02 is fine. Problem is, the trees left aren't working any harder.

  • According to the EPA, we're suppose to treat our houses like environmentally hazardous sites if a CFL bulb breaks in the house and call the EPA, and that's not cool. So, why don't you and the EPA get together and decide if CFLs are dangerous or not before trying to con people into buying, dude.

  • Some CFLs emit a very poor quality of light and also have a crap tone of light, that is cold, also Dimmers cost around £12 plus here in the British Isles, and I have yet to see a dimmable relector CFL, also if you keep switching them on and off alot there life span is reduced to little more than an Incadescant, and considering they use 8 times the power in manufacture, is that energy saving dick head in the video? No

  • why NO closed captioned in here video

  • pay me, i'll put it in

  • great video

    global warming is BUNK though...

and yes, i am aware that i will get flamed for that. all you flamers, your cool. raging at someone on the internet. :D

  • "GW is BUNK", but risen (and still rising) sea levels and melting ice will exhaust a few theories before the causes are discovered.

  • yeah but notice that they dont say global warming anymore

they say global climate change... and as soon as they change the name you know its a load of crap

  • So as soon as a woman legally changes her last name at a wedding, suddenly we realize all of Judicial law, theology, and matrimony' are "a load of crap".

    Good call, Darwin.

  • yet a woman changing her name doesnt change a concept. global warming specifies an increase im climate temperature. climate change as a general concept can mean an increase, OR decrease in global temperature. so why is it exactly that it was global warming before, and it is now global climate change? also remember that in the 70's (correct me if im wrong about the year) scientists were saying there was going to be an ice age.

  • Despite what it says on your VW dash, The concept of CLIMATE is much more than just temperature change. Lighting, winds, precipitation levels, just aren't considered within the terminology "warming".

  • Beware the low cost brands sold at the dollar stores. Some bulbs sold there have quality issues. Stick to major name brands like GE, Philips, ect.

  • he didn't even mention the mercury in these cfl's ...

  • Thanks but I think I'll wait until they work out a few more of the kinks. I got 3 CFLs and they stopped working in about two months :\ Plus they cost a ton more and take about 5 minutes to get bright

  • Well good thing they did this video using pictures drawn on paper.

I do use CFLs though. Just not in my ceiling fan, because I never use that as a light. But my desk lamp, and my lamp with 3 bulbs use CFL. So much brighter!

  • Let me ask you this. The government forces heat and air compaines to remove old thermostats that contain mercury and dispose of them. Why then are they placing mercury containing light bulbs into our homes?

  • seems there is very little mercury in these bulbs. The amount of power used to power incandescent bulbs produces more mercury from our power plants, and puts that mercury into the air we breath. From what I have read on this, the amount of heavy metals in CFL can be wiped up with a paper towel with no ill effects. Besides, how often do we break a light bulb in the house anyway? I put these in the fixtures outside my garage 2 yrs ago and have not replaced them yet.

  • You will only have to break one light bulb. Just ask a parent how many times light bulbs can get broken during those childhood years. The first one exposed will be children. Parents are going to have to ensure that children do not have balls inside, pillow fights, and such. I am currently looking into the workers in China that have lost their lives manufacturing these light bulbs. I heard someone state that there already has been many deaths in China in these manufacturing plants.

  • Painternoil,

If this is so, then why no problems with the current florescent tubes. Many people have them in their laundry rooms, garage and sometimes in our kitchens. Not to mention all the florescent tubes people have had in both schools and office buildings. Traditional florescent tubes contain mercury and it has never been an issue.

I don't think these issues are credible. Have you ever heard of someone you know personally, being hurt by a florescent light?

  • Not Credible? Here is some proof just search the internet: "GE gets environmentalist brownie points for selling clean light bulbs, charge more for their bulbs. Saving on labor with fluorescents, they make the fluorescents in China. Not only are wages lower there, so are the regulatory burdens, both environmental and labor. The Times of London reported, Large numbers of Chinese workers have been poisoned by mercury, which forms part of the compact fluorescent lightbulbs.

  • Painter,

    Conveniently answering parts of questions.

