this song is still cool....nothing like music these days....these songs bring back the memories of good times...music these days represent something much different....
this is a song that was rejected initially by the djs when the promo discs came out... until MTV aired it, and folks loved the video... this is one of those rare songs that the VIDEO totally saved and turned this loser into a huge hit. The band tried to follow up on it's success, but never could! The sequel to this just blew rat balls!
Nostalgia :-) I just loved the 80's; the music, the movies, the clothes, the hairdues... Great (as in funny) song and video, that puts a smile on your face :-)
Okay, I know it's called the Safety Dance...but it sounds like he is saying "It's safe to dance!" kind of like he is saying be yourself, it's okay. What an inspirational song. xDD
If the Safety dance is jumping about with your hands flailing above your head, as shown in the video, then it doesn't seem so safe to me. The chance of someone taking an elbow to the head seems rather great. I think the safety dance should somehow involve fluffy pillows. Those are pretty safe.
So weird... Best 80's song with the worst 80's video

Why do you junkies always have to make a song "about drugs"?
Its about a style of dance the lead singer was banned from a clubhouse for.

Can't believe this song is 25 years old. Loved the video and still love the song! Both were big in 1983-probably the best year for '80's music.

I wasn't talking about the dancing. I was talking a bout the studded belt he had on. Also everyone had pure white teeth. Not that it matters though.

I think the safety dance was a creative way to say feel free to dance even though you can't cause neither can we! LOL
But aside from that I've always loved the song growing up thanks for sharing! :)