Americans have been using florescent TUBES for decades. Why is there a problem now?

Both contain mercury. Also, if another country doesn't use proper environmental protocol, why is that our problem?

Sorry for the Chinese, but that is there decision to make.

  • Painter is right, a patent to produce more expensive light-bulbs where healthcare is but the concern of a British newspaper is genius.

  • Traditionally, open flourescent tubes are not stored in those locations. Which corporations, large or small, have protocol for any employee to change a burned out florescent? NONE! They end up breaking the tube, fixture... much more often than not.

  • An old thermostat has over 600 times as much mercury as a CFL bulb.

  • but the thermostat doesn't shatter everywhere like a cfl bulb does . then you have to clean up the shattered bulb most likelly using a vacuum cleaner which will turn the mercury beads into vapor for you and your kids to breath .... nice ...

  • That's a bunch of crap, high pressure sodium, metal halide, and old fashion tubes have had Mercury in them since the beginning of time.

None of you know anyone who has been personally hurt by the Mercury in these bulbs.

But now these CFL's have become a political lighting rod, so all the republicans have some reason to fear the light bulb.

I bet none of you people ever had a problem with the other types of lights use w/ Mercury in the until now.

Don't you have better things to do ?

  • well , when the fluorescent shop light came crashing down one day and i was dumb enough to vacuum up the mess , broken glass and mercury went everywhere ! to this day i have tingling in my fingertips and it's hard to understand people sometimes . i have mercury poisoning .

  • Stoner,

you Idiot. Go do another bong hit.

What makes you think you have Mercury poisoning? Mercury makes children retarded, is that your problem?

  • i'm smoking the finest weed ever right now ! but, no, no bong sorry ...

  • It has also been shown that conventional light bulbs cause more mercury emissions (because of their heigher power consumption) than the amount of mercury inside a typical CFL.

Recently, a company named "Megaman" has introduced CFLs that do not contain liquid mercury, but amalgam instead.

In contrast to light bulbs, CFLs can still go a long way.

  • CFL bulbs have been found to be a skin and scalp irritant to many and might cause sterilization through prolonged exposure to some people due to the radiation. that comes from them, the health risk is more so as the bulbs get old with use.

If so many will be due compensation from the manufacturers and their governments if they become susceptible to this enforced health hazard

  • hey guys, you're billed for energy, not power!!

  • record albums still sound better and they last longer too!

nothing worse than a scratched CD or DVD

bullshit digital sucks, you have bin had,LOL

    whats wrong with VHS,

  • Did you see the bmw commercial about responsibility though. Somehow they used this light bulb in it and compared it to being responsible. Responsible by poisoning the environment with mercury.

  • cfls have murcery in them

your suppose to call hazmat if you break it.

relax we cant kill this planet it is realestate we dont own we just live here

if we kill ourselves with nuke this planet will continue to live and eventualy thrive in our absence

if we want to eliminate co2 maybe we should plant trees to restore the inbalance we created

  • What about Halogen?

  • well lets see reasons not to ues one well it has mercury in it a heavy metal , in the cold they dont work and i mean at all it does a faint glow get a candle . now how about all the chips and wire and solder in them ?how to save some power if you ues nonfrosted blubs you can go to a smaller wattage and still have good light out put .

  • If I was crazy i could go into any store that sold those, open them and break them, i could then run out and wait as everyone evacuates and it cost about 6,000 dollars to fix a house with one broke lightbulb (and cant stay for 1-3 days) so if a Low's or Home depot got filled with 15 broken ones it would be closed for a nice amount of time (not to mention people would get killed/sick from me doing that) ANY ONE CATCHING MY POINT HERE!?!?!?!?!

  • very good vid and the effects.....thanks bro..

  • Another knucklehead that believes humans are going to "save" the Earth by altering the common citizens lifestyle, when mankind can't even feed the hungry or shelter the poor. What a joke! Amerikan4truth/The CAMP

  • Sorry, but LEDs are a much better way to go, and you don't have to worry about what to do with it after it's burned out.

Wake up, people, this is just another gimic to get your money. in no time they will say these cfl's aren't any good and switch to something else. Just like 8 tracks went to cassettes, and then to CD, and now digital chips in our mp3's and so on, when we could have went straight to the digital. the tech was there, but put off so big companies could get the profits first.

  • CFL is old technology. LED is better way to go but OLED is even better.

Philips just introduced the TRANSPARENT OLED Light. That means your entire transparent window can turn into a light bulb and use a lot less energy than LED (Light Emitting Diode).

  • just don't break them

  • How about all the health problems related to this bulb ?

  • The thing he neglected in this video is the lumen to power ratio. The average bulb is around 60 -100 watts and they produce fairly intense intense light. The fluorescent bulbs might use less, but their light intensity is usually less as well meaning the overall efficiency isn't much better. Even the efficient ones are usually a stale white color that feels unnatural. However, that being said, these usually do the trick if you can find one that matches your lumen output and is a decent color.

  • THis lightbulb is totally stupid.

  • Money saving doesn't always equal CO2 saving. What would you do with the 15$ saving per month? Some people might save it up to buy a cheap short haul flight. Or buy some crap they don't need, that has to be produced (with CO2 emissions) as well. Hence, money savings isn't always the same as CO2 saving.

I like the clip though and all my lights are energy efficient.

  • I actually hate CFL's. They aren't nearly bright enough and even though they say they'll last that long I've never had one last more than a month. Idk, maybe I'm just buying the wrong kind but if not CFL's just plain suck.

  • What about the Toxic Mercury???

  • the cfl is contaminant with mercury ,de best is diodes the LED,save energy and is clean

  • Plus the incadesent lights give out 90% heat and 10% light

  • nice to watch

  • FYI: It si a floresent light bulb...so that means it is NOT supose to be tossed in the garbage like old light bulbs! you are still polluting and putting thoes chems in the ground...nice ulternitve!

  • very cool and casual vid

  • if there is a earthquake or something else that make this lamps explode, this lamps are good reason to die... they can explode and kill you with the toxins,, and the other lamps only explode but there is always something around it to protect us. (im portuguese, sorry for errors..)

  • These bulbs have only dropped my electric bill by about $5 a month at the most. All of the lamps in my house use these CFLs. Only one in my garage uses an incandescent, and my meter works fine.

Even if these bulbs do save money, and pollution, the U.S. government has no right to shove them down our throats.

  • The old bulbs are recycled - the CFL are a toxic mess.

The CFL is a marketing scam to remove manufacturing from the US. No one in the US mfg's the mercury laden CFB bulbs- yet almost all the standard bulbs are made here.

  • Oh this is such a naive viewpoint... have you ever thought about the emf's of those so called harmless fluorescent globes? I have electromagnetic hypersensitivity and they make my life hell... Besides, coal power is filthy power, bring on solar and wind power....

  • Satire:

"What's that going to do for the coal industry? Less demand for power = less coal required = less jobs"

    [/satire]

Yes, under the same argument, you could also argue that peace is economically bad because it hurts the arms industry and jobs.

But what's this people keep saying about mercury content. That's not cool.

  • Here's the one thing about fluorescent:

It uses "Toxic" and "Non eco friendly" mercury and many other toxic goodies that can harm the envirement. And most people are too lazy to recycle them properly, so they throw them away in the trash, and the Fluorescent can do MUCH more harm to the envirement than C02 can ever do.Were Co2 based creatures.

  • Why didn't you tell about how these lights contain mercury? And about how they have to be taken to recycling centers for disposal.

  • Promoting propaganda is "not cool anymore" Lee. It's not so much what you are saying as so much what you are not saying. Do your research or leave your credibility open to question.

  • you do realize that power plants are much cleaner than you make them out to be, right? and if it weren't for enviromentalists and retards, we could build new nuclear power plants that are actually more refined and will make more electricity for lower costs, but cant because of the aforementioned retards

  • Comment removed

  • u realise that he is talking about COAL here, not nuclear? dont u?

  • there are only like, 2 power plants in the US ran by coal anymore, every single other one is run by nuclear energy

  • if thats true: nice i didnt know that

it appears the bigger problem is car exhausts :(

  • you do realize that the earth is coming out an ice age still and that pollution doesnt really do anything

  • sometimes i believe most of the comments here are made by chimps ranting so quickly so negative about everything they see.

  • the fourth point, 5 grams of gassious mercury per cfl

  • "the real problem is coal"

then we need to not use coal!

    wind and solar

    not these stuipd toxic bulbs

  • those new ones are toxic if one brakes then the bio hazard team needs to clean out Ur house

  • VHR's rock I own 10,000 vhs movies and all of them work. I have the simpsons first season and that lasted 5 years so vhs is better DVD's what a mistake!

  • up with vcr's!!!!!! i still use em' to this day!!!

  • This bulb sucks, for good reason the main reason why this bulb sucks is that if this bulb breaks that you're home must be cleaned by pros, Why because these new bulbs are filled with mercury and are harmful if broken. Also if these NEW BULBs are filled with mercury they are also bad to the ecosystem because murcury is a deadly chimical. If having to switch light bulbs to Mercury one's I will not portake in it and should the rest of the world and if anything we should ban NEW light bulbs!!!!!!!!!

  • The amount of mercury and led dumped into the atmosphere by the power plant needed make the multiple replacement bulbs and to keep the old style light bulbs burning far exceeds the amount that would be released by the occasional broken CFL bulb. You may have a right to your own opinion, but an opinion based on ignorance and misunderstanding is irrelevant.

  • No self-respecting (greedy) investor (whos only interest is making as much money as possible at any cost) is going to promote a product that once sold gives no more return (I.E. CFL bulbs) not when they could promote the old style light bulb that needs to be replaced constantly and requires 5 times the electricity, electricity that they get to sell you, increasing their profits significantly.

  • Sometimes a more advanced technology like the CFL bulbs do not get promoted by the existing industry because the old technology makes bigger profits, despite the fact that the new product would be much better for the consumer.

  • lol

  • the CFLs are made in china, theregular bulbs were made in kentucky, go figure....

  • OMG i should totally buy one of these, i will save $300 in 100 years. its totally brilliant. Why not switch to CFL's, well i pray i dont break one. i will probably die of mercury poisoning AND if i dont die, i will spend a half hour just picking up every little molecule of the lightbulb so i DONT die later

  • This is ridiculous. You need to read the policy on how to clean up if you break one.... Open the windows and have pets and all people leave the room for at least 15 minutes. Do not use a vacuum! These contain mercury! Haven't we phased out mercury thermometers for this reason? Do you think if a kid breaks one when the parent isn't home, they are going to follow this policy??

These light bulbs are health risks and double the EMF as regular lightbulbs. Oh,and All of them are made in China!

  • Your propaganda sounds like old style light bulb manufactures and electricity producers walking hand in hand helping to bolster each others profits.

So tell me is your salary coming from an old light bulb manufacture or an electricity producer? Or (God forbid) you are just one of their many stooges, following along like a good little lamb.

  • Mercury is not cool fool.

  • Total cost benefit analysis shows these bulbs to be WORSE than incandescents &this is another cart before the horse mindset. Shift to decentralized interconnected power grid using smaller GEOTHERMAL &natural gas plants would solve problems of even needing Nuke &coal plants. These bulbs really cannot compare to LED tech, when the cost comes down these will be more than just obsolete but need to be outlawed! Dangerous & hard to recycle, hard to manufacture & how much pollution from that factory?

  • Comment removed

  • Welcome to Socialism!

Liberals mean well but are ineffective, non productive and restrictive to say the least!

I want my freedom back, to make my own choices and to stop being protected from myself...sick

  • jkiene, check out the Campaign for Liberty, it's time for a change! All the new organic and green products in the last few years have been wonderful addition to help our environment and they are here because the market has demanded it, why does the government have to push greener chinese light bulbs if the market shows we are making a shift to be more green? Maybe to help the American loan officer, China. Haha, we'll force our people to buy your mercury bulbs if you keep buying t-bills.

  • VCR rules :O its epic but thats not the point here... really i have all my lighting coming from CFL lamps

  • Jebu911, did you read my comment? Does this not conern you? And you know if one of those break there will be mercury on your floor and the EPA has 15 step process to clean it up.

  • That's why we need nuclear plants!!! Other countries are even recycling the nuclear waste into power with little left over. That would solve this coal problem... don't you think?????

  • relyingonhim, Nucler waste is not being recycled by other countries. We pay poor countries in Africa to store our waste, it's different. I don't think there is one answer to our problem, but these light bulbs are a step in the wrong direction for America. Letting the Chinese special interest knock out the American competition by passing a law to make these the only bulb available after 2014. Wake up!

  • Why don't they tell you that the CFLs are made in China and normal light bulbs are made in Kentucky? Look on your box of light bulbs! So not only will the CFL hurt the demand of our USA made light bulbs, the tankers from China they ship them on burn a huge amount of oil. They don't tell you those CFLs have mercury in them and the EPA has a 15 step process to clean up the light bulb if it breaks! Check the EPA website. Wake up people! This is big money special interest at work!

  • Isn't it on the packaging that mercury is in the CFL?

  • shocellist, check the EPA website. It's so funny that we are supposed to use these chinese bulbs with mercury in it. Remember when you dispose of the bulb to take it to the proper disposal center so we don't end up with too much mercury in our landfills!

  • 100% of the production of these energy saving bulbs are made exclusively in China, who uses primarily coal as their energy source. So, the production of these bulbs produce an eminence amount of coal production. Not to mention the mercury within these energy saving bulbs and the harm they will do to the environment in landfills, (once a year...unless glass breaks easily.)

  • whats next lowering how much water we use when we do laundrey

  • The anti government stuff is over with, its time to start making this planet a better place for all of us.

  • It's "not cool"? IT'S NOT COOL? What are you, 13?

I generally try not to pollute much (but don't really give a sh*t either way), but since you say it's "not cool" I''m going to burn a tire just for your sake.

  • What's next. We will be told what car to drive , how far we can drive and what size we can drive. Sick

  • EXACTLY!!!!

Now that our lovely government owns GM, they're shutting down most of our auto producing plants for a couple of months. You know they're re-tooling them to make the cars that our government wants us to drive. Mark my words here. If we don't put a stop to this nonsense, we will all be driving government approved cars by the year 2014 & we'll be a part of the smart grid & then our government will have control over our thermostats. You know, they've gotta keep us in line!

  • i still use VCR's =(

  • 1:57 pacman lol

  • CFL's Yayy

  • for far less mercury pollution in the long run. A coal-burning power plant will emit four times more mercury to produce the electricity for an incandescent bulb than for a compact fluorescent.

  • Ironically, compact fluorescent bulbs are responsible for less mercury contamination than the incandescent bulbs they replaced, even though incandescents dont contain any mercury. The highest source of mercury in Americas air and water results from the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, at utilities that supply electricity. Since a compact fluorescent bulb uses 75 percent less energy than an incandescent bulb, and lasts at least six times longer, it is responsible

  • Two thumbs up!! Great comment, most people rarely consider the big picture, but you are one of the few that get it. I might add that the power system is only about 25% effecient relative to the number of btu/hr produced by burning coal, a lot of energy is lost as heat before it even gets into the form of electricity, the transmission system looses about 7% of the electricity as heat in the resistance of the lines.

  • Florecent light bulbs have a horrible light wave emission. I can't stand them and won't use them. I am purchasing hundreds of Incandecent bulbs so I can have a long lasting supply of better light!

  • What do you mean by "florecent ligh bulbs have a horrible light wave emission?"

  • Florecent bulbs do not produce a natural light color. in Fact Floresent lights give my wife headaches and is irritating to the eye...They are well known to cause health problems such as migraines...

  • The government passed a law in 2007 that will get rid of incandescent light bulbs by 2012. I suggest you buy LED light bulbs. They're light is natural, and only use VERY little energy, even less then flouresent bulbs. 9 wasts for an LED light bulb is the equivilant of a 60 wat incandescent. They're quite expensive at first, but pay for themselves in no time

  • Getting rid of the Edison bulb...unbelieveable. I will only use LED's if they produce the type of light I want. If not, I will stock plie one thousand Edison bulbs if nessesary. jUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF GOVERNMENT INTRUDING INTO OUR LIVES. I also can't roll down my freaking back door car window because I'm being protected from myself...My kids can't play on Monkey bars and slides at the play ground...why? Liberalism...

  • Amen! You liberals are brownshirts plain and simple.

  • It's not about saving energy and environmental pollution. It's about having the Federal Government to regulate how much energy we can use, and how much water we can flush. All of this CFL and energy saving is a bunch of Liberal's Democratic Congress ideas of passing such a ban on the incandescent light bulbs for nothing.

  • Don't know about headaches, but all the florescent stuff does emit ugly irritating light.

  • CO2 is not pollution !!!!

  • Wrong! CO2 is a pollutant, it's not nearly as toxic as many others but it still absorbs a lot of energy from sunlight thus heating up the atmosphere thus making it a "greenhouse gass".

  • so, you are polluting air with your single breath!

please, think before you say anything about things you dont know about

BTW: without CO2 plant cant live!

  • CFL's,,,, contain mercury, not much, but when you get a few hundred thousand in the landfill it is considered a toxic waste dump. They are made in China---- ONLY in china. Call your local city government and ask them where you are supposed to drop them off, tell them they are toxic waste and need proper disposal. See what kind of answer you get.

  • go buy a bunch of them and bust them in the storm drains and in the street to protest the incadesent light bulb ban that nancy pelosi and harry reed got bush to sign into law. whats next ? how big a stereo or tv you can own? if you got lots of electric car stuff your engine has to make more torque to spin the alternator therefore burning more fuel ! how about the gov limiting the amount of watts you will be allowed to use every 24 hours ! the incadesent bulb ban is just the start ! WAKE-UP !!!!!

  • The difference that makes CFL's more efficient than regular lightbulbs is the fact that CFL's do not produce as much heat than normal lightbulbs, since they do not rely on heat to produce a glowing effect. This makes CFL's save money if your air conditioner is on, because a CFL does not produce waste heat. This heat generated is not wasted in cold climates, however, because it is heat that would be otherwise generated from the heater. So, CFL's only save energy in hot climates where the AC is on

  • CFL's also save money in cold climates because the heat normal bulbs produce also takes electricity, and is less effective than heating systems to keep homes warm

  • yea, they are a total rip off, goverment forcing us to use toxic substances. What about children when they break, you hear what you have to do when they break, you can't just toss them in the trash, it's extremely toxic, Why are we being forced to use something that dangerous, come up with something safer of get lost....it is sick to put this stuff in your home...

  • FFs! This is complete bollocks.

Stop filling youtube with this kind of crap. CFLs are more harmful than incandesent bulbs.

Stop telling me that lightbulbs wear out quicker - they don't. I've had 2 CFLs pop in a year; they're supposed to last 5 years.

Also, lightbulbs produce HEAT as well as light. If I don't use them, I'll have to generate the heat another way.

The real key to success is fusion. Until it's ready, we need fission.

  • I have CFL's in every light at my house. Not for lower energy cost or helping the environment or anything, I just hate changing light bulbs all the time. I've only had to change 1 bulb in like 2 years now too. I highly recommend them. I'm still leaving my lights on tonite for "earth hour" and I'm pretty sure I just threw my 1 CFL bulb that blew out in the garbage so you don't have to be a tree hugger to appreciate these bulbs ^.~

  • good luck properly disposing of that CFL it is loaded with mercury, i won't go near one of them bulbs until they make me.

  • dont cfl's have mercury in them..and thus worse polluters when you throw them away?

  • they do have mercury in them so it will be a little harder to dispose of them BUT!

you can go to an ikea or your local recycling place ( where hobos trade cans for money)

they will take them for free and properly dispose of them.

  • i have not switched because cfls are in efficient pieces of shit the ballast go out long before the bulb and led are years away shit video

  • so, LEDs last 60,000 hrs. You can also dim them.

  • LEDs are very weak though, they probably will be the next big thing after CFLs.

  • and you wasted a load of trees making this video.
